Consistency and brevity in infoboxes

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Moeen U Ahmed, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.
The documentation for infoboxes about people says that, regarding birth place, "What the place may correspond to on a modern map is a matter for an article's main text." Avoid verbosity in infoboxes. Use the name of the place at the time of the event, don't clutter the infobox with the modern name.

  • Right: Begumganj, East Bengal, Pakistan
  • Wrong: Begumganj, East Bengal, Pakistan (now Chittagong, Bangladesh)

Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Rana Mohammad Sohail. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. You are still adding parenthetical "(now ... Bangladesh)" to birth place in infoboxes, such as in this edit. Doing so violates established consensus. You are welcome to try to convince the community to change its standards and conventions regarding modern day names of historical places in this infobox field, but unless you succeed in doing so, all such parenthetical additions will be removed. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:29, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Did not maintain any parenthetical info towards birthplace at inboxes after your first message criteria. ColNaz (talk) 10:49, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
