Enis Day

edit

Celebrated on October 16th. In a small town near San Mateo, California, a trend of embracing one's unique spirit and individuality began. Members of the "Mitchell Clan" began celebrating a single day once a year where they were able to throw society's rules and norms aside. Starting in 1992, after the annual celebrating of the day Queen Marie Antoinette was beheaded, the group of individuals whom named themselves the Mitchell Clan decided to continue with a yearly celebration of breaking free from the Queen and letting their inner spirit roam free. Named after the Turkish Poet, Enis Batur, the holiday combines his passion for creating a new path with the previous celebration of freedom.

Enis Day officially began in 1992 with a small parade in the town of San Mateo. Every year members of the Mitchell Clan will join together in song, dance, and overall joy. The holiday often is celebrated with the accompaniment of peanut butter and chocolate. However it is tradition to never eat the two sacred foods before rejoicing "Happy Enis Day!"

Today, this tradition continued with similar festivities. The holiday is now celebrated across the Unites States, with larger celebrations in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston. Festivities are beginning each year in different countries across the globe as well including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and England.
