League of Copyeditors participation drive!
editDear League member,
We've started a participation drive for the remainder of February. If you can, please help clear the backlog by adopting the following goals each week:
- Select an article to copy-edit from the backlog. After your copy-edit, list the article in the articles ready for final proofread section.
- Select a different article to proofread from the articles ready for final proofread section.
Thanks for your help! Rintrah 16:04, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank You for helping me out with the article. Although, there is a problem. Most of the information I obtain (well, pertaining to games) is usually found in my Game Informers. So citing references might be a little harder. :^) §†SupaSoldier†§ 00:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- WoW, that's awesome...glad to be workin' with ya! :^) §†SupaSoldier†§ 04:47, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Your question on my talk (please respond there)
editWhen somebody uses a more obvious issue to liken it to the issue at hand, it serves only to create an emotional charge. They distract the emotions of people in the discussion. This creates a situation where the opposing side now either has to recant their statement or suffer being judged as also opposing the unrelated more-controversial issue. It is highly unlikely that somebody would be black, deny being black, and be asked constantly by media if they were black. People are not rhumored to be black. The issue is more, so to speak, black and white. By playing the race card, as the person did, (they state it themselves here: [1]) they caused a disruption of the AfD debate, which is inapppropriate. If you and I were at a town hall meeting to discuss whether or not there should be a stop light at a prominent intersection in town, and after a while of debating it, I stood up and said "First a stop light, what next? They might as well brand us and put us into a concentration camp." This would be a similar example in my mind. The comment did not provide commentary on the issue of the debate.... whether or not the articles listed met wikipedia standards. I hope this helps you understand what I meant in my statement. Jerry lavoie 12:38, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- NO. You are WAY off base. I am saying that the racial issue is one that does not include people persecuted because of rhumors and suspicion. Everybody knows who is black and who isn't. The issues are so very different that raising the other during a discussion of the one serves no relevant purpose for that discussion. And since the racial issue is so charged with emotion and controversy, bringing it up stris up those aspects of a discussion which oherwise was going fine on an evaluation of the points pertinent to the isue at hand. I do not wish to have an ongoing discussion with you about this.... if we need to agree to disagree, then that is fine with me. As for changing ones mind.... I don;t know how much clearer I could have been about changiong my mind.... re-read the AfD.... I tried to get it closed as keep, and it was my nom. I am wondering if this whole discussion we are having is just wikiharassment? At any rate it is not something I wish to continue. Jerry lavoie 23:03, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Sheerness article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. Thank you very much, if you can. Epbr123 17:45, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

League of Copyeditors roll call | |
Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there. The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors. |
WikiProject C-SPAN?
editGreetings fellow Wikipedia editor -
I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.
If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?
The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):
- Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
- Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
- Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
- Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
- What else?
I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...
...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.
Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.
Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.
