Chryspatterson
Thanks
editThanks for your picture of William Patterson! I am the first author of the Jeff Hawke Wikipedia page. As a fan of your father's comic, I am honoured to meet you. --Cyclopiatalk 21:06, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Cyclopia for your positive comments. I am new to editing on Wikipedia, not even sure if I should be responding to you on the same page but here goes anyway. I am the oldest daughter of William Patterson, now 60 and my married name is Chrys Muirhead. But I wanted to do the editing using my single name. I like what you've written about Jeff Hawke and use it often in Emails. I'm now a writer, of blogs [here's one Chrys Muirhead Blog], a Facebooker and Tweeter, also an activist and campaigner in mental health matters, living in Fife, Scotland.
Speedy deletion nomination of Willie Patterson
edit
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Willie Patterson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cyclopiatalk 09:24, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Disregard that, it has been an error. --Cyclopiatalk 09:27, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
What's going on here Cyclopia? Hope you can explain, thanks, Chrys Chryspatterson (talk) 09:30, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- I am very sorry, but your article is not compliant with our policy about articles needing to be verifiable, that is, their content needs to be cited in reliable sources, apparently. We need multiple reliable sources discussing the article subject to be sure it is notable, otherwise it does not belong here. Sorry. --Cyclopiatalk 09:33, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
The article Willie Patterson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Can't find reliable sources ; WP:NOTMEMORIAL
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cyclopiatalk 09:30, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Some of my comments on this page seem to have disappeared, not sure why. I would appreciate any suggestions that you have for improvement Cyclopia, since you are the one proposing deletion. I notice that Sydney Jordan has a page with information, some of which isn't accurate, as in his date of birth. Why then should a page about my father, written by me, be less reliable? Chryspatterson (talk) 10:06, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- I am sorry -Wikipedia has an intricate set of rules and policies. I'll link them around soon. As for your blog and other sites: I doubt they be considered reliable secondary sources. We need stuff like newspaper articles or discussion of him in books. Unfortunately we can't accept your own memories on a blog or stuff -I know they're reliable in the real-life everyday sense, but not in the formal sense we need for the encyclopedia. I understand your concern and I am deeply sorry, especially as someone who appreciated your fathers' work. But perhaps the better idea to preserve his legacy would be for you to put up a website on him outside Wikipedia? Of course if you happen to have sound secondary sources about your father, you can add them and then your article could be kept. As for your comments disappearing, I am not sure what you mean-I didn't touch them. --Cyclopiatalk 10:07, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- "Why then should a page about my father, written by me, be less reliable?" - For two reasons: First, you clearly have a close connection with the subject, which is considered a conflict of interest. This doesn't make you automatically unreliable, but makes your edits worth of more scrutiny. Second,because your memories are not a secondary reliable source as a book or news article. Wikipedia is just a mirror of what is in secondary sources. --Cyclopiatalk 10:10, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Mediran. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Willie Patterson without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Mediran talk to me! 11:16, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello Mediran - apologies for not remembering to add the four ~s, I'm very new to this so just learning, Chrys Chryspatterson (talk) 11:21, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- I think you misunderstood. Mediran was referring to the edit summary, you're not supposed to use your signature in articles, only in discussion pages like this one --Cyclopiatalk 11:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
OK think I'm beginning to get the hang of it Chryspatterson (talk) 11:27, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
should have read the rules first but as usual I just run on ahead ... Chryspatterson (talk) 11:28, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's okay, after all we also advise people to be bold!. Wikipedia unfortunately is more complicated than people think. Don't be disheartened by the normal beginners' hiccups. --Cyclopiatalk 11:38, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
That's OK Cyclopia, I don't give up easily but now taking a break to have some late breakfast or brunch (not sure what the blanking is all about what I'll get back to it later anon ... Chryspatterson (talk) 11:40, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello! Your edits caught my attention. Please don't leave pages blank and please present reasons or purposes of your blanking. Please discuss it first on the article's talk page on why the article should be blanked. You can also edit the page and improve it to meet Wikipedia policies. Since the article is about a dead person, sources are not necessarily to be plenty. Please see WP:BLANK for more info. Thanks, Mediran talk to me! 11:33, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well, she actually presented reasons in her last edit summary. Probably she wants it deleted instead than blank. Chrys, perhaps a good idea could be moving the article in your user (personal) space, so that you can work on it without being annoyed, if you can find some source? --Cyclopiatalk 11:39, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
thanks Mediran and Cyclopia, I'll work it out later, now going for some food then blogging and letting my cat in as she's at the window, again. Chryspatterson (talk) 11:44, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
