Merging Mike Duncan and Revolutions

Hi David, I just found Mike's Revolutions. I like it so much and admire his presentation enough that I think it should stand by itself and his bio stand as another entry. If they are merged, I'm afraid that Revs would overwhelm his bio page. True, he as such a short bio that it hardly seems worth doing, but I would have Revs stand by itself. No idea how to make this comment on the page where you asked the question. Thanks.Chipnoon (talk) 14:43, 25 April 2020 (UTC)Chip Noon

Requesting Peer Review at Hyborian War before FA nomination

Hi, I saw you listed as a mentor for FAC with interest in video games and expertise in images. I'd like to nominate the play-by-mail game Hyborian War for Featured Article, but am wondering if I have enough images, although images are challenging in this genre and this game and I'm in uncharted waters.

Would also be happy for a general peer review prior to a FA nomination if agreeable. It's a GA now, but I took an article through the FA wringer once about ten years ago and as I recall it was very different than a GA nom. Thanks for your time. Airborne84 (talk) 03:54, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Please disregard. I went ahead and listed it. I realized that Gog the Mild, another one of the FAC mentors, did the GA review. Thanks. Airborne84 (talk) 03:47, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Puberty page

Hello I don’t know if this is the right thing to do or not. But I been trying to get in contact with someone. On the puberty page here, they have pictures of the tanner stage which is wrong to do because the public sees this stuff, I think it is against the law to have this picture on that website but I am not sure because these pictures are old for medical purposes. But if we could take it down. That would be great or if you could get in touch with someone, that would be great. Thank you have a nice day. And I don’t know who posted those pictures Adam Peter 1994 (talk) 15:45, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Happy Adminship Anniversary!

Talk page is closed?

I don't understand the blanking nor your edit summary.[1] Seems like evidence of continued problems during Arbitration is rather important. Given, Behavior during a case may also be considered by the committee in arriving at a final decision., where's the location to submit such evidence? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:28, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

@Hipal: The talk page for the proposed decision is closed until the decision is posted. The evidence phase of the arbitration case has closed. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 17:31, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
So my question remains: Where is the location to identify Behavior during a case...? You'll note that the diffs I provided were made during or after the Evidence phase. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
I can't figure out the answer to my question, but at least I've figured out why you removed the material from the Proposed decision talk page. Sorry about adding material there.
As far as I can tell, the Workshop talk page should not have been closed, so it could be used for behavior concerns. Perhaps the Evidence talk page for behavior during the evidence phase? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 21:08, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
The talk pages for respective phases of arbitration cases are closed in sync with the phases of an arbitration case. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 21:29, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Who can answer my question then? Behavior during the evidence and workship phases should be documented where? --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 21:46, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
They should be documented on evidence and workshop pages when those are open. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:02, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Phish GA

Hi David, I've made a few additional edits to the Phish page w/r/t to the GA review. I plan to do some additional work later on this week with reference formatting and some kind of legacy/influence section, but would you know of any place I should try in order to ask other editors to help out with the page? I've mostly been working at it alone for the past couple years, and I don't have a whole ton of time at the moment to go through things expediently. Doc StrangeMailboxLogbook 04:16, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

@Doc Strange: If you're looking for sources I might hit up a relevant wikiproject, e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Music. Note that for GA criteria you don't need coverage to be exhaustive nor prose to be Shakespeare, it just needs to be better than the current article. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 15:18, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
@David Fuchs: Thanks! I'll go ask at one of those. Doc StrangeMailboxLogbook 04:43, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

GOCE June newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC.

Current events

Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests.

Drive and blitz reports

March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020.

Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist.

Request for undeletion

David:

In March, you nominated my Wikipedia article for deletion. In April, you were successful. Since then, I have received two grants from national arts organizations. Though the grants have not been mentioned in the press, I can provide you proof via email. Will you please consider reviewing them to restore my Wikipedia article?

The article Star Trek Generations you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Star Trek Generations for comments about the article. Well done! "Aggregating" evidence

David, thanks for the explanation here;[2] so it seems that both you and Bradv are on board that the referred links should have been incorporated. I'm sorry that my misunderstanding about this has created such a kerfuffle-- I was hoping to spare you all my ten-for-one typo corrections on the case pages.

Here is a list of all of the referred pages; I don't believe Colin's pages or the FA data are subject to deletion per POLEMIC, and Bradv already substituted in three of mine, so that leaves only the one page that is of concern to Tryptofish, and three others that could become a concern for other editors.

If you all (including Maxim) are in agreement, here is my proposal for how to move those in to the case pages:

First, I have added a collapsed top and bottom to each of those four pages, using my exact words from the arbcase pages, so the entire pages can be moved in where they were originally used in place of the sentence where I originally referred the links. So the entire contents of the referred pages can be moved in as follows:
  1. In the section, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Medicine/Evidence#Intersecting contribs Ozzie and Doc James, the sentence "Analysis of a small portion of James–Ozzie intersecting contribs is at User:SandyGeorgia/Editor interaction" is replaced with the contents of User:SandyGeorgia/Editor interaction
  2. In the section Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Medicine/Evidence#Case study: Dyslexia, James exempts Ozzie GA from MEDRS, the sentence "See the full description and diffs of a troubling situation here." is replaced with the contents of User:SandyGeorgia/Dyslexia GA diffs
  3. In the section Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Medicine/Evidence#Elitism and cultural changes at WPMED, the sentence "See User:SandyGeorgia/WPMED editcountitis" is replaced with the contents of User:SandyGeorgia/WPMED editcountitis
  4. On the Workshop page, in the section Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Medicine/Workshop#Response to Tryptofish, the sentence " I have made a complete list of diffs with timestamps here to explain the issues as I experienced them" is replaced with the contents of User:SandyGeorgia/Response to Trypto diffs.
Tryptofish indicated on my talk that this portion should go to the Evidence page instead, but I believe it important to change as little original wording as possible, and leave it where I originally put it. Otherwise, the subsequent statements about why I had to put it on Workshop instead of Evidence (an 11th-hour response) are rendered senseless for future readers, and the less changed the better.
If another faulty link (that is mentioned in the final decision) can also be corrected, it would be:
  1. In the section Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Medicine/Evidence#CFCF casts aspersions and refuses to provide diffs, replace the sentence "See my evidence regarding Colin at Elitism and cultural changes at WPMED" with See my evidence regarding Colin at WP:MED History
Please let me know if this might work, and also, if you prefer that I do the work with your permission, or if you would rather have a clerk to do it.
Separately, I know I have been harsh in saying the remedies were not broad enough to address the issues that have developed over the last five years at WPMED, but although it is still early, there are already very encouraging signs that WPMED is restoring focus on article improvement on Wikipedia, so let's hope that time will prove me wrong and that "less is more" works. I recognize that I gave you a lot to read, and appreciate that you did ... Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I will take a look at try and get to it early tomorrow UTC. I've got spotty internet access due to a move right now so my Wikipedia doings besides answering emails have been a tad slow; hopefully I'm back up and running by the end of this week. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 16:26, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
No hurry, Bst, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:27, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
With thanks to Sandy, I want to confirm that her proposed solutions are fine with me. As I've said earlier, the only part of it that I, personally, care about is the part that concerns me, which is item 4 in the numbered list just above. I've looked carefully at the intended target on the workshop page, and that seems reasonable to me, because it does not interrupt the flow of anything said by other editors. Although I had said earlier that I thought maybe it needed to be on the evidence page instead, I think putting it there on the workshop page, followed by page deletion, satisfies my needs. Thanks again to everyone. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks !! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:31, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

And once again, thanks to everyone! I'm outta here. --Tryptofish (talk) 16:11, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Star Trek IV - Rotten Tomatoes & CinemaScore data

Every Star Trek film prior to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home includes present-day review aggregation data from Rotten Tomatoes, as well as past critic references. Many popular classic films on the site, even those released before Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic's respective launches, follow the same method. I don't see the pointlessness in their inclusion. Additionally, CinemaScore was launched in 1978.

Appeal of blacklisted site for smashinginterviews.com

Hello David,

My media outlet, Smashing Interviews Magazine (smashinginterviews.com), was banned for spamming a decade ago and remains so. We were victims of ongoing hacking, which may have led to this situation. Our website is a notable media outlet and is highly cited and featured by worldwide mainstream media. This is a source of major embarassment to us; therefore, I am reaching out to you in the hopes we can have this matter reviewed and resolved.

Thank you,

Hello 108.85.35.185 (talk · contribs), if you're interested in the process of removing a domain from the whitelist, I would recommend going to the reliable source noticeboard and demonstrating how smashing interviews.com qualifies as a high-quality reliable source, and from there asking for an exception at MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist. Your comment at ANI

This is in relation to this ANI thread and your comment in it. It seems that the thread has been archived and untouched for a week and a half, without anything being resolved. Would it be appropriate for me to open an arbitration request? Gumshoe2 (talk) 11:14, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

@Gumshoe2: If the problem is still ongoing and other dispute resolution processes have produced no results, then yes. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:24, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
There has been no activity on WP:AN, apart from Gumshoe2's interventions. From 27 August until today, Gumshoe2 has not edited wikipedia. In comparison I have made two hundred edits, almost all mathematical, and related to conformal mappings, Teichmüller theory, univalent mappings and Koebe's uniformization theorems. [I have made quite a number of edits in that area since 2010, e.g. Littlewood subordination theorem, Carathéodory's kernel theorem, Carathéodory's theorem (conformal mapping), Koebe quarter theorem, Douady–Earle extension, and so on.] Currently I am preparing material on Bergman-Schiffer kernels, He-Schramm's circle domains, etc. Also there will be material on Schottky groups and Hausdorff dimension (I gave a graduate course on Patterson-Sullivan theory in autumn 2014). If Gumshoe2 is not currently contributing main space edits to wikipedia, I do not understand his concern. Mathsci (talk) 11:01, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
@David Fuchs: The issue is not ongoing in the sense that Mathsci has not been part of any talk page discussions whatsoever since August 26 (one exception, in addition to his above comment). (The basic issue, as I saw it, was about disruptive editing when challenged on talk pages.) For my part, this is intentional since I am trying to avoid discussions with him, despite still feeling that some of the pages in question need significant edits, in addition to some other pages he has edited. I would appreciate your advice Gumshoe2 (talk) 05:03, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Since editing in July 2006, I have been asked to give expert advice on von Neumann algebras and C*-algebras. The untimely death this month of Vaughan Jones has shocked me: most recently in 2012 and 2014 I was one of the main contributors to conferences at Vanderbilt University run by him. My real life family alerted me to Vaughan's passing; slightly prior to that, Dietmar Bisch from Vanderbilt (UserDbis29) provided official notification. (Vaughan did once send me an IP message on wikipedia a long time back, but so far I have been unable to trace it.)
I have my personal copies of the books of Isaak Moiseevich Milin and Helmut Grunsky and am very slowly editing topics on uniformization theorem, planar Riemann surface, Neumann-Poincaré operator, singular integral operators of convolution type, Grunsky matrix, Beltrami equation and singular integral operators on closed curves. I recently added content about de Branges' theorem from Hayman's book on multivalent functions. Meanwhile, with my post-stroke condition, doctors and nurses are trying to work out why I still have recurrent syncope and weak anaemia. On wikipedia Gumshoe2 has made relatively few main space edits to mathematics apart from BLPs. The topics seem completely disjoint from mine (in this case geometric function theory and quasiconformal mapping à la Ahlfors-Bers). Mathsci (talk) 21:32, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
I can comment on this if needed. It is in part inaccurate, but as far as I can understand it is all irrelevant. Gumshoe2 (talk) 22:43, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
If you have no expertise in the area, it seems inappropriate for you to comment. Mathsci (talk) 07:58, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

This is to let you know that the Master Chief (Halo) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 15, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments, it's at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 15, 2020. Guild of Copy Editors September 2020 Newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2020 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2020.

                 Current and upcoming events

September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today!

Election reminder: our end-of-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 December. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

Drive and Blitz reports

June Blitz: An uncorrected typo (even copy editors make copy editing mistakes!) led to an eight-day "leap blitz" from 14 to 21 June, focusing on requests and articles tagged in May. 19 participating editors claimed 54 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

July Drive: Over 750,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event, keeping pace with the previous three self-isolated drives. Of the 38 people who signed up, 30 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

August Blitz: From 16 to 22 August, we copy edited articles tagged in June and July 2020 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 37 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Baffle gab1978, Tdslk, Twofingered Typist, and first-time coordinator Puddleglum2.0. Reidgreg took a break after serving for a couple years. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Progress report: As of 01:33, 18 September 2020 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors had processed 532 requests since 1 January and there were 38 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Puddleglum2.0, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist.

Luna Park photo

Hi, thanks for the correction in the Luna Park, Arlington article. I discovered that the photo in question is actually of Luna Park in Pittsburgh rather than Philadelphia. The version of the photo that I had posted to the Arlington article had been uploaded to Commons by someone who relied on inaccurate info from the source (which was a secondary source). Cheers, Moreau1 (talk) 02:37, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

No problem, Moreau1. I've found the same photo in published books (from the 70s and 80s no less) so it seems like a pretty common error. One of these days I need to see if the Arlington County library actually has proper photos of the park in their archives. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 16:09, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Pre-FAC advice

Hi David, I was wondering if you'd be able to take a quick look over the article Cefnllys Castle. I've recently rewritten it from a stub and my hope is to submit it to FAC soon. I've requested a peer review and Dudley Miles has been kind enough to provide some feedback there, but would appreciate any thoughts/input you may have, particularly as I haven't been through the FAC process before. All the best, Jr8825Talk 21:38, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Hey Jr8825, I'll take a look this weekend and leave comments on the peer review page. If I don't respond, harass me. Got a lot of balls juggling in the wiki world :) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:22, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your quickly reply and agreeing to help. I look forward to hearing your thoughts soon. Cheers, Jr8825Talk 00:32, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
@David Fuchs: just a friendly ping to remind you of this, per your request! Please don't feel under any obligation though, especially if you're busy with other things. Best, Jr8825Talk 16:45, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Just so you're aware, I've moved the article to FAC, as I'd received a decent amount of feedback from other folk. If you happen to pass by FAC, it'd always be nice have your input, but please don't worry about it. :) Jr8825Talk 23:47, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Imaginestigers -- Imaginestigers (talk) 01:01, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I have to deal with some personal things for a few days, so I will be mostly unavailable on Thursday 15 October and Saturday 17 October. I will be able to respond to any changes on Friday 16 October. Sunday is anyone's guess. I'll resume near-full availability on Monday 19 October. Sorry if this is an inconvenience! Imaginestigers (talk) 02:49, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

Jeannie Seely

Hello David! I received the notification that you failed Jeannie Seely's article at the present time. First I will say, that I appreciate your critique. I have never had an administrator review one of my GA nominations before. Much of your feedback seems fair and valid. Secondly, your suggestion is that the article needs to be re-written. Are you suggesting that the entire article should be started over from scratch? Or can I simply tweak the specific sections you commented on? I was confused about that in your review. It took me nearly a month to gather the references and information needed for this article so I am rather concerned about doing a complete overhaul. ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 19:21, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

@ChrisTofu11961: I'd start with working on reducing the article by being more judicious with primary sources and quotes. By "rewrite" I don't mean every word needs to be changed but that it has problems that are pervasive throughout rather than being confined to a single section. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 14:55, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Would you be interested in reviewing it again once I make the necessary changes? ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 16:40, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
{{ping|ChrisTofu11961} I think it'd be better if someone else reviewed it, that way you get two sets of eyes and perspectives on the article rather than just my own. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 13:33, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry to approach you in an unorthodox manner about sockpuppetry, but the situation doesn't fit the usual sockpuppet investigation opening "form". There have been allegations of sockpuppetry involving participants at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Iman Farzin. Featured Article Creation

Hi there, David.

I'm really interested in working towards FAC for League of Legends. It was my second GA, back in October, and I really think it’s a significantly better article than it once was (here is the article prior to my starting on it). I was speaking on the Discord earlier, and someone mentioned to me that — although very useful — PR is often just a starting point, and that it can be helpful to get someone with experience to assist in preparing for FAC, and understanding what's good practice. I'm very familiar with the FA criteria at this stage. So far, my CV is pretty limited. I started editing in the last few days of August, and have managed to promote League of Legends, the Odyssey, and Riot Games to GA. I've conducted six GARs, and participated in 2 FA reviews. Recently, I overhauled The Turn of the Screw and it’s up for GA right now.

Is a mentorship/apprenticeship the sort of thing you'd be interested in? I saw you listed under the FA mentors, and recognised your name — my first GAR was BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea — and saw your video game specialty, and thought it might be a good idea to reach out! Looking forward to hearing from you, regardless of whether or not you can assist. Best wishes! — ImaginesTigers (talk) 23:54, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi again! Thanks so much for all of your feedback. I've implemented almost all of your changes (with a few questions lingering). Do you think the Gameplay section is more structurally sound now? Additionally, I'm really unversed on images, so I don't know how to write (or even edit) the fair use rationale—the image of gameplay was uploaded by another user.
