Link spamming
editWhether with you or with one of your colleagues, we have already been through the painful process of explaining what link-spamming is and why it shouldn't happen on Wikipedia. I do hope that this is not a block evasion by creating a new user name, because that tends to end in rather more far reaching consequences than a simple time limited block.
In the hope that this is all a misunderstanding, would you please revert the link additions that you have made and then perhaps you would care to make some useful contributions and be a useful part Wikipedia. Thank you Velella Velella Talk 19:28, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
More about linkspam
editOn 30th May, and again on 3rd June, a new account Cmattison387 (talk · contribs) made over 40 edits adding links to a few papers. 14 more were added by an IP registered to Clemson University. Wikipedia is very resistant to being used for any kind of promotion, and this is called linkspamming. The policy on external links is explained at WP:EL, where the section WP:EL#ADV says that because of the conflict of interest involved people should not directly add link to their own sites.
If you read User talk:Cmattison387 you will see that that user was given, but ignored, a number of warnings, and finally I was obliged to block the account for a week. Cmattison then said that s/he had been asked to add these links "by one of my professors."
Now you have appeared and started adding the same links again. My first reaction is to treat you as a "sockpuppet" of Cmattison evading the block, which would result in a longer block of both accounts; but with a mighty effort I will assume that you did not know of Cmattison's previous attempts and block. Please explain to your professor, and pass the news around your department, that Wikipedia is not to be link-spammed in this way, and that any further attempts to add links in contravention of WP:EL#ADV will result in longer blocks and/or blacklisting the relevant names.
Here are some pages that will tell you more about Wikipedia and how to contribute:
Blocked
editAfter writing all the above, I have changed my mind on discovering that two other new accounts, Hunterjumper1800 (talk · contribs) and Tbrandt20 (talk · contribs) have also been posting the same linkspam. This is evidently an organized campaign. JohnCD (talk) 11:49, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. JohnCD (talk) 11:49, 8 June 2013 (UTC)- An "indefinite" block does not necessarily mean "infinite", but see the WP:Guide to appealing blocks for what you need to do in order to be unblocked. JohnCD (talk) 12:10, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
