Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Chris Mutton. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page User:Chris Mutton/sandbox, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kline • talk to me! • contribs 00:28, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Kline,
- Thank you for bringing this conflict of interest information to my attention. I am quite new to the processes involved in writing or editing Wikipedia articles. Surely, as the article is related directed to me, there is an obvious conflict of interest. I will try to better understand the etiquette around COI and standard Wikipedia practices. The article has since been reviewed and not accepted, I'm sure related to COI and sources. I do have much more independent sources from Canadian and American newspapers. I will investigate perhaps putting it forward as a suggested article for creation, once I have edited the sources.
- Cheers, Chris. Chris Mutton (talk) 23:24, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Dan,
- Thank you for reviewing the article. I am new to Wikipedia, and am now getting a better understanding of the etiquette around conflict of interest and of citing sources. I do have other sources from independent Canadian and American newspapers, that would have been more appropriate. However, given the conflict of interest, I will read further and explore the articles for creation help desk and other tools.
- Cheers,
- Chris. Chris Mutton (talk) 23:37, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
