"Jacques Cohen 2"
editI have deleted this redirect page, because it would not be helpful. Anyone searching for him and typing "Jacques Cohen" into the search box will see a drop-down menu offering both Jacques Cohen and Jacques Cohen (computer scientist). At that point a third entry in the drop-down menu for "Jacques Cohen 2" would only be confusing. If the reader clicks on the first, but is really looking for the second, there is a "hatnote" at the head of the first article saying "For the computer scientist, see Jacques Cohen (computer scientist)." Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:09, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi, you've added a substantial amount of content over the course of many months to a biographical article--as far as I can tell, you haven't provided a source, let alone inline citations, for any of it. Please read WP:BLP and WP:RELIABLE regarding encyclopedic policies; without proper references, content can be removed, and this is particularly important when applied to biographies. Thank you, 2601:188:0:ABE6:E94C:A472:C0DB:68EA (talk) 01:57, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Hello, Courtneypinamiller. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
- instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. 2601:188:0:ABE6:E94C:A472:C0DB:68EA (talk) 02:20, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that you don't seem to have taken the above to heart, and am asking for further assistance from other editors. Again, please include reliable sources for all content you add to Wikipedia. 2601:188:0:ABE6:E94C:A472:C0DB:68EA (talk) 02:20, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Does this user know they have a talkpage? Blocking to get their attention
editHello, Courtneypinamiller, and hi, 2601:188:0:ABE6:E94C:A472:C0DB:68EA, or "99" (I noticed your description of this problem on Drmies's page). I think the user may be unaware of the warnings, rathert than deliberately ignoring them. Looking at their contributions, I see no sign they're aware they have a talkpage. They have never edited it, nor any other talkpage — it looks like the whole concept is unknown to them. (Incidentally also the concept of edit summaries.) I really don't like blocking good-faith editors, as I take this user to be, but if they don't receive warnings, I guess it's the only way to get their attention. Courtneypinamiller, if and when you find this page, you have been blocked from editing for ignoring all advice and warnings. I suspect you simply haven't found them, or this page — your own "talkpage" — yet. Please respond below this post to the warnings etc, and you will be unblocked. Hi--Yes, I was not aware of this function nor am I familiar with Wikipedia editing (this is the first time I've ever tried to). May I please delete the page entirely? Also--thank you for being so kind. I looked at some of the other things said about me on these pages and people are quite harsh. I no longer want to be associated with this page and will be deleting my account because this does not seem to be a welcoming community, especially to people who are obviously new and unfamiliar with Wikipedia etiquette. Again, can you please remove the page or unblock me so that I can remove it? Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Courtneypinamiller (talk • contribs)
- Courtneypinamiller, I'm afraid I can't delete Jacques Cohen (computer scientist) on your request. You didn't create it in 2013 (unless the account User:Rgibson.archaeo is also yours?), and many other people have contributed to it since then. You can click on the tab "History" at the article to see all the contributions: here they are. Clicking on the "prev" button against a particular contribution will show you the contribution itself. Also, as the trolling IP that I have moved down said, the subject is notable.
- I'm sorry you feel you've been badly treated. Wikipedia suffers from the fact that a lot of people try to use it to promote themselves and/or their businesses, and we try to get anybody whose writing seems promotional to disclose any external interest they have in the subject. We do it in self-defense, to keep the encyclopedia neutral, but I can understand it looks unkind, especially when you discover all the different complaints at once.
- Text that you have submitted to Wikipedia isn't yours to remove, I'm afraid. However, some of it has already been removed as unsourced and promotional. For instance, you can see here how User:Drmies removes most of the edits you made in May.
- Some of what you added about the biography and the early and late career in August 2015 (you can see exactly what it was here) has been pruned and changed, but a good deal of it is still there. Won't you please add some sources to it? I have unblocked you. Welcome to Wikipedia. Bishonen | talk 15:43, 5 May 2016 (UTC).
Moving anonymous comment down, because why confuse the user further?
edit- Courtneypinamiller, the subject is notable, so we can't just delete the page. Bishonen, I am sure, will be happy to rewrite it completely--I understand they are heavily invested in computer science. 207.93.13.145 (talk) 14:51, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- Who are you? Please don't troll here. Bishonen | talk 15:43, 5 May 2016 (UTC).
