DYK for Winifred Tumim

On 22 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Winifred Tumim, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the administrator Winifred Tumim called the state of management where charity trustees had no knowledge of their legal and professional obligations "mad chair disease"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Winifred Tumim. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Winifred Tumim), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Copying within Wikipedia

Please remember to identify the source of the material in your edit when copying within Wikipedia.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. For future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, adding a link to the source and the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.S Philbrick(Talk) 23:17, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Justin Wilson

As you undid the edits I made on the Justin Wilson page, I assume that you created it?

I was going to contact you yesterday, but Wikipedia’s ‘’forgotten password’’ function seems to be broken so I was unable to log in.

My intention was to correct a few details on your labour of love, and not to damage it.

I have been reporting motor racing since 1990.

Justin’s best friend was Stuart Moseley who he met through karting. We knew Stuart since he was a baby, and Stuart introduced us to Justin at Donington Park in summer 1994.

If you go on Facebook to https://www.facebook.com/stuart.moseley you will see a post for Justin’s birthday.

Scroll down until you find my comment:
Bold textJonathan N PalmerBold text To think that shy 16 year-old was 26 years ago. Life is emptier without your towering presence. Happy Birthday.

Below, in my rather long reply to Autosport/Motorsport News reporter, Peter Scherer, you will see that it is ‘Liked’ by 3 people: one of them is Lynne Wilson, Justin’s Mum. If there were any inaccuracies in my story then she would have commented and corrected them.

Scroll down through the history and you will see previous comments in past anniversaries of Justin’s birth and death I have made comments, to which Stuart has ‘Liked’.

Possibly no one has written more about Justin’s early career than I have. His first two sponsors when he was at PSR – Nobo and Talking Shop – I procured for him.

When he raced in FPA, I negotiated him free internet access with the company Force9, now known as Plusnet.

I know a lot about Justin that I will never make public, but there are things he would not have minded me telling the world, or correcting (the same applies to Lewis Hamilton from his time with Manor Motorsport).

The corrections I made were in the latter category.

Woodall is in Rotherham. The Rotherham/Sheffield boundary is the vertically-running M1, Rotherham being on the east side. Top Farm House, Walseker Lane, Woodhall is to the east, in Rotherham, not Sheffield. Lynne and Keith have since moved house.

The A1 runs close to Worksop.

Justin broke his ankles in a Formula First accident at Brands Hatch – brake failure. He made numerous trips to the broken ankle laser treatment guru in Norwich in the pre-season to speed the recovery, eventually he had an operation in the winter of 1995 to remove the metal plates from his feet.

Dan Weldon and Justin raced together in FVJ and both were MABYDA finalists in 1995 – if you have the correct Autosport issue from that year there is a photo of them at the Silverstone shoot-out walking 6-abreast with the other contestants.

Justin was immensely proud to have held-off Webber for every lap of the A1 Ring F3000 race – I can send you a scan of our report of that race if you want?

Oh, one final thing. We started supplying motor racing reports in 1990 because we were fed-up with the South Yorkshire area’s motor racing talent not getting the coverage it deserved, and the 6 local football, speedway, ice hockey and rugby teams filling the sports pages instead.

Reference 6 (used as a citation for Keith’s career-ending accident) was an insult to Justin, being written by two people who knew nothing about him. Otherwise they would have known not to mention football; he did not care nor was interested in any other sporting activity. His life involved having a steering wheel in his hands, whether on a racing car or a computer game.

The article was written by two men from Northampton, who had attended the test day and spoken to every UK F3000 driver, writing rubbish about each one, that they submitted to each driver’s local paper, and then used the resultant cuttings to get access to the Grand Prix. The ball-sport blinded sports department published it, without bothering to consult us as to its validity, together with a huge blurred photo that was not even of Justin, but of teammate Tomas Enge instead!

Can you do Justin some justice and remove that citation please?

Fangio/Korean War

Hi MWright96. An editor recently changed the following paragraph in Juan Manuel Fangio:

"In the early 1950s, Fangio was involved in a road accident when he was forced to swerve to avoid an oncoming truck. The car, a Lancia Aurelia GT clipped a pole, spinning twice and threw Fangio out, which led him to sustain grazed elbows. One passenger stated the incident was the first time Fangio had been so terrified since the Korean War."

i.e. removing the reference to the Korean War, on the basis that they believed Fangio had not participated in the Korean War. (I tend to concur; the references I found suggested that Fangio did his military service during World War II). It appears that you originally added the statement, so I was wondering if you could confirm whether or not the reference does indeed say "Korean War". Thanks. No worries. I thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 09:34, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Cite Unseen update

Hello! Thank you for using Cite Unseen. The script recently received a significant update, detailed below.

  • You can now toggle which icons you do or don't want to see. See the configuration section for details. All icons are enabled by default except for the new   generally reliable icon (described below).
  • New categorizations/icons:
    •   Advocacy: Organizations that are engaged in advocacy (anything from political to civil rights to lobbying). Note that an advocacy group can be reliable; this indicator simply serves to note when a source's primary purpose is to advocate for certain positions or policies, which is important to keep in mind when consuming a source.
    •   Editable: Sites that are editable by the public, such as wikis (Wikipedia, Fandom) or some databases (IMDb, Discogs).
    •   Predatory journals: These sites charge publication fees to authors without checking articles for quality and legitimacy.
    • Perennial source categories: Cite Unseen will mark sources as   generally reliable,   marginally reliable,   generally unreliable,   deprecated, and   blacklisted. This is based on Wikipedia's perennial sources list, which reflects community consensus on frequently discussed sources. Sources that have multiple categorizations are marked as   varied reliability. Note that   generally reliable icons are disabled by default to reduce clutter, but you can enable them through your custom config. A special thanks to Newslinger, whose new Sourceror API provides the perennial sources list in a clean, structured format.
  • With the addition of the new categorizations, the   biased source icon has been removed. This category was very broad, and repetitive to the new advocacy and perennial sources categorizations that are more informative.

If you have any feedback, requested features, or domains to add/remove, don't hesitate to bring it up on the script's talk page. Thank you! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:10, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
