In Utero

Most of the info in the Recording section comes from Come As You Are, so I can take care of that in a day or two. You can trim and add cite tags if you want. You might want to take the lead on arranging a Critical Reception section. Also, we could use one or two more soundclips. One of the more abrasive songs should definitley be included ("Radio Friendly Unit Shifter", "Very Ape") and maybe one of the singles (I personally favor "Heart-Shaped Box"). Very minor formatting issue

I know this is a very minor issue, but why I've noticed you keep changing album articles to have only a single linebreak after the album infobox, while I keep changing them to have two. I most recently noticed that here. I think it would be productive if we could come to some agreement on this. The reason I change articles to have two line breaks is only because in my experience that's what the vast majority have, and I prefer album articles to be as uniformly formatted as possible. --PEJL 20:52, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

An image disappeared from Music of Israel

I visited the page just now and discovered that the image Image:HoraIsraeliDance.jpg has disappeared. Someone a few weeks ago noted that there was insufficient documentation for the source of the picture, and I added the missing information to the description (I took the picture from the Israeli Wikipedia, which has detailed documentation on the source and copyright of the picture in Hebrew).

But, as far as I can tell, the picture wasn't deleted - it just disappeared. When I try to view the delete log, it says there is none.

You have any ideas what happened?

Not necessarily--it just means somebody hasn't gotten around to making an article for those groups (assuming they are notable enough to deserve one). (band), "Monkey Gone to Heaven", A.M. (album), The Cure, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Wilco, Loose Fur, John Frusciante, A Ghost Is Born and Being There (album), a total of 11 articles, were promoted to good article status; a record month. In reply: (1) I am lost as to why you were unable to reply to the critique. (2) The if statements are left over from the substitution (this critique format is generated from a template). (3) I believe that Grunge should be capitalized, but it's a very iffy call that I will concede to. But generally, art movements are capitalized, but when used generally or as adjectives they are not. Idea

What do you think of moving indie music to "independent music"? Now that I think about it, it's a more sensible title and cuts down on confusion regarding proper genres like indie rock and indie pop. WesleyDodds 00:48, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

By the way, I'm going to add material to Let It Be right now. Which version of the book do you want to go by when citing pages? If you want to go by yours I can include my page references but you can change them to the pages in your book. Pixies images

Hi, I noticed you replaced a couple of images I removed from Pixies song articles, for example Image:SurferRosa.jpg. I originally removed them because fair use of album artwork should really only be used to illustrate articles about the album itself - not individual songs. There is no fair use rationale specified for use of Pixies images in song articles, and I'm not sure if it can be justified. There was a fairly dead ended discussion on this at Template talk:Infobox Song. What do you think? Is it possible to add fair use rationales for inclusion of the images in song articles? Actually, there must be a separate rationale for each time an image is used. See WP:NFC#Tagging non-free image files for guideline. Your comments on my page are rather astute, and I wholly agree with them. There's this current culture where Metal editors are more concerned with creating articles on obscure bands than improving articles related to the bigger bands, which is rather unfortunate. I certainly don't mind it being similar to the ALM Project design. While I'm real grateful for your help, I will admit that I am somewhat sceptical that it will transform the Project.

You said if I have a question. Well, I do. How come a redesign of the front page transformed the Project? A lot of the Metal editors are fly by visitors to be honest, and their signature shouldn't have even been registered. It's more a statement of liking Metal music than taking measures to improve the presence of Metal on Wikipedia. LuciferMorgan 21:54, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Grunge

I'm hoping to be done with sourcing by the end of the week (particularly since I'll be leaving town this weekend). It's coming along nicely. Portal pictures

Thinking with the increase of FAs at the alt-rock portal we should increase the number of pictures so it isn't so repetitive (I think there's like six in the Selected Image queue). Nirvana songs

I mentioned to Brandt Luke Zorn that we should probably turn a number of Nirvana song articles into redirects. I've already turned the most insubstantial song pages into redirects (most of them now redirect to With the Lights Out). You might want to tackle a few you feel really wouldn't sustain full articles. Moving sections of pages

How do I properly move a section of a page to a new page, with out copy/paste? For example, I think the Moline, Illinois#Neighborhoods section is too long for the main page, and think there should be a separate article called "Moline Neighborhoods". Please help! ok, i'll see how well i can clean it up...and i think if i understood correctly, if it is split, i have to have an admin move the previous article history to the new one, not sure if that is right, cause then it would have all the previous edits, not just the ones related to the neighborhoods. let me know if you find out! I only discovered the New York Times archive after Ceoil gave me a link to an article there when I was working on "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Definitely a valuable resources; there's a lot of Pixies articles there, and it's interesting to see them use the phrase "alternative rock" quite frequently in the late 1980s. If you want to access an article that requires payment you might want to ask Ceoil, since he has an account there. WesleyDodds 21:14, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Writing a fair use rationale

Hi, if you want to use Image:Huskerduband.jpg under a fair use claim, can you please edit the image page to state explicitly which article or articles you are making the claim for and why. While such details as an image being low resolution or it being impossible to obtain a free image, etc. are a very relevant part of a fair use rationale, it really is necessary to state in what way the image contributes significantly to a particular article. This prevents abuse of FU by putting non-free images into articles in which they are purely decorative. For example, there was an image of Saddam (now deleted) which had a handwritten FU rationale saying that the image showed how easily Saddam sat on his throne, and that image was being used to decorate the article 2006. There is no such thing as a non-free image which is fair use in itself: it can only be fair use in a particular article or (more unusually) in particular articles. Thanks.
