Some remarks
editDear Charlotte,
It was a real pleasure reading the draft of your article on the 'Authentic Account' of 1797 by Staunton. Thank you for that. I have seen the remarks, made by Ernst, and I think you have already fixed quite a few of the suggestions he made.
The book is very notable, and your article might become a valuable contribution to English Wikipedia.
Some remarks:
- perhaps you can use the Template:Infobox book. It automatically causes the title of the lemma to appear in italics, and places the book in some categories. Besides that, it brings some uniformity into all the different articles on en-wikipedia. See e.g.
- For the title: just use 'An Authentic Account of an Embassy from The King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China'. That's the name of the book. And perhaps it works out better when you use this short form in the first line of you article, and give the full title in the first paragraph. That makes the intro of the article more easily readable. And especially the first sentences must be easily accessible for all readers.
- Perhaps you can create a paragraph with 'Bibliographic information', with the full title, as given in footnote 1. Also giving links to OCLC (Worldcat) and important sources for the book. And integrating (perhaps as a sub-paragraph) the text on publication history, and as another subpar. the translation(s). When you use the Template:cite book with parameter 'ref=harv', you can link to it in references by simply using Template:sfn or a template like that (See e.g. The Advice to Hartlib).
Also make links here (perhaps in footnotes) to online versions, e.g. in IA:- vol 1: https://archive.org/details/authenticaccount01stau
- vol 2: https://archive.org/details/authenticaccount02stau
- etc. (there are more versions and vols in IA)
- and HathiTrust: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/012315178 (only vol1)
- ibidem for Google Books
- etc. for instance http://library.umac.mo/ebooks/b26046969a.pdf
- Perhaps you could better rename the 'Legacy' paragraph into 'Critical reception' or so.
- It would be good to make some more links inside your article, for instance to British imperialism, to China–United Kingdom relations, etc.
- Perhaps you can also "embed" your article in Wikipedia by making links from other pages to the new page. E.g. from Macartney Embassy, Sir George Staunton, 1st Baronet, etc.
- Did you think about Wikipedia:Categorization already? That's really important for a complete article.
Many greetings, --Dick Bos (talk) 14:47, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
