Hi, I work for Paxos and itBit. We wanted to update the wikipedia articles for some of our board members with information about them joining our board but we are very conscious of doing so in an ethical way. I have articles that showcase their board announcements (see below). What's the best way to make these edits without violating the code of conduct?
Thanks so much!

- Hi DOrlando. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for taking the time to find out about the site before editing - you'd be astonished at how many companies don't. There are quite a few things that you need to bear in mind, which I'll explain briefly below, but I'd recommend checking out the various linked pages as well.
- Firstly, as far as Wikipedia is concerned, you have a conflict of interest with regards to Paxos and itBit (see WP:COI). That's not necessarily a problem, but it does mean that the community will tend to frown on you making anything but the most basic grammar and punctuation fixes on articles about those topics. To circumvent this, you can make use of the edit request process (WP:ER) - in brief, this means that you would propose changes on the talkpages of the relevant articles, and use the
{{request edit}}
template to ask other, unconflicted editors to make the changes for you. If you supply sources and couche your requests as you have done above, this is unlikely to be problematic for you. - On any other topics, you needn't be bound by this restriction - so if you happen to have a personal interest in ocelots, for example, you can go ahead and edit articles about them directly.
- Secondly, there are a couple of things concerning your account that you need to be aware of. Firstly, accounts can't be shared (WP:NOSHARE), so if anyone other than yourself has access to this account, you need to change the password (in your preferences) immediately. Secondly, if you're editing as part of your job and getting paid for it, you need to disclose this - WP:PAID will explain how you can do this.
- You can get general help at the Help Desk and slightly friendlier help at the Teahouse, should you need it. Best of luck, Yunshui 雲水 14:12, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
