Userspace request
I'd appreciate it if you could userspace the deleted article American Association of Cat Enthusiasts to User:SMcCandlish/Incubator/American Association of Cat Enthusiasts. I think that's the only major cat breed registry with no article here, and I'm curious if anything at all useful can be made of the deleted stub. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō)ˀ Contribs. 18:32, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Featured writer
Excuse me Dabomb. I am wondering if you can write a Feature for WikiProject Video games' Newsletter? We would like to get someone with an outside perspective to write about their area of expertise and what VG project members should consider when navigating the process. GamerPro64 15:35, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm not really the right person to do this. Try asking for someone at WT:SIGNPOST. Dabomb87 (talk) 17:42, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, we don't want you to write about video games, we would like you to share your expertise(s) with those that write video game articles. I'm sure you've noticed trends and common pitfalls to avoid during your time at FLC. We'd like to pick your brain so that our editors can become more adept at writing quality lists and navigating FLC. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:39, 4 August 2011 (UTC))
IP editors at Marinid dynasty
Relevant information on Ioeth's talk page, whom originally semi-protected the articles Marinid dynasty, Almoravid dynasty, Almohad caliphate and Saadi dynasty. I promoted the first 3 to full protection due to an auto-confirmed editor edit-warring, and the 2 IPs have been reverting each other across some (or all) of those pages. See Special:Contributions/87.217.107.3 and Special:Contributions/78.251.223.62 for evidence. Posting to let you know that it's not just 1 article that recently came off semi/full prot. - Penwhale | dance in the air and follow his steps 09:21, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Dash script run
Can you run that dash script on List of people from Montana (gridiron football) or teach me how? Thanks. PumpkinSky talk 02:51, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- There were no issues with the dashes. If you would like to use the dash script for yourself, just paste
importScript("User:GregU/dashes.js");
into your custom JavaScript file and bypass your cache. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:55, 6 August 2011 (UTC)- I think I'm doing something wrong. I've tried this on several articles and it never changes anything. I see the tab at the top with a dash and click on it. It opens the article in edit mode, I hit save page and nothing has changed. What's wrong? Or did every article I pick have no fixes needed? Can you point me to an article that needs fixes?PumpkinSky talk 15:17, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- Try Stansfield Turner. Dabomb87 (talk) 15:20, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
- Still nothing. When it opens in edit mode does it look like regular edit mode (mine does) or am I supposed to see something different, such as the changes the script made? To me it looks like regular edit mode. PumpkinSky talk 15:26, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

- You should see the changes the script made (show changes mode). I'm not sure what's wrong (could it be your browser?). Anyway, for now, if you need an article to be dashified, just ping me on my talk. Dabomb87 (talk) 15:31, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

Opinion needed about possible band article merger
Hi, Drmies suggested I ask you and a couple others about this: I think that we should probably merge the articles on Shaman (Finnish band) and Korpiklaani, and have the resultant article take a chronological view of the two styles/names. I've started a new section at Talk:Korpiklaani#New merger discussion. Would you please take a look and comment? Thanks! LadyofShalott 12:18, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Dabomb. Can we use a different image for Numerical weather prediction's blurb? The current image is from a ocean wave model, which uses NWP data, but is not the best example of NWP per se. Maybe something like File:GFS 850 MB.PNG or File:AtmosphericModelSchematic.png would be better? Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 20:45, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Tropic Thunder
I saw that the article was set up to be the article of the day on the 13th. I was just curious if someone nominated it at TFA/requests or if was approved some other way? I figured I wouldn't have a chance of getting it as a TFA until at least the 5-year anniversary! I'll be going through the article and updating any data, fixing links, and performing maintenance prior to the posting on the main page. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talk • contrib) 00:57, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- No, it wasn't requested at WP:TFAR, I just decided to run it. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:18, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Works for me. Thanks for scheduling it on a Saturday. The last two TFAs I've had, I've been at work and didn't have a chance to revert vandalism to the articles. Apple cart unstable at Cockatoo
Hi, I discovered a major new study on classification of cockatoos has either just been or about to be published. Some other editors are discussing at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Birds#Cockatoo_fun. The other nominator is concerned and would like more time to sort this out. I think delaying the mainpage appearance is prudent. Sorry.....Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:18, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

- I mostly prefer politicians who are safely dead. My few living subjects have, I have gathered, not been terribly happy at their articles (I think Antonin Scalia vetoed the Supreme Court's release of photographs, in any event they became notably less cooperative after checking with "chambers". And Vicki Cole, as she once was,of "Bring Us Together" expired fame was very sarcastic with me when I offered her the pictures I had gotten from the Nixon Library. Oh well.) To business, not sure you noticed my reply to your comment on my talk here; nominators are not instructed to adjust the summary chart. Some do, some don't. I think the rationale for the instruction (I'd have to poke through the archives to be sure) was fear of having the chart screwed up. Obviously if you feel there's a problem, it might be wise to reconsider. Screwups like Casliber's cause us momentary amusement because it's a well-known editor, and he is not going to take offense (I hope!), but I can see that if it was someone else, we could have a flareup. On balance, I'd ask nominators to adjust the chart, recognizing they may do so badly from time to time. That way, if we see a flareup, at least it will be because someone didn't follow instructions (their fault) instead of because of instructions being followed (our fault, in some editors eyes).--Wehwalt (talk) 09:28, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- My comment was more borne out of temporary frustration than out of desire for change; I don't really mind the current instructions. Even if we did require that nominators update the summary chart, most wouldn't due to forgetfulness or ignorance of the rules, in which case regulars would end up taking care of the chart anyway. I suppose we can change the instructions if it becomes a frequent problem. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:43, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- Time will tell if it does. This page is very resistant to change, which is not a bad thing.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:17, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Em dashes
Sorry to inform you, em-dashes are spaced in normal typography. The only place where this practice is apparently not followed is on Wikipedia, where the blind lead the blind and no one bothers taking a course in typing or "keyboarding" as it is now called, or referring to any of the numerous books on style that have existed for a century before the World Wide Web was invented. There are good technical reasons for this, based on how various browsers handle certain characters for the purposes of line wrapping and visual clarity. — QuicksilverT @ 05:24, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- Dear Hydrargyruml, it's true that some US house styles call for spaced em dashes as sentence interruptors (even newspapers with short columns, amazingly, where wrapping is a big problem); but many Americans use spaced en dashes or unspaced em dashes, both of which are quite common elsewhere. WP has come to the decision that spaced em dashes—in the fonts we use—are just one step too visually disruptive in normal prose; as weill, they are not generally used by a third of English-speakers. It is an international site, isn't it. Tony (talk) 15:15, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Merge request
I was wondering if you could merge Willy Fetzer's edit history into Bill Fetzer history? The discussion can be found here, and is a non-controversial merge. Jrcla2 (talk) 00:46, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- Are you sure that a history merge is needed? You can just do a simple text merge, which requires no admin tools. Dabomb87 (talk) 17:40, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- I did not know that, thanks. I was just making sure that I wasn't copy/pasting, because I know that's not allowed. Since both articles are so short, I can get around to moving the content into Bill Fetzer. Don't worry about the merge, I'll take care of it. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 17:43, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again about this type of thing
Since you're like a guru for FL's RS and have helped me in the past, I thought I might ask again: Are Movie City News (http://moviecitynews.com/) and Awards Daily (http://www.awardsdaily.com/) acceptable sources for FLs? Thanks! Crystal Clear x3 00:33, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- My standard answer applies, as always. Awards Daily doesn't look good, based on their FAQs ("Is Awards Daily owned by any parent company? No. It was built by Sasha Stone, me, who started it as Oscarwatch back in 1999. It later became Awards Daily after she (I) was sued for copyright infringement."), which indicates that it's a site created by a hobbyist. As for Movie City News, I'm not sure about that one; you'll have to do some research of your own. Dabomb87 (talk) 00:46, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding so quickly! All in, I've decided to just replace both with Alt Film Guide. Crystal Clear x3 03:01, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
Why did you close it as unsuccessful? I did everything required on my end in fixing any comments!SaysWhoWhatWhenWhereWhyHow? (talk) 00:42, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
May I ask for it to be open again and be given more time for people to support of oppose it? I read it was Stale nomination but I don't think its fair to close it even if it past the month time issue, especially that no one had his say about it.
– HonorTheKing (talk) 01:01, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- Question: Once it "closes" by the bot, can I nominate it again? I have read the FL rules, and it say once I resolve the issues I can do so (none exists), I don't want to get in trouble for it so can I do so?
– HonorTheKing (talk) 01:20, 21 August 2011 (UTC)- Please wait at least four or five days before re-nominating. Your FLC was just one of many I had to archive due to lack of reviews. There were so many stale FLCs lacking support that reviewers were overburdened and spread thin, meaning that many nominations (including yours) did not receive adequate attention; if I allowed nominators to bring them back again that wouldn't help anything. You can help by doing some FLC reviews yourself, which helps keep the backlog down, increaing the chances that enough reviewers will take a look at any of your future nominations. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 05:08, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you closed it as unsuccessful, given that every issue was resolved. Serendipodous 06:41, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Unprotecting Sanskrit?
I just made various changes to this article. You last semi-protected it, restoring it back to previous semi-protection put in place by Dabachmann some 3 years ago due to a single incident then. I'm not affected by semi-protection but I wonder why we need it at all. Doesn't seem to make sense to keep it indefinitely protected just because of that. Benwing (talk) 09:22, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- That article was part of the pending changes trial. After the trial I restored the article's previous protection settings regardless of what I thought of them. I see that you have asked Dbachmann (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) to unprotect as well; since he was the admin who put in the indef semi-protection, it's best that he decide whether it is still needed or not.
