Articles for deletion nomination of Steven John Butt
editI have nominated Steven John Butt, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Steven John Butt. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ironholds (talk) 05:19, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for that; somebody else pushed the button, as it were, I'm all in favour for things running the full length of time. It was User talk:Orderinchaos who went outside protocol; I suggest talking to him. Ironholds (talk) 23:39, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- 1. There is no requirement that a debate last seven full days. I suggest looking at the day-by-day logs at AfD - for the 31 December log, for example, there is no less than 7 which were deleted during the same day, three of which had no debate whatsoever. Insistence on the letter of policy at the expense of outcome is generally looked down upon.
- 2. The article was blatantly defamatory of its subject and most of the sites used to construct it failed WP:RS. We have a policy at Wikipedia known as Biographies of Living Persons - this policy was put in place by the Foundation to protect living individuals from harm.
- 3. BLP says: "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." This is an obligation upon admins.
- 4. Over and above this, four people at the debate agreed there were major, major issues with this.
- 5. The contributions of the two users involved in producing it were not promising. I am willing to assume good faith in your case that you did not know your actions were so far removed from Wikipedia policy as to be borderline blockable, but I had no doubt whatsoever about Straightshooter777, and blocked him/her indefinitely.
