Preston nickname
editWP:V requires that "all material must be attributable to reliable, published sources". Paul Agnew's book, which includes pieces written by Tom Finney himself, is unquestionably reliable. It has twice been given as a source for the "Old Invincibles" nickname of the 1888–89 team and one of the references is a passage that Finney wrote. I know myself from my early days as a Preston supporter that the double-winning team was referred to as EITHER "Old Invincibles" OR "Invincibles" but on here it would be WP:OR if I were to assert that without a source. Equally, you cannot claim that the alternate nickname did not exist when a reliable source says it did.
As for the club's nickname, that is "The Lilywhites". Arsenal are known as "The Gunners". If you believe that the Preston club is also called "The Invincibles" then logically that applies to Arsenal too so I suggest you consult one of the Arsenal contributors or WT:FOOTY and ask them to change the nickname section of the Arsenal infobox. I think you will find that they refuse to do so because their "Invincibles" were their TEAM in 2003–04 only. All other Arsenal teams are called "The Gunners" just as all Preston teams are called "The Lilywhites". Do not confuse the club as a whole with a single team that represented the club.
Although I'm still learning the site's policies and procedures, I believe removal of reliably sourced information is frowned upon so I would advise you not to do it again. If you can provide a source that refutes Finney and Agnew then it is a different matter but, without that, their version of the nickname is valid. Izzat Kutebar (talk) 18:33, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
