Your GA nomination of BioShock 2

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article BioShock 2 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Etriusus -- Etriusus (talk) 01:41, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Thank you today for Power Mac G4 Cube, introduced: "In the late 90s, Apple Computer was on the brink of bankruptcy, until they brought back old cofounder Steve Jobs. Jobs relentlessly pruned Apple's product line and brought the company back to prosperity. But in between the saga of hits like the iMac and the iPod... there was the Power Mac G4 Cube, a commercial failure so sudden that the product was discontinued barely a year later, and remained arguably one of Jobs' greatest missteps in his time back at Apple."! - Happy New Year! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:35, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of BioShock 2

The article BioShock 2 you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:BioShock 2 for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. FA review on Jabba the Hut

I have nominated Jabba the Hut for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. --George Ho (talk) 20:04, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Question about page you deleted

Hello,

I noticed you deleted the Lovitt Records page which I was going to go in and update/edit. Was wondering why and how to get it back up? Hoping this is the right way to discuss?

Brian

Chicxulub crater

@David Fuchs: Greetings! I saw that it was you who got Chicxulub crater to FA. The nomination is more than a decade old; do you mind if you quickly skimmed through the article and cut out unnecessary fluff that has been added throughout the years? That would be appreciated - Wretchskull (talk) 09:56, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

@Wretchskull: Hey. By all means take a look at it. It's on my list for improvement as part of the ongoing FA sweeps but I'm mostly working oldest FAs to newest so I'm not going to get to Chicxulub crater until I've done a few before it. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 15:01, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
@David Fuchs: I understand. Unfortunately, someone has coincidentally started a FAR today. I hope you have time to address it; best of luck - Wretchskull (talk) 23:24, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
I've already done substantial clean-up and additions from the recent literature, it's in much better shape than when I started. The FAR can be found at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Chicxulub crater/archive1. Many thanks. Hemiauchenia (talk) 04:48, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
David I was just coming here to check if you had been notified, as the FAR is out of process. Do you want it put on hold, or do you want the FAR to continue? Please let the page know, probably with a ping to Nikkimaria. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:10, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

FA mentor

Hey! Saw you on the FAC mentor list, and you mentioned "film". I'm planning to make the article To Fly! a FAC; it had recently been listed as GA. I'm firm that it has passed the criteria for neutral, stable, policy, you know the usual guidelines... but I'm not sure especially on 1a; this was the one which mainly made my past two FACs fail, and I was wondering if you could help me review the article on this (and per the other criteria if possible) to make sure at least the prose is ready for FAC. Thanks! GeraldWL 17:02, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

@Gerald Waldo Luis: I'd be happy to take a look this weekend. Bug me if I don't follow up. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 17:01, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Peer review request

Hello, I have listed the article for the video game Fallout for peer review. The purpose is to collect feedback for the article before a potential featured article candidacy. So far, there hasn't been much feedback; only one person has left feedback on the review back on March 2, 2022. Considering you are listed on the featured article mentors list, I was wondering if you could be able to take a look at the article and leave your feedback on the peer review. I would much appreciate it. Lazman321 (talk) 01:17, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

I'll try and take a look this weekend. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 18:38, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
@David Fuchs: The weekend has passed. Are you still planning on taking a look at the article and providing feedback. Lazman321 (talk) 16:59, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
It has been three weeks now since you promised to look at the article. I pinged you last week on the peer review, and I pinged you today. Please respond. Lazman321 (talk) 03:35, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
The article is currently nominated for becoming a featured article. However, it has run for nearly five weeks with only one general support and mostly drive-by reviews. It has also been a week since there has been any review. If the review does not garner even a slight consensus, it will be archived. Would you please like to review it? Lazman321 (talk) 18:11, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

Lego Batman 2 FAC

Hey, David Fuchs!

Recently, I nominated Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for GA and it passed. The next step for this article is getting it to FA, to which I am requesting you mentor this article to the nomination process.

Do you think you could fulfill this request? elijahpepe@wikipedia 05:36, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Brushed metal (interface)

The article Brushed metal (interface) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minimal assertion of importance; looking for significant coverage per WP:GNG mostly turns up blog-style coverage or glancing mentions instead.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

List of Halo characters?

Recently you deleted an entire section in the article "List of Halo characters > Characters in the TV/Silver Timeline canon" or whatever the section was called. Yeah, the show was only 1 season so far and I guess there is the main page for the show, but with at least a second season set to start filming, and plans for the show to have multiple seasons, I guess it's a matter of "let's see how long the show runs until it's notable enough to add this section"? At least a token description of the new alternative timeline characters would fit, since their characterizations isn't expanded upon the main show page, or waiting until the show gains more seasons to do so? Duyneuzaenasagae (talk) 03:20, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Duyneuzaenasagae Alerts (0)

@Duyneuzaenasagae: The characters and their relevance are covered in the TV show article itself, and outside of mentioning who plays them in the Silver Timeline show I don't see what relevance there is to covering them in the list of characters—any out-of-unvierse content, reception, etc. especially now is just going to be in the context of the show. I haven't seen any evidence any of them have broken out into wider discussion. Maybe it would be relevant in the future, but it's not now, and the Halo characters list already is massively bloated and filled with unreferenced plot regurgitation that it really doesn't need more of it. The Rolling Stones pre-FAC peer review opened

Hello David Fuchs! I see that you are listed at Wikipedia:Mentoring for FAC. Would you be able to take a look at The Rolling Stones by any chance and provide feedback at Wikipedia:Peer review/The Rolling Stones/archive2? I see that you specialize in source and image reviews, would you be willing to take a look at those by any chance? I have some (read: done a couple) experience with FAC and am hoping to take that article through FAC following another GOCE copyedit and would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that would make the process easier. Thank you for your time, regardless! TheSandDoctor Talk 17:06, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

request for administrative review

I've written a potentially-contentious article. It's fully sourced to reliable sources, and I've brought it in line with every other possible guideline, policy, and other site consensuses I can think of. However, at its core, the case concerns child sexual abuse and child pornography.

The case and everything involved is well and thoroughly cited, but the names and circumstances of both the victim (of their own volition) and their perpetrator were also widely published. Also, articles on this subject have apparently been deleted in the past (CSD & AFD), though I obviously cannot know their contents or context. I've been here long enough to remember the (probably appropriate) on-site panic about such topics and those who edit them (and the formation of WP:PAW), and I do not want to be the subject of similar.

As an administrator, would you be willing to take a look at the article and provide feedback on (a) its propriety, (b) any possible push-back, (c) any edits that need to be made, and (d) how it compares to the already deleted pages for likelihood of retention. Thanks for all your help and time. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 19:27, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I'd be happy to look, although I think it's a bit out of my wheelhouse. You might get better feedback from one of the deleting administrators; either way without knowing the topic I can't know what the issue with the contents was. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 12:27, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks so much! I've put the draft up in my userspace, here. I'm just concerned about (a) overall propriety and potential for editorial/administrative drama blowback (e.g. this ANI discussion), (b) whether it overlaps problematically with whatever was deleted from Kylie Freeman and/or Kenneth John Freeman, and (c) any suggestions you might have. I'm happy to keep watching here, but could the discussion can take place at the draft's talk page, so that we can include it if the article itself is moved into articlespace? Thanks again. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 13:33, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
I've taken a look at the deleted article and the sticking point there seems that it was a BLPCRIME situation and structured like a criminal biography. I think your draft successfully avoids that. (Since I don't have OS privileges any more I can't see the earliest versions, where presumably there were more prurient tells to the editor's interest—there wasn't anything in the administrator-public revisions.) If something comes up you can ping me and I can opine. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 14:39, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate the review. Does the draft look suitable to take live, do you think? — Fourthords | =Λ= | 14:48, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
I think so. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 16:01, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate the support! I'm gonna take it live momentarily. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 16:38, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

Chicxulub crater scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Chicxulub crater article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 6, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 6, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:36, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Protection of Luke Smith (writer)

Hi David, I saw that you protected this page in 2010 for BLP concerns; I was wondering if you think that the protection is still warranted, and if not, would be willing to remove it. Thank you in advance, Sennecaster (Chat) 21:54, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey Sennecaster I've unprotected. Was an oversight on my part not to set a time for it to lapse given that there was no reason to think the issues would be indefinite. Cheers! Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:15, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm actually wondering if there was no option to set defined times for protection back then; most articles I send to RFPP or ask to be unprotected were protected indefinitely in 2010 or earlier and there wasn't any timed ones showing up until later. It was 12 years ago anyways, so it's only weirdos like me who like to patrol Special:ProtectedPages that find these gems. Sennecaster (Chat) 22:39, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
I think there was? But yeah, it was ages ago, who knows. I've definitely pulled really old semiprot off some articles in my day, some of them my own handiwork. That was one I evidently missed. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 22:40, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

The GOCE December 2022 newsletter, as sent on 9 December, contains an erroneous start date for our December Blitz. The Blitz will start on 11 December rather than on 17 December, as stated in the newsletter. I'm sorry for the mistake and for disrupting your talk page; thanks for your understanding. Your GA nomination of IMac G3

The article IMac G3 you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:IMac G3 for comments about the article, and Talk:IMac G3/GA1 for the nomination.
