You may also want to take the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia.
Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome!
- Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.
- What can I do now?
If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 18:17, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Catchsinger (block log • active blocks • global blocks • autoblocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

You obviously have a WP:Conflict of interest regarding the Catch (music) article. Do you understand what does that mean? Our WP:COI policy is clear: COI editing is strongly discouraged
. Even if we unblock you, you would not be allowed to directly edit any article with which you have a COI, including Catch (music). You would be able to propose changes using the WP:requested edit process, but not to make edits yourself. You would also not be allowed to create articles on "minor composers". Since they are "minor", they are probably not WP:NOTABLE, and since you have a COI, you can only propose article creation using the WP:AFC process, but not directly create it. Are you aware of all of this? Do you still want to be unblocked after you have learned this? Vanjagenije (talk) 19:54, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Regards COI
editI think I had expressed this badly. I do not personally have a conflict of interest, but had managed to create one in the article in question by quoting material I had written without taking adequate precautions over checking.
The user name CatchClub is one that my wife invented years before I thought of editing in Wikipedia and has an associated password which is easy for us to remember for historical reasons. My email address is one of several that I use, all @ashworth.demon.co.uk because as an early subscriber to Demon I have in effect a complete domain, and it helps to filter incoming emails to suitable folders; some include other interests (croquet for example) but most are based on personal names. Much of this problem arises from having sung catches in an amateur club (group of friends really) for over 40 years, which might indicate that I am well past the age of being interested in commercial possibilities. It may be that you would consider my proposed alternative name as too close to CatchClub, in which case I will find another.
As regards what I have called minor composers, your response implies that Wikipedia's coverage is complete and not to be added to, which I am sure you did not mean. One or two were well known in their own field but also wrote catches and glees as amateurs; some of them are mentioned in the Catch article, which is clear because there are no links; I would like to create short articles to enable such links.
So, yes please, I really would like to be able to continue to edit and will take much more care in future to avoid over-enthusiasm. I would like to place my knowledge and skills, such as they are, at Wikipedia's service. CatchClub 10:22, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- I unblocked your account. You should request username change as soon as possible, as explained above (green box). Your username (CatchClub) together with your edits (example) suggest that you have a COI regarding certain Catch club(s). You've been a member of Wikipedia for more than a year, and the only article you've been editing is Catch (music), mostly writing about Catch clubs. When we say "promotion", that does not necessarily mean "advertising" or commercial promotion. Many people want to use Wikipedia to promote their non-commercial causes, which is not allowed (see: WP:NOBLECAUSE). So, you are free to write about catch music, but you should avoid writing about Catch clubs with which you are personally connected. As about your comment regarding composers, I never said that "Wikipedia's coverage is complete and not to be added to". What I said is that Wikipedia has certain inclusion criteria called WP:NOTABILITY. Wikipedia only accepts articles about subjects that are notable according to that criteria, and notability is proved by citing several reliable independent sources with significant coverage of the subject.
