Address

edit

This appears to be a false alarm. The address is just missing an "X" in the IMED listing. According to these references, the address is "LU1 3XD"

69-71 Latimer Road Luton LU1 3XD Bedfordshire United Kingdom

Yes, I'm capable of working that out for myself, thank you very much. However, that there were two transcription errors in the transfer of the address from the UK campus to IMED does suggest that someone somewhere in the chain of organisations involved in passing that address information has some very lax office staff, and that does not instil confidence in the quality of administration. In my opinion, if any of the organisations in that chain has lax administration, it devalues the entry in IMED! DMcMPO11AAUK/Talk/Contribs 19:37, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, You seem to be a SPA purely for the function of editing this talk page, and I will consider your comments in light of that. DMcMPO11AAUK/Talk/Contribs 19:37, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

U.S.

edit

Minor suggestion to add "disapproved", because some states have lists that explicity disapproved schools, and SCIMD-COM is not on those either.

Other states may maintain a list of approved/disapproved educational establishments or qualifications which does not include SCIMD-COM or the qualification it awards.

Vitaminsadek 12:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I thought about this, and decided it was better to remove the comment about other states from the list. Perhaps what is required is a "Medical Licensing (United States)" article that summarises the medical licensing regulations on a state by state basis, without referencing any named colleges or universities at all, and which could be referenced from articles such as this. Then it would be possible to include a wikilink to that article with the text "Main Article: Medical Licensing (United States)", note that I do not believe that doing so would justify the removal of the US state references from this article that appear to specifically reference the college. Companies House

edit

Are you checking the corporation "iba mar diop college of medicine"? Because when I check that on companies house, I get the same address that is on IMED. I think it is best to go by IMED addresses, since that lists the academic facility. Companies house is for companies, and company internal infrastructure can change all the time. Hence the reason I suggested that "establishment" of an educational facility is not the same as "establishment" of a company (regarding the infobox). A more accurate description for the infobox would be "year instruction began" as noted on IMED.Buzybeez 18:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am checking current and dissolved names for the full search term quoted in my reference. DMcMPO11AAUK/Talk/Contribs 19:08, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
try "iba mar diop college of medicine" or the company number 06355453, and the latimer road address should appear. It did for me. Buzybeez 19:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, so another name change? You know, there are medical schools in the UK that are older than the USA who change their names less frequently than this outfit, although I note that neither Oxford University / John Radcliffe nor Cambridge University / Addenbrookes (possibly the oldest two in the UK) have made it onto the ASIC list yet. Yes it is difficult to fit together random puzzle pieces and make sense of it, since we don't really have all the facts and are just depending on whatever happens to be published online. That's why I trust websites like IMED when gathering information about an academic facility. (Almost everything else becomes tangential). Buzybeez 15:29, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Medical Schools Council list of Medical Schools in East Anglia

edit

Is it really expected for SCIMD to be listed there? Since it is a Senegalese college I wouldn't think it would be included in that list. Buzybeez 15:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Additional information

edit

Information which may be relevant to the article, but which is not suitable in its current form!

  • The Luton, UK address given in IMED (Latiner Road, Luton) can not be found on Google Maps, and the UK Postcode given (LU1 3D) is not a valid UK Postcode (second group should be digit + 2 letters). Google maps search "latiner road, luton, uk" A UK Post Office Postcode Search suggests "Latimer Road", and offers "White Knight Design Ltd, Bishops Court Yard 69-71, Latimer Road, LUTON, LU1 3XD". UK Post Office Postcode Search (but companies house has white knight design limited at an address in Stevenage, Herts). Two simple clerical errors in the transfer of an address from the UK to Senegal campuses, thence to the Senegalese Government and from there to IMED are disquieting and may be suggestive of lax standards in one or more of the organisations involved. Google maps satellite / aerial photography suggests that Latimer Road is an industrial complex!
  • Companies House registration gives an address of 14 Langham House, Mill Street, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 2NA, PostCode search on this address suggests that it may be a private residence. Other searches (google, altavista) suggest that Langham House may be a mix of residential and commercial premises.
  • College website gives news on May 15, 2006 of "Official opening of new facilities at Phoenix House in central Luton by Mayor of Luton, Councillor Haji Abid. Teaching begins the following day." - Phoenix House also appears to be in Mill Street, Luton (Google, Altavista), but Royal Mail / Post Office (as well as google and altavista) searches only show a JobCentre at that address. College website seems to have suffered from similar smoke & mirrors as the company registration, it was www.scimd.com, and is now www.stchris.edu. I see that UEIN is www.uein.sn, but em-scimd doesn't seem to have a website of it's own. www.uein.sn also has a "broken" (or maybe it was never there) english section. That's very sloppy for a university website.
