Hello, let's discuss this article! Das.Rauschen (talk) 21:37, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

TODO: Add Sputnik logo and some historical info. Das.Rauschen (talk) 21:00, 14 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Elena Kustova (talk) Yes, it works. I have added a link to my personal page although it is in Russian:) Please look if it works. I will delete the link after. Elena Kustova (talk) 22:40, 14 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for starting this, Martin, it looks very nice! Elena, your link works to get to your personal page, that's a good idea. Definitely we should add the Sputnik logo, I think I have a version somewhere. Board of Honor will be difficult, we've never settled on a great tracking of that or even clear rules, so that is a topic I'd like to request the next IAC Chair work on. I don't have much historical info, but we could list a few of the eminent Plenary lecturers. Ingrid wysong (talk) 01:44, 16 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
The main reason I did not put the Sputnik logo on yet, is that I wanted to clarify that there is no copyright on it. I cannot imagine that there is, but perhaps you have a version that you created yourself, otherwise I can do it with very little effort. I do have a list of all the plenary speakers. There is enough space in the table listing the previous conferences. Do you know of secondary sources about the Symposium? Das.Rauschen (talk) 21:52, 16 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have added a few words about the Board of Honour and introduced some minor modifications. We should think where and how to say about eminent scientists contributed to the RGD, like C.Cercignani, M.Kogan, Phil Muntz, G.Bird and others. Elena Kustova (talk) 16:38, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi everybody, this is Nico from Bari. I looked a bit at other conferences pages here on wikipedia and I think there is some room to talk physics in a Overview and/or Topics section. I would like to introduce the Boltzmann equation and DSMC since they both have a wiki page. also, we can mention the kind of application RGD is aimed at: vacuum, MEMs, aerospace, granular, etc. If you agree, I would like to try and write a draft.--Fisherking70 (talk) 16:49, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have added a discussion of the rationale behind the conference, that is the Boltzmann equation, in the "Origin" section. It contains references to the Physics Today article of 1958, where the account of the first symposium is published, to the book by Cercignani (Springer, 2000) where most of this material is discussed in the Introduction (maybe I should add the page range in the reference) and to some other pages here on Wikipedia (e.g. MEMs, DSMC, etc.). As for the "Topics" section, I understand they don't like lists, but my idea is to talk about application areas that are of interest to the conference. Therefore the section should be enlarged to clarify what are the real world applications and their link to the Boltzmann equation. For each topic, there is someone among us that can provide the right textbook as an introductory reference.Fisherking70 (talk) 16:22, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Some advice

edit

Hi, I've edited the article and deleted quite a bit of fluff. Please note that WP is not a web host nor a social networking site. As it was, the article risked being deleted as spam. What is still missing are references to reliable sources that are independent of the symposium or its organisers. This is necessary to show that the article meets our inclusion criteria}. Regarding the list of previous meetings, see here. Regarding the listing of committee members, see Wp:NOTADIRECTORY. For the use of flag icons, see WP:MOSFLAG. Hope this helps. --Randykitty (talk) 16:59, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Randykitty, thanks for taking the time to look at this and for pointing to the relevant Wikipedia rules. --Das.Rauschen (talk) 20:06, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
