Craig Marshall Smith (October 27, 1947) is an American painter. His work is associated with abstract expressionism.

Biography

Craig Marshall Smith was born on October 27, 1947 in Flint, Michigan. His family moved frequently, from Michigan to Pennsylvania to California to Ohio. From the age of five, Smith was continually drawing, and became an award-winning high school cartoonist.

He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied with Richard Diebenkorn, Robert Heinecken, R. B. Kitaj, and Jan Stussy. He received both BA and MFA degrees from UCLA.

Smith taught drawing at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Arizona State University, and Metropolitan State University of Denver, before retiring in 2003.

His paintings are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado, the Kirkland Museum in Denver, Colorado, the University of Denver, the University of Colorado, and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.

Smith currently lives in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
