DarknessHorses1989, Check out WP:ADOPT. Interstellarity (talk) 19:04, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Adopted or not, you are still invited to ask questions at the Teahouse. You mentor may not be available 24/7 but there's nearly always someone answering questions at the Teahouse. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 19:23, 12 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Adoption

edit

Hello DarknessHorses1989, and welcome to Wikipedia. It can be a bit of a struggle for brand new users to understand how to edit here, though you've managed impressively well so far, in that you've successfully posted at the Teahouse, Adopt-a-User, and were able to tell me on my userpage that another editor was pinging me - all in the space of your first forty minutes here. So you sound like you know a bit about what you're doing already, which is great. Perhaps you've tried editing here before - maybe as a non-logged in user?

If you got around to checking out my details at Adopt-a-User (see here), you'll find that I'm not available right now to take on another adoptee. That's simply because I'm too busy in real life to be able to respond in sufficient detail and depth to fulfil their the needs, and that would be unfair on them. In addition, I have stated that I generally don't take on brand new users like yourself. That's because The Teahouse and our other help forums can do a far, far better job of giving you almost immediate advice and guidance with any question, whereas one individual adopter/mentor might not be able to respond to answer simple the same questions for many hours or even days at a time. So whilst I help out a lot of brand new editors at the Teahouse, I view adopting or mentoring an editor as a different sort of long-term commitment, and one I look to see some experience and commitment exhibited in past editing.

OK, so having got that out of the way, lets see if I can at least offer you the same sort of help as I might give at the Teahouse, shall we? Then I suggest if you're unclear on anything, you can follow up there, rather than seeking personal contact with one particular editor. How does that sound?

When you made this post at the Teahouse, you asked for help in editing articles - especially "grammer and expanding articles. clean-up also." You also declared you are currently suffering from a mental health issue, and that's quite OK. So long as you take as much care as anyone else to only improve an article, and not damage it, you'll be just fine. It can be upsetting if someone undoes one of your edits, especially if they leave a short or perhaps even seemingly rude comment when they do so. This happens a lot, and it can seem like a personal attack, but it really shouldn't be interpreted as such. Just ask the editor for an explanation, if you're not sure.

It's clear you already know how to edit talk pages, so making improvements to articles is almost identical. What about that do you not understand, or need further guidance on? We have a 'clean up' project aimed at improvnig articles - see Wikipedia:Cleanup. If you want to expand an article, all your additions must be based upon Reliable Sources. See WP:REFBEGIN for how to add citations to sources, or User:Nick Moyes/Easier Referencing for Beginners for my own guidance page.

What I suggest I do is keep an eye on all your next edits and I'll get back in touch if I see a problem. Do WP:BEBOLD and do your best to improve this encyclopaedia. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 01:56, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
