AIV report

Thank you for making a report about Username (talk · contribs · block log) at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Also see the dialogue about the same editor at User_talk:Angus_Lepper#AIV_report. The issue is that the only warning before vandalism was a week before the vandalism, instead of a few minutes, so the IP address could well have changed to a different person. Anyhow, thanks for your counter-vandalism work. Keep it up! --Chaser - T 20:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Leeds United Music

What was wrong with the edit? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaboooz (talkcontribs)

What was the 'legitimate information'? Kaboooz 20:15, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

You removed who composed both songs and the period of time the single stayed in the UK chart which as far as I can tell is removing legitimate information because they are facts. Chappy TC 18:07, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Are you being serious? I added who composed the song "Leeds united" and added details regarding the length of time the single was in the chart, as they were not there before. I also corrected the information regarding when "Marching On Together" is played, as it is only played before kick-off and not at half-time or after full-time. In addition, after correcting the relevant details and adding appropriate information, I divided the section into two paragraphs so it was laid out better. I can't see why you reverted back to the original, which was incorrect in some areas, lacking certain details and generally worse gramatically. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding? Kaboooz 20:19, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for clearing that up. I might think about editing the 'Marching On Together' article some at some stage but surely the content of the second paragraph can be included, as it isn't too in-depth yet it is totally relevant and MOT is only played before kick-off, after Strings for Yasmin, and not 3 times as the current version suggests. Fair use rationale for Image:Black_Capricorn_Day.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Black_Capricorn_Day.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Sunshine Man 18:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Uploading images

Sorry to bother you again but being relatively new to wikipedia, I was just wondering how to go about uploading photos onto an article. You seem to be quite knowledgeable about all things wikipedia so perhaps you could help. I was thinking about adding more badges to the 'colours and crest' section of the Leeds United article, using images from wafll.com but what do I need to do as regards permission/copyright stuff or can you just use them? Leeds United Trialists

Yep okay, that's fine. Btw, reading the Yorkshire Post this morning, it says that Leeds officially only have 17 players on the their books at the moment. The likes of Rui Marques, Matt Heath and Tore Andre Flo have all been released, although it is expected that they will sign new deals with us when the transfer embargo stops. So for now, I've decided to take the three of them off until they do sign as they are not official Leeds players (in the article Simon Madden, Ben Parker, Gavin Rothery and a few others weren't mentioned too suggesting they are not on the books either so I've taken them off). Leeds Ladies

Hi, I was wondering where you are getting you information from about Leeds Ladies, as the only place I can find with information about them is femalesoccer.net. Chappy TC 11:36, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't usually take any particular interest in the Ladies team but I always check the Leeds United section of Newsnow for the latest LUFC news and this was one of the links:Katie Holtham joins Leeds. I read 'New Manager, Rick Passmoor, said...' and 'I also spoke with Mel Vauvelle the chairperson...' and I didn't recognise the names so I checked the Leeds United L.F.C. article and changed them. Kaboooz 12:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I've found another link [1] that clarifies a change of management and a relocation to The Park, home of Tadcaster Albion A.F.C. Kaboooz 12:11, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Leeds United 2007-08 Season

Hi, as a regular editor of the Leeds United wikipedia page, I just wanted to ask your advice on a matter. I found this page on FC Barcelona's 2007-08 season and was thinking of creating similiar page for Leeds? I can see no reason not to if other teams can have them, despite I suppose us being a team in a lower league although we definitely have the number of supporters that a Premier League or La Liga team would! t1v37r 19:23, 31 July 2007 (GMT)

Hi, erm yeah, These pages do keep on cropping up. The problem with them is that people start them with the intentions of keeping them up-to date but in the end they stay un-finished. There are a whole series of articles for each county cricket side for the 2005 season (see Yorkshire's Here) however the person whom created these didn't feel the inkling to create one's for the 2006 or 2007 seasons. There is a wiki-project dedicated to Football and football articles and the consensus on there was to advise against them due to the fact that most remain un-finished and in a few years they won't be really required or read by users. I would however on the positive side say that they are informative articles. people looking back may want to find this information out, I would just say that if you do want to create this article make sure you are dedicated to it as especially since we are a division two side now few if any people will be with you in providing frequent edits (with more editors than not probably just editing to add vandalism if their team beats us). I myself try to keep the main page and history page up-to date with major events and, although impossible to balance the information, in proportion as much as possible to previous decades. I've been, meaning to increase the amount of information on the revie era, as a lot of information is available on fan sites, but I have never got round to it. Also although unlikely that we won't, its not certain that we'll have a 2007-08 season at the moment so if you are going to create this article it might be an idea to hang of just until we're given that all important golden share back (which I'm begging we are, even though we're so ill prepared I think it may result in yet another relegation battle). Sorry if all that's a little negative against the creation it's just personal opinion from seeing previous similar aricles lagg behind and become beyond the point where it requires a reasonable amount of effort to get back up-to date. Chappy TC 20:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Right okay I get what you're saying. I may make a start in the next few days and put it up once we get the share (fingers crossed!!!). Cheers for the advice. t1v37r 21:51, 31 July 2007 (GMT)

Gardner Is Under Contract

Hello mate,

I've noticed that you've removed Scott Gardner from the Leeds United squad, on the Leeds United page. Your explanation is that he's not officially signed yet.

He signed a new contract with the club at the end of last season, at the same time as Ben Parker and Gavin Rothery.

He signed this contract, a one-year deal, on June 19. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/6767085.stm

Kind Regards,

Standingfish.

Gardner!

Hi mate,

Cheers for the reply. At the time when it was reported (in many sources) that those four young players had signed new contracts (or in Ameobi's case, a first contract), I remember being quite surprised because the club were supposed to be placed under a transfer embargo. Now it all makes sense.

You may also remember that it was reported in several sources that Tottenham had signed Danny Rose. However, only official confirmation of his transfer was released a week or so later, meaning the original reports were incorrect. His name is still listed on the club's website as a member of the current squad, along with Scott Roach, Tore Andre Flo, Alan Thompson and Nick Hamman.

Even when it was first announced that Stoke had signed Richard Cresswell, the move wasn't completed for another 24 to 36 hours. Premature reports of players signing contracts is something that very much annoys me, as I'm sure it does you too.

Something else that annoys me is the fact that there is no news on how long the contract is for that David Prutton has signed. Several sources have said that he has signed a 'trial contract', but there is no such thing. It's a contradiction in terms - the very fact that you are on trial means that you haven't signed a contract! He's been on trial since July for goodness sake - why would he hang around a whole month until the transfer embargo is lifted, on no pay whatsoever, only to sign a 'trial contract'?

Do you share my disgust about the inaccuracy of reporting, as regards transfers?

Kind regards,

Standingfish.

Squad Numbers!

Hi mate,

I notice that the squad numbers were released today!

Quite why the numbers have been almost completely re-jigged, yet 12, 13, 15, 24 and 25 all remain vacant (and it is the start of the season) is quite a mystery to me!

I wasn't holding my breath for Gavin Rothery and Tomi Ameobi to get squad numbers because they weren't involved with the first-team squad for the pre-season friendlies - with the exception of the final match of the pre-season, against Guiseley, which was mostly a scattering of reserves and fringe first-team players.

However, why on earth Jonathan Lund and Simon Madden didn't get numbers is a complete mystery to me! They both had squad numbers last season, yet are a year more experienced than in 2006-07. That means only one goalkeeper has a squad number - surely Lund is travelling with the first-team to Tranmere on Saturday! If not, who else is going to be on the bench that can play between the sticks?

Scott Loach (who I am informed is in fact Scott Loach and not Scott Roach as he was listed on the website) has gone back to Watford after his trial and ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Nick Hamann (who I am informed is in fact Nick Hamann and not Nick Hamman as he was listed on the website) has also not been handed a contract!

All very intriging.

Kind regards,

Standingfish.

Leeds Released Ryan Serrant!

I've just updated the page for Ryan Serrant.

According to many press reports, Leeds United released seven players at the end of last season. In no particular order, they were Hayden Foxe, Stephen Crainey, Sam Hird, Ian Moore, Armando Sá, Neil Sullivan and Robbie Elliott.

However, I have unearthed this little gem. Check it out: http://hufc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=6453&mode=threaded&pid=83931

So 11 players were released, not seven. Bailey Camfield, Joshua Vermooten, Philip Stansfield and Ryan Serrant are no longer Leeds United players. Both Bailey Camfield and Ryan Serrant now play for Farsley Celtic in fact. See: http://farsley.bpweb.net/firstteam.html

By the way, do you know anything about Liam Darville? I found a Wikipedia page for him but I never thought he'd been anywhere near the first-team.

Kind regards,

Standingfish.

Released Players!

Hi mate,

http://hufc.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=6453&mode=threaded&pid=83931

Regarding the four released players, I am pretty sure that they are out of contract players who have been released by Leeds United (Both Bailey Camfield and Ryan Serrant have since signed for Farsley Celtic). See: http://farsley.bpweb.net/firstteam.html

The reason I say this is as follows:

1) Ian Moore is also on the list. He was definately one of the players who was released by Leeds United at the end of last season. He has since signed for Hartlepool.

2) I've not checked all the players on the list (far too many) but it appears to me that most the players I have checked no longer, as of 2007, play for the clubs listed after their name. Their Wikipedia profiles says they were "released" by those clubs at the end of the season. Ironically, this doesn't apply to the first name on the list Aaron Lescott but that is probably because he has since signed a new contract with the club or his Wikipedia profile hasn't been updated. It applies to all the others I have checked so far.

3) "Free Transfer Currently on Transfer List" is the bit you eluded to - however, "Transfer List" might not necessarily refer to the individual club's transfer lists (i.e. Leeds United's in this case). It could just refer to a list of released players (from all clubs) who are therefore (as free agents) available for transfer, hence a transfer list. This list would be maintained by the PFA.

4) I seem to remember hearing that a list of players, who have been released by their clubs, is released by the PFA every pre-season. This pretty much looks like the list for 2007. If they were just placed on the transfer list by their clubs and were still under contract, I can't see the PFA putting them on their list.

Let me know what you think. I trust your judgement far more than I trust mine and if you tell me that they still play for Leeds United, then that draws a line under the issue as far as I'm concerned.

Replaceable fair use Image:CFairclough.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:CFairclough.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Calliopejen1 (talkcontribs) 12:35, 26 August 2007

It appears my little brother (90.206.20.208) has been vandalizing the Leeds page. I've had a chat with him, and hopefully he'll stop, but unfortunately he is a stereotypical teenager and I dunno if he'll listen to me. I think he will, but he thinks I'm being daft for getting annoyed at him. --GracieLizzie 20:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
