Hi Chris. Per your edit comment, is there a standard spelled out somewhere that overrides wp:AT? If so, perhaps wp:NCCAPS needs revision. LeadSongDog come howl! 13:36, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

OTD errors

As I've mentioned before, it would be helpful if, instead of waiting for the OTD page become protected, you look a couple of days ahead and fix these recurring issues yourself. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:57, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

It would be really helpful if the people actually responsible for creating the Main Page items were to look more closely at them before they're posted. All I'm doing is picking up on redirects highlighted by linkclassifier and checking where they go, using popups. It's not an onerous task, unless you're trying to do it singlehanded for every upcoming Main Page item. Colonies Chris (talk) 22:46, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
This is a wiki, we're all responsible. All you need to do is what you're doing but two days ahead. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:36, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
For instance, you could check Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/August for this whole month (or Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/September for next month) in advance. You could then make the changes you keep frequenting ERRORS to report. Wouldn't that be better? For DYK, the next few days are listed at T:DYK/Q. TFA blurbs are here. Likewise TFL stuff is here. In fact, the only part of the main page you can't check in advance is ITN. So please use those links to check for errors instead of waiting for errors to be promoted to the main page. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:01, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
TRM, I see where you're coming from, but OTD is presumably not Chris's main interest (his gnoming is of very large scope). It does seem reasonable that those in charge of migrating OTD to the MP be made aware of the need to do this checking ahead of time themselves, doesn't it? Tony (talk) 00:47, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Another problems is that set creators rotate the blurbs from a library, so one never knows which ones get featured on the MP until they are picked, then they get locked straight away. This means you potentially have to check them all when only a small proportion of the blurbs get picked. -- Ohc ¡digame! 01:34, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps someone should notify those responsible that they need to adopt this new responsibility then? However, that doesn't stop Chris from looking at DYKs, TFAs, TFPs and TFLs well in advance of them being protected. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:49, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
I've alerted OTD people to this thread. Tony (talk) 08:01, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for making this issue more widely known, Tony. It concerns me that I started out occasionally notifying problems I spotted on the Main Page when I logged in each day, but rather than getting any thanks, I end up implicitly criticised for not doing it sooner. It's discouraging - even gnomes like a little appreciation from time to time. As I said, primary responsibility must lie with the creators of the blurbs. It's a small and undemanding task when it's spread around. Colonies Chris (talk) 09:58, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
I just don't understand why you have to wait for it to be protected when most of the issues can be picked up some days or weeks in advance. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:48, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
