Bolding of initialisms and acronyms

Hi, I saw you recently reverted an edit on National Highways. I would like to clarify that I made that edit in line with MOS:BOLDSYN, which states that significant initialisms and acronyms should be bolded as they are synonymous with the title. National Highways also appears in the disambiguation page for NH under the section "Other uses". However, as I am not an expert in the topic, I do not know if NH is a significant enough initialism to include in the lede. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you! s :) Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 21:12, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

@Me, Myself, and I are Here, my reading of BOLDSYN is that abbreviations can be considered alternative names, but per the section above alternative names should only be bolded if they usually redirect to the article. (The example given there does) Although, fully understand your edit.
However, NH on that article is new, an editor added multiple to the lead (initialisms for the old names). I had disputed at talk, but compromised for having just NH, rather than NH, HE and HA. Although I rarely see any of them being used at all, considering how short it is. DankJae 22:44, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
I do know that having a redirect is not a strict requirement, but for abbreviations it seems more important for them rather than multiple spellings for example. DankJae 22:46, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification! Indeed, the redirect rule might be an issue when multiple entities are commonly known by the same abbreviation; my interpretation is that in this case, they are similar to equally prominent alternative definitions of a word and thus fall under major synonyms.
As NH is not commonly used, I would support its removal, though I respect the current consensus. I will look into it further. Thanks again for replying :) Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 23:37, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
