editDiscussion on formating state politician pages
edit- Yes, welcome to Wikipedia and hopefully to the Oregon project. Great job getting the Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson article started. Please note, I have now twice removed the bolding to the website part. Please read the Wikipedia Manual of Style for why we do not bold that, and other style/formatting items. Basically, boldface is reserved for the article title, redirects, and that is about it, see this for more detail on boldface and emphasis. Basically, bolding would translate to something the reader should have their attention drawn to, and we are not the ones to decide which website readers should be directed to over other websites by using boldface. Happy editing. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:45, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback Aboutmovies! I saw it on a few other pages, and tried to mimic on the pages I started. I'll read through the style guidelines and try to follow them better. Danielbachhuber (talk) 22:46, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- No big deal, I just didn't want it to keep going back and forth. Next time you see it elsewhere, feel free to remove the bolding from the articles. I came across it on another Oregon politician's article and removed it, along with most of the external links. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:17, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Quick question: is there a list of best practices or a community guideline for creating/formatting state politician articles? Thanks! Danielbachhuber (talk) 21:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Not that I am aware of, but there is for biographies in general: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies). Also, if you look through the Featured Articles (these are the best articles) and look at some biographies, you may find a state legislator. From personal experience, I worked Thomas H. Tongue into a Good Article, and he was a state politician in addition to US Rep. Aboutmovies (talk) 23:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
