The term high performance alloys was coined to describe a set of alloys that were used in extreme corrosion, wear, or high temperature environments. Originally it described a set of alloys that included the trade names: Hastelloy, Inconel, Haynes, Monel, Stellite and Incoloy. A sub set of these are also known as superalloys. Since then many alloys have been classified as high performance alloys and now include titanium alloys and super stainless steels.
