request FLC review

Please give me a review for U.S. state reptiles. TCO (talk) 05:57, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

You're actually in fairly good shape for a youthful FLC (Sorry to say, a fortnight isn't even to the backlog in this process thesedays). Chase down the reviewers who haven't been back, and I'll take a look if it looks like you need it. It'll also help you once someone makes a promotion run at FLC, we've got quite a few with 3 or 4 supports that look as if they could be closed off, and a shorter WP:FLC page helps attract reviewers. (Long-winded way of saying you're nowhere near panic time yet :) Courcelles 06:10, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank

For semi-pp on Yiwu and Yiwu market. I'm not a huge fan of long term semi-pp, articles like that generally grow slowly by casual users, but I'm even less of a fan of blocking the same spam several times a week. So, thanks. SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 04:14, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Hopefully the issues won't reappear in May... Courcelles 06:00, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Looks like the article would benefit from more sources, compliance with the manual of style, and some copyediting. Really may not be that hard to get it to WP:GA standard, all things considered, but it'll all start with finding the sources. Courcelles 20:43, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'm awfully sorry about that. I was looking on my watchlist and had meant to click on something else and my mouse slipped. compleatly accidental, I apologize. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 22:11, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

No problem. My watchlist was showing only the revert for a few moments (server lag again?) Was... rather surprising to see a simple clerical edit rolled back, sorry for saying anything. Courcelles 22:21, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

River City Wrestling page deletion

Just curious as to why the River City Wrestling page was deleted, but yet several independent organizations exist on Wikipedia. RCW is one of the better promotions in Texas, has had guys make it to WWE and TNA, brought in big name talent, probably one of the best drawing in the state, and has appeared in multiple news outlets (wrestling and otherwise).

I've looked up other organizations, and they have a single source which is their web site, and are a lot less notable.

Thank you for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brandonoliver (talkcontribs) 22:28, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Wow, nine months ago, no wonder I didn't remember it. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/River City Wrestling for why it was deleted. Other articles may well need to be deleted, but that they exist (for now) is not a reason to keep this particular article around. Courcelles 22:38, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

American actors of Slovak descent error

Hi there, you closed Category:American actors of Slovak descent and upmerged it last month, but it seems that it was not actually deleted.--TM 01:32, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Look at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 February 4, it was never actually nominated, either, despite the CFD tag making it into the article... The tag should be removed and it actually listed at CFD. Courcelles 01:40, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Oh, strange.--TM 02:01, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

FLC review, if you have time

If you have a few spare minutes, could you pop over to Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration/archive1? I'm a bit anxious about whether it will have enough reviews. Thanks, Adabow (talk · contribs) 06:38, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Sure thing, I'll try to get to it today. Courcelles 07:37, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I unblocked this account, as I shouldn't have listed them as a match. Sorry for the mix-up (and thanks for responding so quickly!). TNXMan 16:44, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Okay, there's my mess up for the month. I'll go and hide now. Courcelles 16:45, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
It's not your mess-up, it's mine. I'll take the fall for this one and you don't have to hide. By the way, good luck on the AUSC process! TNXMan 16:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. It feels just like RFA all over again... Courcelles 10:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Anne Hathaway

This just popped up on my watchlist, and I see that the IP has unsuccessfully attempted to add it twice. Is there some history behind this edit? Is it controversial for some reason? It appears to be properly sourced, but I haven't read each one. Please give me some info here. -- Brangifer (talk) 23:32, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Look further down the article, at 5.1 in the table of contents. The IP tried to remove that section, and, when reverted, decided to turn to actual disruption by adding a cut and paste of the section to the top of the article. Courcelles 23:35, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Bizarre! Thanks for the explanation. -- Brangifer (talk) 05:26, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

SA

Would you please explain why SA's page does not warrant an indef blocked template? ATren (talk) 02:39, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

I likely could, if I knew who SA was... Courcelles 06:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

At the time, I was 80% sure that Tim's indef block wouldn't stick, and, indeed, it did not. Now that he's used a puppet to get around a year block, slap a sockpuppeter tag on there, I really couldn't care less- though NW likely would. Courcelles 11:04, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Personal communication details??

Hi again Courcelles! Sorry to bother you, but I have a question regarding something. As a part of the renovation of an article ("Irresistible (Jessica Simpson song)"), I sent an email to its music video director Simon Brand, asking him about the details of the video shoot—where and when. He replied, and I added the information to the article as "personal communication through e-mail". But, when I asked others if it was okay, they said cannot be verified, and so is not reliable. And, they suggested me of OTRS. Would OTRS help in anyway? I mean, I still have the mail in my inbox, and if I forward that to the OTRS team, can you help me out? I think if it is verified, I can add that information (with ticket number as "title" and the ticket url as "url"). Sorry for such a big question. Novice7 (talk) 09:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Gosh, I don't know if that has ever even come up. I'm 99% sure OTRS is not able to help here, but I'll pose the question to our mailing list just to be sure. Even if we could somehow verify the communication, WP:V and WP:RS would still be major problems. Courcelles 09:52, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I haven't added it to the article yet. By the way, here's a screenshot of the e-mail. I removed our ids. Thank you for going through my question. Novice7 (talk) 10:12, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
The mailing list confirmed what I already knew and said. This is not smethign OTRS can help with, WP:NOT#OR was pointed out by someone as particularly relevant. Courcelles 11:02, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into this. I won't add it to the article. Thanks again. Novice7 (talk) 11:17, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Understanding image/sound file (description) deletion

I see you deleted some of the Brandenburg files. I was watching to see who would delete them, because I was not quite following what was happening and wanted to ask.

I think your edit summary cleared up the confusion, but I'd like to be sure.

I saw a CSD for a file, but the file was form Commons. Clearly we shouldn't and presumably cannot delete commons files from within WP. I think I now realize that the request wasn't to delete the sound file itself, but to delete the description of the file, which resided on WP.

However, I'm still a little puzzled. IIRC, the delete rationale was that the file failed to achieve Featured sound criteria. However, I am not following why this would be relevant. I would think we would generally expect that files on Commons would have file descriptions on Commons, and not on WP. Are there situations where a description is in both places? If so why? And what does the status of "Featured" have to do with the decision?

Here's hoping you can fill in some of the gaps in my image/sound file knowledge. I have noticed a number of such examples in the CSD list, and I've shied away from them. I want to help out more, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing.--SPhilbrickT 18:56, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

I'll walk one example through the local history, and maybe that'll explain what's going on. First, an enwiki sysop cannot delete anything from Commons, though we can hide a file using the reuploadshared right. That's irrelevant to this situation, though. Example, File:Bach - Brandenburg Concerto 6 - 1. Allegro.ogg. This had no enwiki page from the Commons upload of 23 November 2008 until 22:33, 6 March 2011 when Major Bloodnok created the page with {{FSC}}. This FSC closed today, so instead of removing the FSC tag and leaving us with a completely blank enwiki page, Adam Cuerden tagged it for speedy deletion. The technical criteria here is F2, as the file is on Commons, and there is nothing worth saving on the enwiki page- indeed, it would have been left completely blank if not deleted locally, and we don't keep empty pages locally for Commons files. (Though on rare occasions we do categorise Commons images locally.) Also, remember that whatever someone puts on a local file description page, the description Commonsside will still be shown underneath the local content, unless a sysop uploads the file locally. Courcelles 19:08, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
OK, I think I'm getting it. The underlying sound file was an d still is on Commons, as is a descriptions. So anyone can use it in an article where appropriate. However, had the sound met the FSC, then we want the WP article using the file to acknowledge the status. So if someone clicks on the file included in a WP article, they will see that it is a featured sound. If that same file is included in a say, a German article, they can hear the sound, but they won't know it is a enwiki Featured sound. Thanks.--SPhilbrickT 20:49, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, you've pretty much got it. Courcelles 22:31, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Jim Tressel

The article has been vandalized by 'IP editors' a few times since the recent suspension was announced of the Buckeyes Coach. I'm requesting page protection for a month or two until this blows over (or dies down anyway). Thank you. Ryecatcher773 (talk) 01:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Five days ago, I'd have protected it no problems, but now there has only been one bad edit in six days, and that's not really enough. Tressel, can, however, join a whole lot of other BLP's on my watchlist, and I'll protect it if the problems continue. Courcelles 10:02, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Roger that. Thank you. Ryecatcher773 (talk) 07:05, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Some help

Hi Courcelles, since you've done some work there before, and because you are experienced with userright grantings, I was wondering if you could give me some help on the autopatrolled lists, please? I'd rather not have to ask for help (and I have put off asking anyone for it until now), but recently, I've pretty much been the only admin doing the work there heavily, and a page or two done by another admin would reduce the workload considerably. I know it's technically marked as a low priority task, but I would like to get it done, and there are only ten pages left. Don't worry...I won't hold anything against you nor will I be disappointed if you decline! (It is slow and can be tedious work, after all.) Best. Acalamari 11:37, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

I'll try to take a look at a page or two today. Courcelles 12:48, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for semi-protect

Hi Courcelles! I just wanted to thank you for semi-protecting our Jane Corwin article, just now, and to express my appreciation more broadly, too, for the extraordinary amount of work I know you do here to keep all the wheels turning smoothly. The place would become impossible to contribute to productively without the work you and others like you do here, and our content would become junk, as well, without that effort. Thanks so much for your dedication to this extraordinary project; I'm very grateful. Cheers,  – OhioStandard (talk) 19:25, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Always happy to lend a hand where I can. Courcelles 20:35, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
