Hold Up!

On the "List of radio stations in [US State]" pages, the AWB is actually creating a sentence that reads "the United States state of [state name]". Might want to make sure the AWB isn't creating any other goofs before editing. - NeutralhomerTalk00:16, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of aircraft (C), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Coandă. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

AWB edits on radio stations by state lists

Hey there - seen you around over the years, but I don't think we've had any reason to connect before. So, a quick story...

I took a look at my Watchlist tonight for the first time in about a week-and-a-half, and saw it filled with a series of edits that you did using AWB back on the 30th and 31st to all of the lists of radio stations by state. There's lots of good stuff in there but, unfortunately, you've also introduced more than 850 errors in those pages. It's taken almost six hours to identify them all, and I'll have to swing back to the pages in the morning to start making the corrections.

I'm not sure what the impetus was, but you changed a lot of the licensee names, particularly with regard to the stations that are owned by iHeartMedia. If you'd been adding iHeartMedia as a piped link attached to the licensee name that was there already, there wouldn't have been a problem. But iHeartMedia itself is never the licensee - it's always Capstar or AMFM or Citicasters or the like - and it's the licensee that's listed on those pages, per the explanation on the top of each one.

Also, you regularly changed incidences of the word 'radio' on those pages to all lower-case. That's usually (although not always) appropriate given the other changes you were making to the text of the stations' formats, however it's not appropriate in the names of any of the licensees. As I'm sure you know, you'd generally expect to see legal entity names using title case.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads-up that this had happened, in case there's a setting change you need to make to your AWB so that this doesn't recur once I'm done cleaning it up (I'm on a Mac myself, so I'm not exactly familiar with how AWB works). Mlaffs, thank you for this note. I'll assist with necessary corrections. However, I have a question about licensees. For example, is Citicasters Licenses, Inc. a part of iHeartMedia, or is it a separate company which in some way sells/rents licences to iHeartMedia and other media companies? If it's part of iHeartMedia, it would be easier (and more flexible in the event of further corporate takeovers) to simply redirect it to iHeartMedia, without any piping. (At the moment it's piped to ClearChannel, which is a redirect to iHeartMedia). Only if it's independent, not tied to any one media company, would piping be necessary, as then each case might be different. Colonies Chris (talk) 12:43, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Good point — I'm a little mortified that I didn't think of redirects. There are probably half a dozen licensees, once you take into account some of the inconsistencies in the FCC filings. They're all subs of iHeartMedia; most of them came into the family as a result of hundreds of acquisitions over the years. I've fixed about 3/4 of the state lists already, but I'll set up redirects as I go on the next few and then either of us can go back and hit those ones I've already done again. OK, looks like we're all cleaned up. I saw you did another run to strip out some pipes. AWB introduced a small handful of errors again with the capitalization, but easily fixed, and I think we're good now. Thanks for the help! Mlaffs (talk) 23:22, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Military academy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Khánh Hòa.
