editDisambiguation link notification for July 12
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Norm Sartorius, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Museum of Fine Arts and WHYY. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

- Hi Craig, thanks for understanding. I appreciate that guidelines and expectations can be a little opaque for newcomers! In response to some of your particular comments:
- If you have email permission for the images with a specific release under a Creative Commons license, that's fantastic- please follow the instructions here so that Wikimedia has evidence of the release.
- You said "For several statements, I was closely reflecting what was said in the reference. So for example, "He places pieces within sight...[38]," "He acts quickly...[39]," "He reacts to the virtues of each piece..., " followed by the quote [37], etc. Should I reflect these statements more, like "He has stated that...," "It has been noted that he...," or such?" Yes, the suggestion sounds reasonable. Basically, we should not be stating contentious judgements in Wikipedia's "neutral" voice, but rather report that others have made such judgements or claims. "Art critic John Smith has argued..."; "Sartorious describes his own style as..."- that sort of thing. Be aware of weasel words, though. It can be tricky to get right, and I don't pretend to be a perfect writer myself!
- With regards to the contents list, I was referring to your use of {{TOC left}}. This is non-standard, and I would avoid it unless there's some overriding reason I've missed.
- I appreciate the desire to find good model articles and others working in the area. I confess I'm something of a philistine when it comes to contemporary visual art, but we do have a good visual arts WikiProject. I've not worked closely with any of them, but I know that Iridescent (talk · contribs), Ceoil (talk · contribs), Modernist (talk · contribs) and Victoriaearle (talk · contribs) have written some very high quality articles on paintings/painters, and so may have some interest in sculpture; at the very least, they may be able to help you find others who do. We have some biographies at Wikipedia:Featured articles#Art, architecture, and archaeology biographies- as I'm sure you know, featured articles have been recognised as some of Wikipedia's finest. Some more-or-less contemporary artists in that list include Danie Mellor (a sculptor!), Daisy Jugadai Napaltjarri, Wintjiya Napaltjarri, Makinti Napanangka, Bronwyn Oliver (also a sculptor), Minnie Pwerle, Constance Stokes, Bronwyn Bancroft and Jean Bellette. All/most of these articles are by Hamiltonstone (talk · contribs); though this user's interests seem to differ a little from yours, they may be a very good person to talk to.
- I think you're right that exhibition lists have a place in the article; I just think care needs to be taken not to make them look to spammy/CV-like. Editors more familiar with the expectations of fine art articles may be able to advise you better in this regard.
- I hope this is helpful- again, I applaud you for taking on this topic, and editors with niche interests/expertise are always welcome on Wikipedia- you just need a little practice on formatting things in accordance with Wikipedia's expectations. Please do contact me if I can be of any help. Josh Milburn (talk) 09:17, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- I echo what J Milburn says. This is an interesting article on a topic that generally doesn't get a lot of coverage from the press, and I'd love to see it as TFA to coincide with next year's Spoonfest. However, the current tone of the article is quite chatty, and gives a slight impression of advertorial. Relatively niche artists are always tricky to write about, because they don't tend to get bad press; people either admire their work and write positively about them, or dislike their work and ignore them. Since Wikipedia's job is to reflect sources, it can sometimes be quite hard to stick to the "then he did this", "then he did that" style demanded by WP:NPOV without getting boring.
- Has any woodworking or collectors magazine given him bad reviews? If so, what were their criticisms of him? (When it comes to artists, what people dislike about their work is generally at least as important as what people admire.) Has anyone ever written on how his methods and his creations differ from those of other woodworkers; the Artistic approach and influences section as it stands could describe virtually any woodcarver? There's been something of a renaissance in hand-carved spoons in the last decade; do the current crop of celebrity spoon-makers such as Barn Carder (redlink? really?) see Sartorius as a pioneer and mentor, or as an outdated survivor of an earlier movement?
- On exhibition lists, I agree they can be useful as a way of demonstrating that someone has attracted interest from a broad range of institutions, but if presented in list form can look rather promotional. It would probably be more sensible to have a sentence like "His work has been exhibited at over 50 major craft shows and exhibitions across the United States, including shows at the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art", in place of the lists; very few people are really going to care about the specific institutions or the names of the exhibitions. – iridescent 14:08, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Deletion pending for File:NormSartoriusHomage2.jpg
editHello, Craiger19. Some time ago, a file you uploaded — File:NormSartoriusHomage2.jpg — was tagged with {{OTRS pending}}, indicating that you (or perhaps the copyright holder if you did not create this image) submitted a statement of permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Though there is often a backlog processing messages received at this address, we should have received your message by now.
- If you have not submitted (or forwarded) a statement of permission, please send it immediately to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.
- If you have already sent this message, it is possible that there was a problem receiving it. Please re-send it to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the OTRS noticeboard that you have done so.
If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 14:39, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:EmilMilan1980.jpeg
editThanks for uploading File:EmilMilan1980.jpeg, which you've attributed to Leighton Johnson. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. The file File:Zebrabowl.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
The file summary states that the photo was taken by C. Edelbrock; however, the license used on the file claims that the uploader is the copyright holder of the work. The uploader of the file was Craiger19, who has had copyright violations of the English Wikipedia in the past (see User talk:Craiger19).
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Daylen (talk) 02:43, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
