HI there!

edit

A fellow Scottish scientist, greetings! You've done impressive work with Immunology, which the Wikiproject has ignored a little. I've added the MCB tag to some of the immunology articles, but I'm sure you'd have a better idea of which ones are out there. Can I drop you a note next time I have a question about Immune-related stuff? I'm a molecular parasitologist who used to work with Alan Fairlamb in Dundee university, what's your academic ancestry? Yours fraternally TimVickers 15:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

P.S. You might be interested in helping out with the FA process of Immune system. TimVickers 19:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ditto on the great work! Antibody, in particular, is really shaping up nicely. I just have to ask, (in the spirit of anonymity) does your real name "sort of" rhyme with Leaven Cooled? It is just that know someone who would use the exact same infoboxes and fits the descriptions I have read elsewhere, can't be that many people out there.--DO11.10 04:08, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wow really, I thought I had you pegged! PhD at UA in Imm. then in the US and an academic, and you are a drinker (oh wait, also a Scot :)) Anyway, I am really a "mouse doctor" (hence my user name), and anything that you could add to the immunolgy pages that is outside the scope of humans (re: mammals) would be greatly appreciated. If you ever need anything, just let me know.--DO11.10 05:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the eicosanoid pix

edit

Thanks for the eicosanoid pix. I'm hoping to get the article up to A level; the pictures help a lot.

You asked

Needs a little simplification for readers unfamiliar with the background, especially with the chemistry and the acronyms that have been used.

Were you talking about the terms used in the article? Or in my comments about what needed to be done?

David.Throop 15:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ciar,
your doing the references on Eicosanoid long-hand. Would you like a hand to do the inline references?
Well, I'm using templates; it's not completely long-hand. I'm happy to have help, thanks! I like the Harvard style of references. It's not quite clear to me what 'inline' references mean. Does it mean a cite within the text (like I've got now with the Harvard style?) Or does it mean having all the info of the cite inline with a text, using <ref>? As near as I can tell, if we use the <ref> approach with the cite-info inline, there's no way to have an alphabetical list of references. The link you gave says that 'inline citations are considered mandatory', but it's not a policy doc.
I like the citation templates for several reasons, including that they enable the automated processing of citations by bots. The relevant policy WP:CITE#Full_citations notes that
Some editors find templates helpful, while other editors find them annoying, particularly when used inline in the text.
Put me in the camp that finds them annoying when used inline in the text.
Are you an artist? What I really need help with is Wikipedia:Wikiproject_Metabolic_Pathways/requested_pictures

Congratulations on your first featured article, Ciar. TimVickers 21:46, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I love the immunological peace sign. :) So — are Scots just born cool, or is there a special course you all take at Aberdeen before you're unleashed on the world? Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jurkats.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jurkats.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. vWF and acute phase

edit

My edit comment meant that factor VIII, which is normally bound to von Willebrand factor, is an acute phase protein (which it is, of course). However, vWF itself is not - unless I've missed something. It is mentioned on the acute phase protein page, but when I checked with the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, Prof Pepys doesn't list it as such. Harrison's doesn't provide such a list. PMID 17433810 does seem to indicate that it rises in inflammation, so the matter is clearly not settled. JFW | T@lk 21:32, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Antibody peer review

edit

Hi Ciar!! You've probably noticed, but I just put Antibody up for peer review. Seemed like a pretty good idea, and I thought that the input would be really nice, if you have any comments or suggestions.... I will post an FYI at the MCB and (probably at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Clinical medicine too since I put Poliomyelitis up for peer review as well).--DO11.10 03:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:IgBS.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:IgBS.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 08:06, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Allergy

edit

Hi Ciar,

Long time no see! I hope you are doing well. So, JFW asked me to take a look at allergy. I have had a pass through, made some edits, but it is not good. This was my favorite passage, urgh! Anyway, could you take a pass through when you get a chance? I am overwhelmed. Thanks!--DO11.10 (talk) 05:23, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are doing an excellent job! I feel like I am leaving you hanging, though. I promise to get in there in the next few days. Anything specific you would like me to focus on? I was planning on tackling the "epidemiology" bits so that the POV banner can be removed, but if you had anything in mind...?--DO11.10 01:02, 2 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Evolution talk page

edit

I don't mean to be offensive as I was talking more about a political regime influenced by religious fundamentalism. It is a fact that the Iranian government is repressing and suppressing scientist in Iran as published in Science magazine. Perhaps I should just add the reference. I am not attacking a people or religion and if you are Iranian and I offended you then I apologize for any unintended insults. Regards, GetAgrippa 19:29, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for qualifying, and you are probably correct that I was being insensitive. It did strike me odd and I apologize if I sounded harsh. I am known to stick my foot in my mouth on occassion so I appreciate your concerns. Thanks again. GetAgrippa 20:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Upon further thought. You convicted me so I recanted. I tend to be a jovial sort and I wouldn't intentionally insult anyone. Regards GetAgrippa 20:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Snake articles

edit

Hi Ciar! I've noticed you've been busy to a certain degree with the snake articles, but I also see that you know something about biochemistry and so forth. So, I was thinking: perhaps you'd be interested in making some more serious contributions to the venomous snake articles, particularly to the venom sections. You may not be a toxinologist, but I'm sure you understand more about the subject than I do. I was thinking of more venom information like that in Echis, Echis carinatus and Daboia, but I struggle with the source material, because to me it usually looks to be written by specialists for specialists (or just poorly written). If you think this would be outside your field (or just don't have the time), then I'd understand, but if you'd like to give it a try, I'd be happy to help out where I can. (PS -- Please answer here, as I've temporarily added your talk page to my watchlist). --Jwinius (talk) 02:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey there Jwinius. This isn't really my speciality, but I will have a go at converting some of those medical terms into plain English....when I get a free moment that is! Thanks, ~ Ciar ~ (Talk to me!) 05:21, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
IMO, the language that's there now isn't all that bad, especially when the terms are linked to articles that make a good job of explaining the concepts. What I'd really like to see it new stuff. But, if you think that's a bit too challenging, then I understand. --Jwinius (talk) 13:34, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
