Question from Ikarod on Zheravna (00:39, 6 July 2024)

Hey there! Recently started editing some pages/reviewing for copy edits. Does Wikipedia prefer a space between a number and the units or no space? That convention depends so wanted to check. --Ikarod (talk) 00:39, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello there! I believe it's your choice to add a space between the number and units, or to not add a space between them at all. I hope this helps, and happy editing! Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 02:00, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

How to remove a redirect to a section in order to start a new article

Hi, @Codename Noreste! I'm fairly new to Wikipedia editing (since February 2024) and while I've been learning a lot along the way, there are things that still stump me. Right now, I need to translate an article (es:Literatura de Ecuador) from the Spanish Wikipedia into English. And the title of my English translation will be Ecuadorian literature. However, there's already a redirect from that title to the Literature section of the Culture of Ecuador article. And I'm not sure how to proceed in this case, as I don't want to break or mess up anything!

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

TheTastyWord (talk) 17:57, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello, @Codename Noreste, are you available? I really need to work on this article. But both Literature of Ecuador and Ecuadorian Literature are redirected to the article Culture of Ecuador and I don't know how to free these titles so I can create a new page.
Thanks. TheTastyWord (talk) 18:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
I apologize for this late reply, TheTastyWord. Personal stuff and Hurricane Beryl that I have to deal with got in the way… anyway where are we, oh right.
The section you mentioned redirects to a section in that page (Culture of Ecuador), but you can copyedit and/or improve that section; the literature section doesn't have any sources, but you can expand it with information based on the Spanish Wikipedia, and make sure that you are bold, but not reckless, in updating it. I hope this helps, and thank you! Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 19:07, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
Oh, no! I read about the hurricane, I hope you and your loved ones are OK. :(
Thanks for your quick reply. Is there any way I can create a new page instead of just editing the section? And then create a link in the "Culture of Ecuador" page to the main article? That's actually what I wanted to do, since the original Spanish article is only about literature and I want it to have its own page in English, as well, if possible. That was my question, actually, how do I eliminate the redirects so that I can "claim" the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecuadorian%20literature URL. Thank you! (I tried looking in the MOS and Help pages but couldn't find what I'm looking for). TheTastyWord (talk) 19:19, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
I have an idea: you could make a subpage in your userspace (Special:MyPage/Ecuadorian literature), and probably add information based on that article you want to translate from eswiki (but do make sure to proofread it and add additional citations that can make the content verifiable in question). Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 19:36, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
Awesome, thank you! :) TheTastyWord (talk) 19:39, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Enigmainkwell (03:03, 12 July 2024)

Hello, I created a page about an hour or so ago. I am in the sandbox environment, reading and learning as I go along, and some person tagged my sandbox for speedy deletion. I just learned how to make a heading, bold it, and make a paragraph in a sandbox learning environment. Why would he flag me and have it deleted? Where can we practice? What's the point of the learning and reference articles? --Enigmainkwell (talk) 03:03, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello, new user. Currently, there's your sample page (User:Enigmainkwell/Sample page) or Wikipedia:Sandbox, where you can test out editing functions. Thank you. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 03:09, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate you putting it back. I visited that person's talk page, and it appears that he deletes many people's sandboxes and sample learning environments in less than an hour, marking them for removal. Many thanks for fixing this for me :) Enigmainkwell (talk) 03:16, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

Updated (possibly)

Hi. I've seen your reply. The private filter seems to have been modified by your pal on 02:34 yesterday (UTC). Let's hope those filters prevent the same type of edits committed by that prolific block evader this time. They seem to be actively floating outside the ranges listed in the LTA case. Question from ROSLYNSchutte on Edmondson railway ticket (02:15, 13 August 2024)

Hi, How do you save what you have edited? --ROSLYNSchutte (talk) 02:15, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello ROSLYNSchutte, and welcome to Wikipedia! There is a button called Save/Publish changes in which allows you to save your edit(s). You can also add in an edit summary to explain what changes you have done (optional, but recommended). I hope my reply helps, and thank you. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 02:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello Noreste! About the edit by 177.189.25.156 to EA Sports FC 24...

That edit by 177.189.25.156 was not disruptive even though it was not english. He meant:

a football game in which you can create your career as player and as manager and can create your own team

Yes, i understand portuguese. DANGA14talk 19:24, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

It looks like this IP address placed the text in question right next to the dmy date template, and besides that, all contributions on the English Wikipedia must be in English. I hope my response helps. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 19:31, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

On your comment in the phab

@Codename Noreste: I just now saw your post in the phab on the 7th, pretty sure the reason you didn't get the CAPTCHA is mentioned by EggRoll in the post at EFN, that is, your alt account is autoconfirmed so it was skipped. – 2804:F1...E9:FD1D (talk) 22:09, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing this out, but I'm not seeing any further responses on T20110. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 22:30, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Further responses? I don't understand what you mean. – 2804:F1...E9:FD1D (talk) 22:48, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
More replies, in this context. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 22:57, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I just don't understand what you mean with 'but'? I read it as something like 'thanks, but that doesn't solve the problem', while what I was pointing out is that that is, apparently, the desired behaviour, per what EggRoll said in the edit filter noticeboard? – 2804:F1...E9:FD1D (talk) 23:05, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
I've meant to say that I appreciate you pointing me out about that the CAPTCHA didn't work on my alt/test account, but I do not see any comments after my comment on that phab ticket (the latter not being that it doesn't solve the problem).
Currently, I'm not seeing any new topics or responses on that noticeboard. Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 00:17, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mike.dill01 (21:39, 26 August 2024)

Hey. I'm trying to edit an article about Ryder and two people keep reverting my changes. I'm citing unbiased articles in the changes. What I changed was the company's revenue and employee numbers from 2019 to 2024, as well as adding new info that has happened since the article was last edited in 2019. And added new photos. I was told the information was promotional but the sources were new media bloomberg and yahoo. --Mike.dill01 (talk) 21:39, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

EFH

Hi CN, your local EFH is redundant, now that you're a global EFH. You might want to get an admin to clean that up. Cheers Nobody (talk) 11:01, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion 1AmNobody24, but I've earned the trust of the local and Meta communities to earn these highly trusted rights, and I'll step up to be a Meta admin by the end of this year, and to be an edit filter manager by next spring. Which noticeboard do I request this in, the edit filter noticeboard? Anyway, cheers. :) Codename Noreste 🤔 Talk 15:55, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Going for meta adminship is definitely a smart move, since you're working on global abuse filters. But abuse filter helper won't be removed when becoming a meta admin so having the local edit filter helper is redundant when having the global abuse filter helper. No need to ask on a noticeboard, just ask any admin of your choice. Good luck and keep up the great work.   Nobody (talk) 17:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
