editWelcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 02:27, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Your apology
edit...is much appreciated. We live and learn. I just wanted to clarify a misconception you seem to have: Many Wikipedia articles are the product of a vast number of people.
However, we all try to follow the core policies of content and style, namely, that articles must be neutral, must not contain original research, and that we must reference sources that are both reliable and verifiable. Familiarize yourself with those things, and you should be fine. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:17, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! ^_^ I felt so "black-balled" and near-ostracized, but I guess it was my own fault. I mean, I think I somewhat understood the terms which should be met for articles posted directly here, but as I was offering something for an external link, I thought it would be fine. Like, I've often found many external links lead to items online that aren't so encyclopedic, but add this-and-that in the lines of further thinking. I'll do much more studying up on all of the terms before I try to contribute in any way, though. Thanks for your input - it is very appreciated! ^_^
- A couple other things: By inserting colons in front of lines of text you type, you can indent them to delineate different parts of a conversation more clearly. I have done that above.
- Second, regarding external links: Many inapporopriate external links exist on Wikipedia. We remove them when we see them, but we never catch them all. I usually leave alone the links that seem marginal if there isn't already anything better available.
- The Wikipedia:External links guidelines are fairly extensive. Generally, an external link should serve to expand on the content of the article when the content of the link is too detailed for inclusion in the article. An example would be a biography article with an external link to an interview with the subject. Inline citations are always preferable to external links, however.
- The types of external links I find myself deleting most often are links to blogs, fansites, discussion forums or other community sites, and sites that exist for promotional purposes (spam). Sometimes these links are placed in good faith, as you did with your link. But usually I find the links are put there by someone with a conflict of interest.
- Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia, and enjoy your editing. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
hello, coeur-senechal. do not worry, as i myself, even if i have been here for quite some time, still do my own mistakes, as we all do. however, you must learn to accept the fact that you are an human being, that is, imperfect in nature, and prone to errors.
but you seem like a nice person, and i wanted to greet you and welcome you to wikipedia. so, how about a nice cup of wine? Twipley (talk) 00:40, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
