Tony Terran

edit

I appologize. I'm new to content publishing on Wikipedia. There was a recent article about my dad that would support the information I put in his article. I think this could be considered a legitimate reference. I will add it to his article. I look forward to your feedback. Thanks.

Dave

Let me be blunt: you are not a reference; that is, personal testimony means nothing, and neither does "look him yourself up on Google". See guidelines on reliable sources, citations, and orginal research, not to mention the general biography guidelines here and WP:MUSIC. --Calton | Talk 23:53, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just added another reference (a published book) with the page number that mentions Tony Terran. This is the most reliable and verifiable source available on the wrecking crew. Tony and Hal did many recording sessions together in the 60s and 70s.--Daveterran 00:01, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dave, I have cleaned up the article a bit, you might care to wikilink to the other famous artists, films and TV shows. I don't suppose your dad everworked with Charles Fambrough or Henry Fambrough? Rich Farmbrough, 19:25 14 January 2007 (GMT).

It's a pleasure. Henry was (is?) in The Spinners, Charles a jazz bassist, solo, and with Wynton Marsalis among others. I have never met either of them, and don't know if they're related. Rich Farmbrough, 23:56 14 January 2007 (GMT).
Thanks for making the enquiries. No, I am not a musician, although I like to sing. Rich Farmbrough, 21:16 15 January 2007 (GMT).

License tagging for Image:Tony Terran Playing Trumpet for Cow in Idaho.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tony Terran Playing Trumpet for Cow in Idaho.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:10, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Tony Terran Playing Trumpet for Cow in Idaho.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Tony Terran Playing Trumpet for Cow in Idaho.jpg, which you've sourced to the Terran family. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 05:26, 7 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. I am adding my dad's recording credits based on royalty payment statements from distribution funds such as AFM & SAG-AFTRA Distribution Fund, which I get as a beneficiary of my dad's recordings. There are other online resources such as All Music, Discogs, my dad's website, etc. that cooberate that my dad played on these recordings. Recording credits are quite incomplete on Wikipedia pages, and I'm just trying to make it more accurate! Daveterran (talk) 18:10, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
The first thing is that Wikipedia is not supposed to contain every possible fact. Instead, Wikipedia is designed to be a summary of published knowledge.
Your dad's royalty payments are not considered a reliable source on Wikipedia—they haven't been published. See WP:Reliable sources.
The discogs website can be changed by anyone logging in, so it is considered unreliable on Wikipedia. See WP:USERG and WP:ALBUMAVOID.
I have seen your dad's name in a few AllMusic credit lists, but many of your contributions are not supported that way.
Your dad's website is not considered reliable. See WP:SPS.
What you need to focus on are published accounts of your father's contributions and collaborations. Binksternet (talk) 19:50, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is Allmusic considered reliable for recording credits? I see they're listed in yellow at RSP. Tony's credits are here [1]. GA-RT-22 (talk) 21:09, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I can see why AllMusic is not so reliable for biographical details. Your link to Terran's credits include the album Music Box by the Monkees, but surfing to the AllMusic credits for Music Box shows no trumpet and no Terran,[2] so clearly this is not a well-managed database. One would have to go to other sources for Terran on Music Box, for instance albumlinernotes.com which says Terran played on two unremarkable songs on that album.[3] (I don't know whether albumlinernotes would be considered reliable. It's self-published, so that's not good.) Binksternet (talk) 22:57, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Tony Terran. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Binksternet (talk) 05:25, 27 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Why are you erasing facts that I had on my dad's Wikipedia page? What is your rational for doing it? I don't appreciate your power tripping when you have absolutely no credibility on the subject matter of this content! If you think the information is not accurate, then prove it. It is all 100% correct and I can back it up with royalty statements that prove all of Tony Terran's recordings listed. Daveterran (talk) 05:46, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Stay off of my user talk page. Binksternet (talk) 04:00, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Daveterran, I happened to notice this dispute in passing. The fact is that those royalty statements are WP:PRIMARYSOURCEs, and using them would indeed constitute WP:Original research. I realize this may be frustrating, but there are reasons that Wikipedia requires secondary sources in almost all cases. As a result, a lot of stuff simply can't be in articles, and that's by design. Sorry.
Let me give some advice that I'm pretty sure you're going to find unwelcome, but I'm gonna offer it anyway: stop editing your dad's article. When people get involved in articles about their friends, their families, their companies, or anything else they're really close to, it almost always ends in tears. Read Wikipedia:Autobiography; everything it says there applies in this case. EEng 04:54, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
