False positive report failure

Hi there. I had an edit reverted by the cluebot. I tried to report it using the id, but there was an error. So I copied the text from the report screen and pasted it on the false report page. Please take a look. I think it was a good edit. Here is the text of the failure screen: array (

'error' =>
array (
 'code' => 'blocked',
 'info' => 'You have been blocked from editing',
),

)

Done.

Anti-bots?

Any discussion generally criticizing use of bots to revert edits? Seems the potential for abuse due to systemic bias is high with such bots.--SmashTheGlass (talk) 23:15, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Phrase?

See the discussion here [1]. Is there any way to add this phrase (and variations) to cluebot's checklist? It's a common vandalistic term used by a lot of school IP (bored kids). Burpelson AFB (talk) 02:54, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Capitalization error

I don't know if this bot will ever create another asteroid stub, but I'd like to point out that thousands of these stubs were created with some incorrect capitalization, using the phrase, "Main-belt Asteroid"[2], or sometimes, "Main-belt asteroid". I am in the process now of correcting the capitalisation of these.

I am also fixing the links within, to reflect what is probably a move in an article title. These were originally wikilinked as Main-belt Asteroid, and I am changing them to main belt asteroid, as there is no article Main-belt Asteroid (it now redirects to Asteroid belt). My use of two links (one to Asteroid belt and one to asteroid was just a personal choice, but one which I think benefits the reader.

Anyway, I've done probably a couple hundred of what are I believe over 11,000 of these articles. Is there any way that the bot could be programmed to do what I have been doing? (Example: [3]) 98.82.34.167 (talk) 07:02, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Archiving Error

Please see this edit. From the edit summary, it looks like it thought there was an error and was trying to restore the conversation to the main talk page. Instead, it made the archive a duplicate of the talk page and lost all the archive contents. I've fixed it, but thought you might want to look into what happened to prevent future occurrences. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:32, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Ramsgate

Please be aware that I, Aubi Faedra have contibuted significantly to early wikipedia data, but have no wish to resume free data logging. However, a typo on the history of the name Ramsgate is so obvious, especially if you can translate and speak Anglo Saxon I am dissapointed it has remained unchanged for six years. Given the typo has translated to the Ramsgate Society website, and discussions are underway with them, you might like to consider yourselves party to this gaff. Enjoy and join. I have nothing but continuing support for wikipedia, but no wish to participate, other than recitfying errors/typos as noted to me by my friends. Score equals -X

I notice that whenever ClueBot finds generic repetitive characters or nonsense characters in an excessive sequence like:

It doesn't reply with what it actually is, but rather it wrote respectively score equals -2790 and score equals -1447. Unless you want to keep it looking a little automated, perhaps some additions can be made. mechamind90 07:05, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Help me!!

Hello, I know this the right place to report clue bot errors but, since I'm an Ip user, I can't write down reports. When I do I get the following message:

array (

'error' =>

array (
 'code' => 'blocked',
 'info' => 'You have been blocked from editing',
),

)

Done.

I was editing List of designated heritage properties in Ottawa, specifically adding the historic Fleet Street Pumping Station. This addition is a very constructive edit; it was built in 1875 ( it has its own Wikipedia article) and has the bronze plaque. If you look at the history of this list you will see that I have done the past 50 edits, all which of where constructive. Several of the images of these buildings I included, you can clearly see the characteristic bronze plaque. I live in Ottawa and have an intrest in historic buildings, hence the involvement. This was a good edit, in which I included the Wikipedia link and a valid picture. Please undo the revert of this edit and take off the shaming warning on my user page thank you. (PS hope this problem can be adressed here) 99.241.220.157 (talk) 01:25, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello its me agian. Cluebot undid ALL my past 57 edits on that list, and I am very peeved. These edits took my five days, with me going into municipal websites and verfying the presence of bronze plates with Google maps. Please, seriously, somebody undo the revert done by Cluebot 617155. Thanks 99.241.220.157 (talk) 01:45, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you got caught there... but, anyway. I've reverted the false positive. In the future, you are free to revert Cluebot yourself. Please see Help:Reverting for information on how to do this. Cluebot will not revert the same editor twice in a row on one page in a 24 hour period. You are also free to remove warnings from your own talk page. Someguy1221 (talk) 01:46, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Final warning

This IP User talk:87.82.242.250 had its final warning in January of 2009. There then follows an endless stream of further incidences of vandalism. Can that be followed up with an indefinite block this time? Thanks.
Varlaam (talk) 21:41, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Varlaam
I've had a look at this IPs edits and have noted that they did not edit Wikipedia between October 2009 and 6 May 2010. Also, the IP is registered to a college so it is unlikely that the person making the recent edits is the same person making the edits in October. Thirdly, the person has only received 1 warning of late, any warnings from October 2009 and before cannot really be counted as they will now be considered stale. Finally the IP has not edited since you posted on their talk page and advised them that their edit had been reverted. I would suggest that you report the user to WP:AIV if the vandalism continues and once the user has been appropriately warned, although they are unlikely to consider an indefinite block because the IP does belong to a college. I hope this helps :) --5 albert square (talk) 22:03, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Given the lengthy history, why isn't it just simpler to force individuals to register and separate the wheat from the chaff that way?
I can't tell you how often I've reverted some vandalism some place only to discover that the joker has that 3 or 4 "final warnings" already at that point. The awesome Day of Wrath that never arrives.
I looked over this college's edit history, not exhaustively but to some degree. I didn't notice anything of value coming from there, did you? Some two-bit glorified high school.

Reporting Flse Positive Malfuntion

I was reverting a false positve on the page List of Phineas and Ferb characters & went through the process outlined in the instruction page. When I hit enter, all I got was this message:

array (

'error' =>
array (
 'code' => 'blocked',
 'info' => 'You have been blocked from editing',
),

)

Done.

The reason for the false positive in the first place is that a lot of text was deleted in the process.Although a large amount of text was deleted, it was mainly text that was unnessary. The deleted text consisted of lists of episodes of appearance or mention and descriptions of the personal lives of the characters, done in a style similar to one who is ranting about the love life of their favorite soap opera characters. Other deletions occured in the course of fixing the confusing and rambling writing style of the previous author, which served to make the article more confusing than nesessary. Is there anyway I can fix this, seeing as the Cluebot seems to hate me.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoudounbruja117 (talkcontribs) 19:14, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Reporting False Positive

I was marking a page for deletion (A broken redirect) and when I put the deletion box on the top, it made the redirect look different. I thought I might be supposed to put the deletion box on the bottom, but when I did, the bot reverted it because I "added a broken redirect."

VandalBot source

Hi Cobi, I was trying to bring the vandalbot back on it.wiki, as I did ~ 2 years ago. I was wondering if you have some kind of VCS or if I have to pull the source from here. Thankyou Fale (talk) 07:36, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm taking the code from that page, but I receive a tons of errors (I am able to run it, but it returns a lot of "Undefined offset" errors and I'm not yet able to edit the wiki). I was wondering if I'm missing something or is 'normal' to receive all these PHP Notice and PHP Warning.. Fale (talk) 09:42, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Btw: could you please handle me the sql scheme, please? Fale (talk) 09:47, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
You'll have to take it from that page. It appears that your PHP is set to E_STRICT -- which tells PHP to spit out warnings about things that are really OK. As for the schema, it is fairly simple, and is just used for logging, but here is the schema:
CREATE TABLE `vandalism` (
 `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
 `timestamp` timestamp NOT NULL default CURRENT_TIMESTAMP on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
 `user` varchar(256) NOT NULL,
 `article` varchar(256) NOT NULL,
 `heuristic` varchar(64) NOT NULL,
 `regex` varchar(2048) default NULL,
 `reason` varchar(512) NOT NULL,
 `diff` varchar(512) NOT NULL,
 `old_id` int(11) NOT NULL,
 `new_id` int(11) NOT NULL,
 `reverted` tinyint(1) NOT NULL,
 PRIMARY KEY (`id`),

The word "fag", "faggot", "f a g"", or any other variations of that word

Can you catch when a user adds the word "fag", "faggot", "f a g", or any other variations of that word to any Wikipedia page? I'm watching several LGBT-related pages, and many anti-gay edits that constantly get reverted contain variations of that word. You can see contributions made by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Brucejenner.
Native94080 (talk) 06:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Those words are actually already monitored by Cluebot (see source code). Whether they can be scored more harshly without incurring false positives, I don't know. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:39, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Other variations of that word are being used, such as in plural form. An example of the word being used in plural form can be found here. Native94080 (talk) 07:49, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Should I try to modify the source code myself? Native94080 (talk) 19:30, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
The regular expressions already match most (all except *fag*, which is used in a lot of other words). Modifying that page will do nothing -- the bot just posts its current configuration there, it does not read its configuration from there. Therefore, please do not modify that page. Thanks. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 05:01, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

E1 Entertainment Edits

Hi Cobi, I'm a relative newbie to the wiki-world. I work for Entertainment One (E1 Entertainment) and have noticed that the major of the pages that refer to the company have inaccuracies. We have editted the pages several times, but each time, the edits are rejected. Today when I attempted to update the E1 Entertainment Distribution page, I received a message from ClueBot which has led me to you. Wondering if you can shed some light on how I can make sure that the information appearing regarding my company is correct. Thanks. Scottemac (talk) 19:59, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Scottemac
First of all welcome to Wikipedia!
From the message that ClueBot left, I can see that the edit appears to have been reverted because there was content removed from the page without explanation. I would always suggest that if you are removing content from a page no matter how big or small that you always state the reason briefly in the edit summary box. This helps others understand your edits and reversions like this are less likely.
If there is inaccuracies in an article about a company that you're associated with, I would suggest that you read Wikipedia:Contact us/Article problem/Factual error (from enterprise). There is lots of advice on this page on what to do next plus some contact information for Wikipedia.
I hope this helps, if you need further information then please don't hesitate to ask myself or ClueBot :) --5 albert square (talk) 20:13, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

WP:CHU/S

Hi. In this edit and many similar edits to WP:CHU/U, ClueBot VI wrote ':Clerk note User "Lkarsten" is not registered. Please see WP:CHU instead.'. Please change 'WP:CHU' to the less ambiguous 'WP:CHU/S' so that attempted usurpations of nonexistent usernames can be more easily simplified.   — Jeff G. ツ 21:42, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

As a more radical alternative, please close the WP:CHU/U request and post a correct request on the user's behalf to WP:CHU/S instead so that attempted usurpations of nonexistent usernames can be much more easily simplified. Thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 21:42, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Also, anyone should be able to notify the target username of a WP:CHU/U request using ~~~~, not just the attempted usurper. ClueBot VI only recognizes notifications signed by the attempted usurper at present.   — Jeff G. ツ 06:14, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
