Images in infobox
editHi, re this edit - thanks for the image, but I've had to fix it up a bit. The thing is, using the "thumb" option on an image puts an extra frame around it, which we don't do within infoboxes (they already have an outer frame). The {{Infobox UK station}}
template has several parameters for images: these do include |image=
, but the ones most commonly used are |image_name=
and |caption=
, and I have amended the article to use these, see here. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:40, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
Talkpage request for image
editHi, me again: re this - partly right. Removal of the {{reqphoto|transport|in=Cheshire|of=the entrance of the station or a station sign}}
was valid, because it didn't form part of a discussion (see WP:TPO), but there is another thing that would normally have been done too. At the top of the page you will see two lines beginning {{WikiProject Cheshire}}
and {{TrainsWikiProject}}
- these are WikiProject banners, and they often contain a marker denoting that an image is required. In this case, the first one doesn't; but the second does, it is the parameter |imageneeded=yes
- the presence of that parameter means that the page is in Category:Rail transport articles needing images. To deactivate this, you can either alter it to |imageneeded=no
; remove the word "yes"; or remove it entirely, as here. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:55, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hiya.
- Thank you so much for your help, correcting my errors, and just for being around. I'm pleased there is a Wikipedia Jedi keeping an eye on the newbies like myself. I discovered during the early hours of Friday morning that a handful of my images had been used here, and the buzz this gave me was so intense that I wanted more. I ran out with my camera today and took pictures for a page that needed them, and uploaded and edited without reading any of the copious amounts of instructions, guides and FAQs that I should have been reading.
- I hereby solemnly swear to read the instructions and learn what I'm doing before the next edit I make. Honest. :-)
- Once again, thanks for keeping an eye out and cleaning up after me (and no doubt others). You're a superstar. Now, let's see if I can manage the four tilda trick.

More assistance
editHi, re this edit - templates need the pipe character - | - between the template name and the first parameter, as well as between each parameter; so try {{nutshell|Part time amateur photographer, full time nerd}}
. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:37, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
- My hero. Thank you. Dannymol (talk) 17:57, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Turning categories into links
editHi, as you probably noticed before making this edit, putting a category name between two pairs of square brackets doesn't create a link, but places the page into that category. If you do wish to make a regular link to a category, there are two ways of doing this. One is to use the {{cl}}
template without the word "Category:" - that is, {{cl|Wikipedia requested images}}
produces Category:Wikipedia requested images. The other way is to use the normal double square bracket syntax, but insert a colon before the word "Category:" as well as after it - that is, [[:Category:Wikipedia requested images]]
produces Category:Wikipedia requested images. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:26, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- Am feeling the love. Thank you. I have been making my way through the tutorials, and playing around in my sandbox, but pesky paid employment keeps getting in the way and interrupting me. I'll get there. Dannymol (talk) 13:30, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I got made redundant at end of June 2009, and my edit rate went through the roof. Keep practising; it pays off in the end! --Redrose64 (talk) 14:29, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
