Antifa (United States)

edit

I reverted your edit] to the article. The source you added does not support calling Antifa a "mostly peaceful" organization. It clearly differentiates between peaceful protestors and Antifa: Most people who show up to counter or oppose white supremacist public events are peaceful demonstrators, but when antifa show up, as they frequently do, they can increase the chances that an event may turn violent. That is one interpretation of the article, yes. The article mentions "several instances of violent encounters with the far-right" to represent a statistical majority. There is a another reference to "majority of peaceful individuals" in the 6th paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Colbtron (talkcontribs)

Read more carefully. The sixth paragraph is again differentiating between peaceful protestors and Antifa. Another concern is the misapplication of the label “antifa” to include all counter-protesters, rather than limiting it to those who proactively seek physical confrontations with their perceived fascist adversaries. You misrepresented sources again. Please use Talk:Antifa (United States) to discuss edits you want to add. Schazjmd (talk) 20:32, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Schazjmd:Please be specific on how I "misrepresented sources". All references supported the important context given to the group and their use of violence. Additionally, a reference to Donald Trump's recent tweet about their designation as a terrorist group is clearly topical and appropriate. (Colbtron (talk) 20:47, 31 May 2020 (UTC))Reply

Trump's tweet is already in the article. You added Statistically, Antifa and other left-wing groups are responsible for a relatively small amount of violence compared with right-wing or extremist religious groups and for your source, you cited this document in which the only mention of Antifa is to say The ECDB has not been funded to track far-left (e.g., Anarchists, Antifa, Black Nationalist, Marxists) ideologically motivated violence in the United States. Please read WP:OR and WP:SYNTH. Schazjmd (talk) 20:56, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Signing comments

edit

Hi Colbtron, and welcome to Wikipedia. Please make sure to put your signature at the end of your comments when writing in talk pages. This can be easily done by putting four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message. Wikipedia will then render your signature for you. Thanks! Jaydavidmartin (talk) 21:24, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Jaydavidmartin: I did! Did I miss one? (Colbtron (talk) 21:30, 31 May 2020 (UTC))Reply

Yes, twice on the talk page of Antifa (United States), one of which has a "Preceding unsigned comment" tag and another that is completely unnatributed and authorship has to be assumed by context. We all forget sometimes, but try to double-check after you post. Best, Jaydavidmartin (talk) 08:21, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also since I've noticed on several occasions your signature has been surrounded by parentheses, only the four tildes is needed. Like so: ~~~~. No need for parentheses. And to clarify I'm not saying you've done anything wrong — there's no harm in having parentheses around your signature and I know you may have just been copy-pasting — but just want to make sure you're aware that parentheses are not needed around the tildes. Hope this helps, and wishing you the best in your time editing Wikipedia. Jaydavidmartin (talk) 08:28, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
