Your draft

edit

Hi! I just went through your draft, and rearranged it. But for it to be accepted by a reviewer, you need to cite reliable sources. You may find WP:RS, WP:REFB and WP:YFA useful. Please go through them and work on your draft accordingly. Thanks, Knightrises10 (talk) 17:33, 17 September 2018 (UTC) Hello Knightrises10, and thank you very much. I have included all the citations from credible sources ? all the links are included.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Carolcappetta (talkcontribs) Knightrises10 (talk) 17:50, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

As far as I can say, the sources you provided are not reliable. But don't worry. Even I messed up with my first draft. You may search about that topic at Google News, where you may get reliable sources. Knightrises10 (talk) 17:50, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

some of my sources are from wikipedia ? i think i got the <ref> right ? boy this is really hard lol I thank you so much for your help !!! All the sources i added is all i have, album reviews, playing with a few famous artists where my name is mentioned, thats all i have.

I still remember I had the same problem at start. I read WP:REFB multiple times, and was helped from some very good users. So don't worry. You will soon learn it. Take your time. You can even take weeks, or even months in getting the draft completed. As for Wikipedia, it is not advisable to cite it, as it is not considered a reliable source. As told before, you can read about reliable sources here. If you need any help, leave me a message at my talk page, as I am not notified when you leave a message here. Not an improvement

edit

Stuff like the following is your content, not factual statements based on citations. I suggest you look at biographies of other musicians. David notMD (talk) 19:55, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Building on his early success and studio work, Derek next set out to compose and produce. The results of Derek's inspiration and perspiration is his first album. Derek played all the instruments and also recorded and engineered every track. This self titled CD, "Derek Reese", is a truly a labor of love."

Hi, I noticed that you used Wikipedia as a source for your article in your draft. Please note that Wikipedia itself can't be used as a source in a Wikipedia Article.Thank You. Thegooduser Let's Chat 🍁 00:53, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

Hi, Carolcappetta! I saw your questions at the Teahouse and thought I'd make a comment.

I hope you like Wikipedia and decide to stay, it's a very special place.

Now, about your draft. There's no doubt that "your" Derek Reese exists and makes music, as opposed to Derek Reese who doesn't exist but currently hogs the name on WP anyway.

But on WP, existing isn't enough for having an article, "we" demand more.

Please look at the general rule here:WP:GNG and the musician-specific rule here: WP:MUSICBIO. They basically say the same thing in different ways.

Per what I see in your draft and when I google, there is not enough about Derek Reese in what is considered reliable sources on WP to make an acceptable WP-article. Things can change (Wikipedia:Too soon), but that's how it seems to me. I may be wrong.

So, my advice is too choose another topic you like for now. There are many existing articles that need improvements, big and small, creating new articles is far from the only way to be a Wikipedian.

Good luck and happy editing! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:54, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

You might also wish to consult Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. This is a list of sources which are (and are not) considered reliable for music-related topics. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:50, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I apologize, i didn't mean to create a thread, i just wanted to post a question, i am still very new to all of this, so sorry Carolcappetta (talk) 19:29, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Carolcappetta. This is just a general notification added by a WP:BOT which lets editors know that the Teahouse discussion/question (aka “thread”) they started/asked has been moved from the main page to an archived page. WP:Archive is a way for free up space on the page to make it easier to navigate; basically, it’s just moving no longer active posts to another page for record keeping purposes. You did nothing wrong. The notification is just added because the Teahouse typically attracts new editors who might not be aware that older posts are archived. They may ask a question, and go back to check on it to find out that it’s gone. The bot is just telling them where to look to find it. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:53, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Incredible shrinking draft

edit

C- I hope you are not offended by the cuts to the draft. Editors (me, others) are trying to help you by removing content that is unsupported by refs or not neutral in tone or not relevant. Not sure yet if this leaves the article with enough proof of notability. Good luck. David notMD (talk) 21:16, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am so very appreciative David :-)
You are trimming the fat so to speak and I thank you !
Carolcappetta (talk) 21:20, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello David, i think i have taken this draft as far as it can go.
There are three citations needed on my draft that i can not find on the internet other than youtube and photos that Derek himself have put up on his google plus accounts and his website.
His first record was independantly released in 1982, with nothing on the web,
all the live shows Reese played have not been advertised, other than flyers, and the performance at Whiney Houstons birthday party, where Reese played guitar is no where to be found ?
Its a shame because Reese has done a lot, even played next to famous people, but there is not enough notability.
Carolcappetta (talk) 17:25, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sources don’t necessarily need to be online, they just need to be reliable, and published. The words “reliable” and “published” have a special meaning with respect to Wikipedia which might be different from what you’re used to. Online sources just make verification easier. However, any source you want to reference needs to have provided significant coverage of Reese to be useful in establishing his Wikipedia notability. Moreover, being associated with lots of Wikipedia notable people/things (i.e., subjects with Wikipedia articles written about them) does not make someone or something also Wikipedia notable as explained in WP:INHERIT; so, the more significant coverage in reliable sources you can find about Reese, the better. Secondary and independent sources are much better than self-published or otherwise user-generated sources. Look for sources which would be expected to have a fairly strong reputation for editorial control like major newspapers or magazines, or books published by reputable publishing companies. Strictly local papers, periodicals, etc. may be OK to a degree for verifying certain article content, but regional and national publications are much better for establishing Wikipedia notability. — Marchjuly (talk) 23:23, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes Reese was released on an independent label called Ace Records, but i cant find any info on it as it was in 1982 or 83.
The Stop magazine was a local free paper, so I'm sure thats not going to hold enough water lol.
Thank you,
Carolcappetta (talk) 23:41, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
If it’s this Ace Records (United States), then maybe someone at WT:ALBUM or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Record Labels can help. — Marchjuly (talk) 00:07, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately it isn't. But i will look at the other links you have provided,Thank you. Carolcappetta (talk) 00:22, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
