Welcome!

Hello, Chambermagic, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Steve Cohen (magician), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! If you simply post the links to sources relevant to your BLP on your own user talk page (noting that some editors will reject self-published sources) you should trust some editors will, in fact, add such proper information as may be gleaned therefrom. Or write to editors who have had experience in writing biographies of magicians on Wikipedia in a non-sensational manner. Collect (talk) 11:57, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your kind welcome and useful suggestion. All sources for this biography page are from legitimate media outlets (NY Times, Forbes Magazine, Crains NY, Variety, etc) so I hope that the content appears non-sensationalized. In the future I will be sure to reach out to the editors who have contributed to this page, for further guidance. Chambermagic (talk) 14:29, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just avoid using a vanish bag. <g> Collect (talk) 15:01, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Very funny! By the way Collect, there is a very angry person who has made five edits to the talk page on my BLP in the past 10 minutes. Is the best course of action to ignore, rather than to engage? Also what can I do to invite another editor (perhaps yourself) to corroborate the content of my BLP page to remove the COI tag? Thanks so much - I'm a pretty reasonable person to deal with, and hope to resolve all of this messiness without much to-do. Chambermagic (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Try not to let such editors get you upset -- the closer you appear to monitor your own page, the weirder some editors get. For fun, look at the extensive history at David Copperfield's page, and see how well off your biography is in comparison. BTW, anyone every mention how much you look like a young Steve Forbes? Collect (talk) 22:31, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) Hello, I've removed the troll's comments and already notified administrator Bbb23. I'm also available to help Collect and other users to clean up the COI if possible. Also, if you are Mr. Cohen (I don't doubt that you are, but still, the art of magic – I am very appreciative of it), you can add {{notable Wikipedian}} on the article talk page to show that you are the subject and add yourself to this list. (FTR, I have a bad sense of humor. Don't worry, I agree that you look like Forbes. Just don't fall for the trolls on your page. Another bad joke courtesy of me.) Finally, do not be afraid to ask for help. Good work adding references there on your article. Thanks for your contributions. – Epicgenius (talk) 22:35, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Epicgenius and Collect for your level-headed attention toward my BLP page. Yes I am the genuine subject (no magic there...). Is it advised that I add {{notable Wikipedian}} to the article talk page? If so, what is the best way to add this? Does it need a distinct heading? Thank you for your assistance.Chambermagic (talk) 12:31, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
The code can simply be added to the top of the page, directly above the code == Multiple reverts of Jewish labels ==, and to make the template show that you are the subject, it should read {{Notable Wikipedian|Chambermagic}}; otherwise, it will just show a generic template. – Epicgenius (talk) 12:54, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
