editWelcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Fcexclusive", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it appears to represent a company (see http://fcexclusive.com/about-us/) , rather than an individual, see WP:CORPNAME. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:47, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
I used the name FCexclusive as that is a company I own and I use this for a lot of sign up/sign in usernames. I rarely use my birth name however if it helps then I can change my username to Daniel Thompson. The account I set up is only used by one user which is myself and is not used by the company FC Exclusive or any employees or directors other than myself. I added the National News link to Port Vale FC external sources section as the page has *club news (port vale) *local news *the sentinel and no national news providing all news sources throughout the UK. I feel this would be of benefit to the users of Wikipedia for all football teams on your website.
Kind Regards,
Daniel Thompson
- Hi Daniel, to do this just follow the instructions in the orange box below this line. Black Kite (talk) 11:48, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

editIf you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Black Kite (talk) 14:54, 9 February 2018 (UTC)- I'm sorry, we already have one. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 16:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
Ok can I have the username DanielThompson27?
- Hang on, let me fix your request ... Black Kite (talk) 19:28, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, what happens now? Can I log in with username danielthompson27 and same password?
- Not yet. You'll have to wait until someone with the ability to change your username happens across this request (us mere administrators can't do that). They'll post here when they do so. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 20:15, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Globally renamed 'Fcexclusive' to 'DanielThompson27'. Just Chilling (talk) 21:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for your help Black Kite. What are your thoughts on me editing the football clubs external links with a national news link for that club?
- If it was just one club then I think that would be fine, but attaching it to multiple club's pages would probably be seen as spamming. WP:ELNO is a useful resource here. Black Kite (talk) 20:30, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- WP:ELNO #7 specifically states that links to aggregator sites shouldn't be added. Nthep (talk) 20:32, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nthep, the link i was going to provide gives anyone interested much more information than just national news. It provides the Port Vale videos, fan engagement (rate the players) and stadium (vale park) information, including directions to the ground. The BBC News link in the same section links to recent results and upcoming fixtures. This is similar in providing anyone interested in Port Vale FC an external link
with good information about the club.
- Sorry I meant ELNO #9 but the sentiment remains the same. On the same basis nether the BBC nor the Sentinel should be linked there either. Nthep (talk) 21:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Daniel, your username has been changed and you are now unblocked. Please take note of the comments above though. Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 21:55, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Black Kite. @Nthep so shall I remove the external links section from the Port Vale FC page then? I still think users will benefit from seeing the links as they come to wikipedia for as much information about the source they are searching. It may even help students to find more information. Up to you though.
- The PortVale FC page has link to their official website, that is all that is required. Theroadislong (talk) 22:16, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Is everyone ok for me to remove the external links section from the Port Vale FC page then? There seems to be an external links section on the majority of football teams linking to various websites. If we remove the external links from Port Vale FC then maybe its only fair to remove the external links from the rest of the football clubs on wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DanielThompson27 (talk • contribs) 22:27, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- You have presumably not read the answer above. The external links section on Port Vale F.C. includes a link to the club's website, which is acceptable. Please take the trouble to read about external links. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:55, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- @David Biddulph, I have read the answer above and also checked the Port Vale FC page after reading it. If you check the Port Vale FC page yourself you will see a link to the official website is at the bottom of the key information box that includes the badge on the top right hand corner of the page. With this being here, there is no need for an external section with links at the bottom. Would you agree?
- Also if you read the external links section you mentioned and see WP:ELNO #10 then view Exeter City FC wiki page you will see an external link that is linking to a forum based website. I am just outlining that there are things that have slipped through the net if we are adhering to the strict guidelines of wikipedia external links.
- Daniel, I offered up my interpretation of ELNO and if it were left to me I'd remove all the BBC, local paper links. However editors active with Wikipedia:WikiProject Football may have a different perspective and you might want to discuss this at that project's talk page. Nthep (talk) 12:22, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- From WP:ELPOINTS: "Instead, include appropriate external links in an "External links" section at the end of the article, and in the appropriate location within an infobox, if applicable"; it says "and", not "or". And you are right that things may have slipped through the net elsewhere. And please remember to sign your messages, per WP:SIGNATURE. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:05, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- Your help desk question got a response, but I think it refers to the discussion above.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 19:48, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
