edit

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia.

When you add stuff to articles, you need to add your references inside the article itself. Putting your source in your edit summary doesn't count; it has to be in the article itself. If you need help referencing, please see this page. Happy editing! Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 02:12, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Yoshi24517. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Hugh Francis Redmond, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 02:14, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I did supply a source. All I put in was that Hugh francis Redmond is Irish american. Evans, J. (2023) Today in history: The ‘Ice Cream Spy’ dies a mysterious death, We Are The Mighty. Available at: https://www.wearethemighty.com/history/hugh-francis-redmond-ice-cream-spy/. Here's another citation Hugh Francis Redmond: Irish American CIA spy and hero (2021) IrishCentral.com. Available at: https://www.irishcentral.com/roots/history/hugh-francis-redmond-cia-hero (Accessed: 11 May 2023). Clancy1987 (talk) 19:29, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Daniel Daly. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 18:40, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I did provide a citation. The mans last name is Daly (Ó Dálaigh) you cant get more Irish than that. I haven't made huge alterations to the document. All I added was that Dan Daly was of Irish descent. Both of his parents came from Co. Cork ireland. Dee Notaro on November 1, 2014 at 6:00am and Blog, V. (no date) Sgt. Major Daniel Daly, thewildgeese.irish. Available at: https://thewildgeese.irish/profiles/blogs/november-irish-birthday. Clancy1987 (talk) 19:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
For what its worth, you did add your sources inside the article, so I appreciate that, so I formatted the references to match our policies on how to reference, and filled in the details for you. You can see them for yourself from these two diffs of my edits: [1], [2] Hope this helps! Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 22:01, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I am actually looking at videos online on how to edit wikipedia using citations & proper sources. In the case of Hugh francis Redmond. i inserted "Redmond was of Irish descent" citing an article from Wearthemighty.com. Its a military website in america. my edit was reverted on the grounds that the source was not reliable. thats what came up. As far as i know Wearethemighty is a highly reputable online media outlet. My citation for Dan daly was rejected as well. are my sources poor or are my citations technically wrong. I understand i was incorrectly inserting my citations into the summary box. i wont do it again Clancy1987 (talk) 00:15, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please format your reference correctly before putting it into the article. See this page for the correct template to use, and after you set it up correctly, you would place that in ref tags, which can be explained on this page. Do keep in mind I'm not trying to revert your edits every way I can, I'm trying to help you so you can learn what our policies are and how to edit. Please understand though, that when I reverted your earlier edits for being unsourced, it was because your content was truly unsourced at the time. When you added your stuff, you put your references in your edit summary, and not technically "in the article" so it would be considered unsourced as there was no reference to go along with it. However, in the future, please put your references in the cite web template (for websites), and then put that in ref tags. If you need any help at all, please do not hesitate to ask me. If you would like an example, you can click this link, to see what I did: [3] Have a good day! Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 03:56, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
