Sunday July 9, 1-6pm: WikNYC Picnic

You are invited to join us the "picnic anyone can edit" on New York City's green and historic Governors Island, as part of the Great American Wiknic celebrations being held across the USA. Remember it's a wiki-picnic, which means potluck.

1–6pm - come by any time! Our reserved picnicking area is Grill #5 by Nolan Park in the northern part of Governors Island.
Look for us by the Wikipedia / Wikimedia NYC banner!

We hope to see you there! --Pharos (talk) 11:02, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Sunday July 30: Action=History Wiki-Hackathon @ Ace Hotel

Sunday July 30: Action=History Wiki-Hackathon @ Ace Hotel

On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history.

For this month, we'll focus on Wikipedia casual editing, ways to use and develop Wikidata, building better edit-a-thon tools for a variety of different thematic campaigns, and user-testing them with the community. Towards a goal of advancing these tools for wider use with diverse local groups.

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 14:21, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Deletion review for Viaden Media

ELindas has asked for a deletion review of Viaden Media. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. —Cryptic 15:45, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Given it has been six years, I wouldn't object to unsalting, but that draft looks like another AFD waiting to happen. Courcelles (talk) 16:13, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Revision deletion

Could you please delete [29] revision? It contains filthy language and personal attacks.--User:Tomcat7 (talk) 17:17, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

That doesn't look like the revision you meant to link? Courcelles (talk) 17:51, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
(tps) I'm not a native speaker, but that Russian text being removed in that diff doesn't look too complementary. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:57, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

added another sock

On the FXCM SPI Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gouyoku. It's an IP that geolocates to the company involved. Smallbones(smalltalk) 01:41, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

And he did it again. I put both links in the SPI. Delta Q closed the SPI without addressing the new sock. Would you semi-protect the FXCM article if it's vandalized again? Thanks. Smallbones(smalltalk) 00:07, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Semi'ed indefinitely. Courcelles (talk) 01:06, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 September newsletter

Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to Peacemaker67 on the Royal Yugoslav Navy Good Topic of 36 items, and the 12 featured articles achieved by Cas Liber (5), Vanamonde93 (3), Peacemaker67 (2), Adityavagarwal (1) and 12george1 (1). With a FA scoring 200 points, and bonus points available on top of this, FAs are likely to feature heavily in the final round. Meanwhile Yellow Evan, a typhoon specialist, was contributing 12 DYKs and 10 GAs, while Adityavagarwal and Freikorp topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best man (or woman) win! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

For the Anti-harassment tools team, SPoore (WMF), Community Advocate, Community health initiative (talk) 19:52, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Re-creation of "Wikipedia:Is Not"

I found that "Wikipedia:Is Not" and "Wikipedia:Is not" were re-created years after you deleted them in 2010 per RfD discussion. What can be done about these redirects? --George Ho (talk) 20:18, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Given it has been seven years? Send them back to RFD. I wouldn't delete these today based on that little discussion. Courcelles (talk) 00:18, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

SPI, sorry is Bobby Martnen, not Kauffner

Thanks for doing range check on Kauffner SPI, but unfortunately now certain from today's edits that sock's first edits misdirected to the wrong sockmaster. It was the other one Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bobby Martnen, the history of which is lacking recent edits on 107.77.209.140 which confirm identity. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:11, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

No worries, I'll go in and edit the archives with this diff. Courcelles (talk) 19:55, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/DisgrunrledGrunt

"There's proxy use going on here"--is that difficult? Is it likely that a simple COI edit and then sour-grapes retaliation would involve proxy editing? I thought of this user as a simple case of someone carrying a grudge, and if proxying is easy that may still be the case. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

@Drmies: By "proxy use" I meant literally open proxy IPs, not proxying as in person A doing one thing and person B doing another for person A. And, yeah, getting a proxy is simple with a little technical know-how. Courcelles (talk) 19:54, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, I know what you meant, I just didn't know how easy it was. 'preciate it Courcelles. Drmies (talk) 20:11, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
