I understand but I think you left out somethings that should of been retained including the experimental and prototypes. I'd also like to keep the IP editor onboard if possible; avoiding an edit war (they are quite determined) and alienation. Of course, we can also go back to your edit and build upon it. Our project

Hi, Cavalryman - hope you've been getting plenty of sleep!! Well...the dog project has been quite an undertaking - I may change my user name to Morticia. I can only imagine what Doc James and the Project Med team are faced with day-to-day considering all the home-health cures, snake oil treatments, and quacks they have to deal with - and that involves human health!! Yikes! There actually are parallels between the two, particularly as it relates to RS and fictitious dog breeds - quacks selling snake oil vs puppy mill breeders selling fake breeds - it all boils down to crooks and the almighty $$. Anyway...I'm going to request a DRV for the Catahoula bulldog close. I thought consensus to redirect/nmerge/delete was blindingly obvious based on the failure to establish GNG and V. Atsme, thank you very much. It is frustrating, I too think a review of the Catahoula bulldog decision is warranted. Otherwise I was thinking of reducing the article to a one or two paragraph stub, removing from all navboxes and only linking it from American Bulldog, Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog and List of dog crossbreeds.

Crickey - an east coast boy, and probably ex-2 Cav as well!

2017 was a champagne year for me on Wikipedia. Three Canis FAs and I also managed to fit in an attempt to reboot WikiProject Dogs, in vain. The issues then are the issues now, which is why I exhibit little interest. The editor behaviour among the dog-pack drove me further towards the wolf-pack, where I run with a strong pack and where fools are dealt with most brutally. I recall when one of my ally's got so upset with the state of the lede in the Dog article he trotted over there and just tore it to shreds, leaving the dog editors in shock for a couple of weeks - it still largely reads as he wrote it over 2 years ago. This is what you folk need to get this undertaking going- to be courageous, hard, fierce, and work as a pack. In the meantime, we wolves watch, and we wait....... Well, I'm not particularly active in dog articles, but for what it's worth I'm certainly prepared to offer my 2p on the reliability of sources (on which I have fairly exacting personal standards). I did notice a list of sources posted at ANI that looked like an excellent beginning for a list of references that should not be used. It's music to my ears! And it's not only the quality of sources, but we also have context issues. For example, I deleted material from Catahoula Bulldogs that was cited to a RS but the material on pg 174 was irrelevant to the article, was nothing more than the name "Catahoula Bulldog" in a list of breeds that the author claimed are either revivals or breeds in development (published 2005) and they quoted some unknown breeder who said "I do not sanction the AKC" - ha!! Of course not - the AKC refused their undocumented/poorly documented, unverifiable breed. The author used terms like "raft of niche bulldogs currently in development" and "attempts to revive defunct breeds, others the creations of stylin' breeders". WP is not the place to help them revive or promote their unrecognized, "defunct" or "stylin' breeds" that few have even heard about. I find it remarkable how some editors will go to great lengths to make something work - reminds me of a bad farrier putting a small cold shoe on a horse that has a much bigger hoof, so they whittle down the hoof to fit the shoe, not realizing the damage they're doing to the hoof wall and frog. Ridiculous. Bottomline - the sources must establish N first, not the other way around, as in I've written an OR article now find the RS to fit it. Above all, dates matter, context matters, and with all marketing ploys and scams running rampant on today's internet, CIR and due diligence are required. ^Atsme _Talk 📧 16:16, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

William Harris, yes Victorian and formerly of 2 Cav. I now believe WikProject Dogs should have adopted the full expansion proposal back then, some of that pack brutality would be most welcome in the domestic dog article space.

Justlettersandnumbers, reliability of sources is (in my opinion) one of the greatest challenges here as a number non-notable articles rely solely on self published works or “breed” fancier websites. Strict adherence to RS would solve many our problems.

I think the only firearm or ammunition articles I have written since last we spoke are 6.5×57mm Mauser, Swinburn–Henry and a long overdue rewrite of the .577/450 Martini–Henry, whilst I have written a couple of articles on some famous elephant hunters, P. C. "Pete" Pearson and R. J. D. "Samaki" Salmon. In the last few months I have been quite busy so not as active writing, just making minor edits. Cockapoo

Hi, CM - I'm pretty sure Cockapoo is notable - it has a dictionary entry - and it's really popular. My suggestion is to withdraw that one. I'm also wondering if maybe we could tie all the non-notable articles into one discussion and knock 'em all out in one felled sweep? I've done that on a few non-notable stubs that a single author created on a variety of topics but not sure if it would work for dogs. Atsme, that link & the NYT article both really only say this is a cross between a cocker & a poodle, and that was the only attributable information about them that I could find. I feel that's short of an article. The cross is mentioned at List of dog crossbreeds, if it felt this one should be a redirect I won't be unhappy, the next task will be to cite the latter page and remove all unattributable entries. Using the List of dog fatalities in the US as an example, there will always be some articles that people want to defend, whatever their motivation for doing so. Getting bogged down in these battles depletes our energies that could be directed elsewhere. This being the case, I prefer our current "guerrilla warfare" approach of hit-and-run on a number of fronts, at a time of our choosing. Cavalryman is conducting one of the biggest sweep-outs I have seen with Dogs, we lose one and gain 5, and I think the current approach is working well. It will be a long, tedious struggle - we will not get all that we want, but we will get most of them. The failures can wait for another time. William Harristalk 03:42, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Be aware that many of these articles were started as a monument to somebody's dog that has passed away, with photos taken of that dog and placed in the articles. It was my initial suggestion and I apologize for the repercussions. I have participated in a couple of AfDs that lumped together 4 or 5 at once - one I remember in particular was initiated by an admin, and involved 4 or 5 BLPs of young female athletes that competed successfully nationally/internationally and placed in the Youth Olympics. Hi! Unfortunately I missed your notification of this at WT:DOGS. The breed is apparently notable, though in danger of extinction. See Miguel Fernández Rodríguez, Mariano Gómez Fernández, Juan Vicente Delgado Bermejo, Silvia Adán Belmonte, Miguel Jiménez Cabras (eds.) (2009). Guía de campo de las razas autóctonas españolas (in Spanish). Madrid: Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino. ISBN 9788449109461, pages 566–568. That's more or less the same as the content here, but published at national ministry level. Unfortunately the article was a pretty direct translation of it, so probably a copyright violation. What I've found that may prove helpful as to whether we delete, merge or ?? From the seventies, with the introduction of foreign races, it was very mixed and practically absorbed by the German Pointers and Bracos, which caused the decline and the practical disappearance of this breed. Very nice work, Cavalryman, and much more complete than what I would have done if I'd ever got round to it. I suggest moving it to mainspace (or I will if you like?). NB the section title here is mis-spelt – breed name is Perdigueiro Galego with two "i"s as in your draft, don't ask me why it's different from the Perdiguero de Burgos. Atsme, I hope it's not unreasonable to assume that if the Xunta of Galicia approved a breed club and a breed standard in 2001, there must have been at least a few of the dogs around to justify the work involved.
