Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 14:49, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hello, I hope everyone reading this is well. My sincerest apologies for making any edits that were interpreted as promoting an organization or group. I am attempting to update information on the Committee for Economic Development page. Although I am affiliated with the organization, I am not making any changes to promote the not-for-profit in any way (and I fully understand why posting anything that could be construed as promotional is banned -- the point here is to update based on new developments, new research, and important changes within organizational leadership). The information currently listed on the page is inaccurate (for example, the President is listed as Bernard Bailey, who left several years ago). I am only trying to post new, correct information about the group, as the page has not been updated for some time (another example -- the research listed under Policy Research is from 2018, I attempted to replace with reports from the last two years instead. Please let me know what steps can be taken to remedy this. I have suggested an alternative username, and will be careful to ensure there are no promotional edits made to the page moving forward.

Decline reason:

Your choice of new username would be acceptable. Please understand that Wikipedia primarily summarizes what independent reliable sources state about a topic, though primary sources are acceptable in some circumstances. Please review conflict of interest and paid editing and explain how your future edits will be consistent with those policies, and also tell us any other topics you might edit about as a general contributor. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 18:06, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello - this is in response to the message from 331dot . Thank you for the additional information. I have carefully reviewed the conflict of interest and paid editing pages, and have a firm understanding of the policies. As an editor with a COI, I will ensure all of my future edits are consistent with these policies. I will disclose my COI on the talk spaces for the pages that I update, and I will request that any edits are peer reviewed by trusted members of the Wikipedia community. Furthermore, I will work carefully to cite references for any facts, statements, or pieces of information so that others can fact-check all claims. Additionally, if that is not allowed, I am open to submitting proposed changes to other editors, using the talk page, with my COI fully disclosed. This solution poses a way to correct the information on the page while limiting my involvement as a paid editor. Above all else, I am committed to the mission of providing fair, unbiased, trusted information; if my account is unblocked, I will follow all policies to ensure the page is updated in a manner that complies with the standards set by the Wikipedia community.

You still make it sound like you don't plan to do anything constructive here that does not relate to the article about your employer. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:38, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Orange Mike. I firmly support the work you and everyone else is doing to monitor Wikipedia pages, and I am excited to join the community of editors working to verify that pages are up to date and accurate. I come from an editing background, and plan to use my skills to carefully copyedit and proof pages for grammatical errors. I also plan to help with fact checking pages in the economic and policy space, given my background in media, policy, and economic work. CommunicationsTCB (talk) 18:51, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hello -- I wanted to follow up to these conversations from last week regarding the blocking of my account. I'm submitting another request to unblock my account, and I'm hopeful that I can resume editing Wikipedia's vast network of information. As I have shared in my earlier posts, I am very aware that my edits to the Committee for Economic Development page violated COI policies. I have carefully read and reviewed the policies associated with a COI, and, if my account were to be restored, I would submit any edits to the page to other editors to review and make final decisions on. All items that I edit will be firmly backed by citations, relevant facts and external links. Peer reviewing is essential, and I will ensure this is the process I follow from here on out. My goal is not to promote the organization in any way -- I am merely trying to update outdated, inaccurate information that is currently listed on the page. I am committed to the overall mission of Wikipedia, and I hope to use my editorial skills to copyedit, factcheck and proof other pages in the economic, policy, and nonprofit spaces. I am excited at the possibility to use my skills to help others access free, vetted information, and I hope to have the chance to do so. I have submitted an alternative username, and if restored, I promise any conflicts of interest will be disclosed, establishing additional transparency in the process. Thanks for your consideration.

Hey, mch115. What we'd want to see at a minimum is:
  1. Any edits about your organization, including the article about it or any about its employees or projects, need to be handled via an edit request, which you can read about at Wikipedia:Edit requests, rather than via direct editing. The exception would be actual libel of a living person, which any editor can remove on sight.
  2. You'll also need to disclose your conflict of interest on your User Page, which is at User:mch115 (if you click on that redlink, you can create that page, or if you'd like me to create it for you, I'm happy to do that). There are directions for posting the disclosure statement at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.
Does that sound okay to you? —valereee (talk) 11:53, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi —valereee, thanks for getting back to me. Yes, this all sounds great. I will put in edit requests for any updates about my organization, and I will disclose my conflict of interest on my user page. It looks like I am still blocked to update that on my user page now, but as soon as my account is unblocked/transferred to my new username I will update the page accordingly. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do. As soon as I have access, I will make these changes. CommunicationsTCB (talk) 19:36, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Orange Mike, do you have any objection to me unblocking so this person can request the rename and work under these limitations? —valereee (talk) 20:02, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
None, Valereee. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:19, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Orange Mike and @—valereee, thank you for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CommunicationsTCB (talkcontribs)

Hi @Orange Mike and @—valereee, my rename request was approved but when I try to update my user page, it says I am still blocked. Can this be fixed? Thanks! Mch115 (talk) 20:30, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:36, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
