One specific piece of advice is to check your edits with "Preview" before publishing the changes. For example, after your edit you will see that the reference was reporting errors. I have corrected the errors by simply removing the stray line feed character. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:50, 27 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm C.Fred. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 01:11, 27 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I know most of us are new to this feature on Wikipedia, when we use the [ reply ] link at the end of a message, it automatically adds your signature at the end so there is no need to type the ~~~~ when using the feature. I've noticed you might have added the ~~~~ on replying to a message on User talk:C.Fred which therefore puts two of your signatures instead of the usual one.   It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence [[:User talk:GdB[edit]]]. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. As they haven’t been around for months it won’t matter, but please don’t do this again. Doug Weller talk 20:23, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bridgeton flood of 1934

edit

Hi you left a contribution in the AfD discussion for this article but your comments seem to be about a different article. Mccapra (talk) 22:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I would like to see the dif of that edit. I am aware that multiple folks trying to debate the flood deletion have landed on Yahwism deletion so maybe some confusion has "washed ashore"(and I beieve I've reached my limit on bad jokes) anyway I think somehow a link to the yahwism deletion discussion got put on the flood page(just a theory tho) Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 01:16, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, List of Orthodox Christians

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, List of Orthodox Christians. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – List of Eastern Orthodox Christians. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of Eastern Orthodox Christians. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Storchy (talk) 14:21, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just go ahead with the deletion I have no objection. I moved an article, someone moved it back but a part of the page just remained. Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 14:30, 10 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Edit regarding Jerome Segal

edit

Hi, I added the intent to run for Jerome Segal on the 2024 Presidential Election page. I would like to know why you believe that this candidacy, a candidate who was a major gubernatorial candidate and a presidential nominee listed on the 2020 presidential election page, one reported by the largest news source of Maryland, is not a notable enough when the Howard Stern candidacy, also reported by the largest news source of a state, is notable enough to place under "intent to run." 1adp23 (talk) 17:17, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Thank you for this question. First I want to say that my putting of Stern's candidacy is of no importance in this discussion. Secondly this should be handled on the talk page, however for the time being we can handle this matter here. Thirdly why did you re-add that guy and ask me you should have waited a reasonable amount of time for my response before re-adding him. Thirdly you lied about Mr. Segal being on the 2020 page this is what it looked like when you made the comment. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2020_United_States_presidential_election&diff=1099470039&oldid=1099359653 You lack of honesty is not welcomed. In regards to Mr. Segal's lack of notability the man didn't even one percent of the vote. Also there are no requirements to be listed as a canadite for govorner however there are for president or else wikipedia's candidate list would look like this https://ballotpedia.org/List_of_registered_2024_presidential_candidates Jerome is simply to low profile too be considered  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  19:28, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

You are too new and too inexperienced to be warning long-term editors about behavioral issues

edit

There are norms of behavior here that you simply haven't experienced yet. Due to this lack of experience, your warnings are likely to be incorrect and cause ill will. A good example is your recent warning to Praxidicae. Please don't do stuff like that. --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:58, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also, I agree your signature is unreadable with that color scheme. --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:59, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Floquenbeam@Ohnoitsjamie They don’t even understand that it’s not okay to call someone a liar. You can say that they are mistaken but not that they are a liar. Doug Weller talk 20:42, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Doug Weller I never called anyone a liar. I said that dishonesty is unwelcome, but that is different from calling them a liar. In the future I will just say what a person said was "incorrect".  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  20:55, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good, but “ you lied about Mr. Segal” is calling someone a liar. Doug Weller talk 21:06, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
a lie can be unintentional, and i assumed that false statement was unintentional.  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  21:08, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Floquenbeam what is the Wikipedia policy that says that a editor that is just starting out can not point out to another editor who is doing something against the rules.  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  21:02, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
What specific rule are you alleging was broken? Cite it with a link. —C.Fred (talk) 21:06, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I did when I gave out the removed warnings but that edit was reverted. I will happily send you to WP:NOTFB  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  21:10, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
And I don't see where that applies at all to the conversation that you warned them about. What I do see is a sidebar that was taken to a talk page from some other location. It's perfectly appropriate use of a talk page. And that is what Floquenbeam is referring to: you don't have the experience to appreciate what was happening and why it is suitable.
My first quarter of college, in ICS 1410, the instructor told us never to use a GOTO command when programming. In ICS 1700, the instructor said, now that you know the principles of programming, I'll teach you when you can use a GOTO command. The analogy applies here: it may appear to go against guidelines on the surface, but once a user understands more of the behavioural norms, they realize it's acceptable. —C.Fred (talk) 21:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I suspect this is a rhetorical question, and that you know that there is no policy that says this in so many words. However, we do have policies regarding disruption caused by incompetence. What Praxidicae and Bbb23 were doing was not against the rules. Not even close. This error, if repeated, is functionally indistinguishable from trolling. It is especially annoying because, when I look into your previous interactions with Praxidicae, it seems obvious that you went hunting thru her contributions looking for things to complain about. While inexperienced new editors acting in good faith should be treated with kid gloves for a while, inexperienced new editors acting in bad faith will be shown the door fairly quickly. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:10, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
First of all you just violated WP:Goodfaith. I was not looking for things to complain about. If you look at what happened on July 9th they reverted my edit I asked them why, asked clarifying questions, and let it go. Then I was doing more regular work and they reverted an edit on a unrelated page so I asked them about that also, and again asked clarifying questions. Also This is not the first time I called editors out who were way more experienced them me. He is another time I did that Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yahwism  User:Cosmictoilet(talk)  21:17, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Your description of your interaction with Praxidicae doesn't prove your point? And the link to that AFD doesn't seem to either? Odd. Anyway, I haven't made myself clear. I am one of the admins on this site, and I will block you from editing if you keep doing stuff like that. I'm not looking for a long discussion, I'm giving a clear warning. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you get back, please change your signature; it violates MOS:COLOR and is practically illegible even to users with moderately good eyesight. Thank you. Hey Floquenbeam, nice to see you! Drmies (talk) 01:14, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
