Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, DanCoutu. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk Abenaki Nation, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. If you are a member of the Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk Abenaki Nation and especially a current or previous member of tribal council, this is a clear conflict of interest. Indigenous girl I think that I need some help with figuring out to write THE COI. I took some time to examine the references that you made but the holidays, family time, and friends dying from covid required my time and attention. While I have some familiarity with wiki markup I’m trill trying to understand how to do things correctly here in Wikipedia. The documentation about the COI is unclear. I have examined the template and have no idea what to do with it. I’m also unclear about where to insert the template. I’m not a dummy but the docs seem to assume some prior knowledge that I don’t yet have. Any help that you can offer is welcome. I’m assuming that the only communication channel that I have with you is through this page. If that’s not true I’m happy to learn more.
Getting started is always the hard part! DanCoutu (talk) 21:52, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
You would want to use the template https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Connected_contributor on the Nulhegan article and possibly the Abenaki article but I am unsure about the latter, I think it would depend on what you are specifically adding/removing. If you are, for example, a member of the Nulhegan legislative branch, you would need to disclose that. I would also suggest, and this is my own opinion based on security culture, seeking to change your name here. While transparency is admirable, it is not always safe or smart (I'm not implying you are not smart!! Please don't think that!!). Please accept my condolences on the loss of loved ones to covid. Wikipedia will still be here so take as much time as you need, there's no rush. You can also go to my talk page, there is a button on the left side menu to email me if you find that easier :) Indigenous girl (talk) 22:06, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
Copy of caution from SPI
editHi DanCoutu. The following is a copy of what I said at SPI. I hope you keep it in mind.
[You and Historynerd224] clearly share a point of view that's positive toward the same small entity. Even an appearance of tag-team editing can be detrimental to the encyclopedia, so please be careful to not do anything that could be construed that way.

- I have never had more than one Wikipedia account and I don’t hide behind aliases. I rather question the sincerity of those that do, but I suppose that arises out of decades of experience. DanCoutu (talk) 21:23, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
- (Corrected copy-paste error from the corresponding post. Sorry!)Well, I don't hide behind an alias either.
:)
Still, what I said is true regardless of whether you have any familiarity with the other account. It's important that Wikipedia not feel like a battleground. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 21:27, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Tamzin, thanks for the note and the correction. I had assumed that was your intention. Once I’m seeking out doc resources on how to use Wikipedia editing correctly. I’ll get there, it’s just slow because of other things in my life that take priority.
