License tagging for Image:Downtown Binghamton at Night.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Downtown Binghamton at Night.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:05, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Binghamton photos needed
editHi Dcamin -- I've edited an article about Binghamton's National Historic Landmark: the New York State Inebriate Asylum. It's an odd landmark, and it may be run down and abandoned, but it deserves a recent picture. I added pics recently for Utica State Hospital perhaps a similar site. Any chance you could help? And, check out the Wikipedia:WikiProject Syracuse, New York wikiproject, perhaps you could join and participate. I would be happy for it to cover as far south as you like. Cheers, doncram (talk) 02:05, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, i got your message. I just checked out nysAsylum.com, which is clearly a commercial site. From what I've heard about other wikipedians contacting commercial photographers who seek to make a living from selling their work, i expect there is approximately zero chance it would release any of its photos into the public domain. So any photos you could take, whether of mug shot quality or worse, would be the best option. It would be great if you could take and post a picture or two, as I and others are working to get the List of National Historic Landmarks in New York up to "Featured List" status, and we need a pic there.... Thanks for contacting me. Sincerely, doncram (talk) 15:09, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Binghamton-seal.png
editThanks for uploading Image:Binghamton-seal.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

American Civic Association
editIf the ACA in Binghamton is truly an unrelated organization, then that might be the subject of a separate article with a disambiguated name (for example American Civic Association (Binghamton). And if you're correct on that score, then the current ACA article should have all information on the Binghamton shooting removed, and the link in the shooting article should be commensurately changed to a red link (meaning it does not have an article) by piping it to the disambiguated name (for example [[American Civic Association (Binghamton)|American Civic Association]], which results in American Civic Association. But the existing article at American Civic Association is by far the primary topic for the name American Civic Association and cannot be changed to talk about the Binghamton organization. On the issue of whether the ACA in Binghamton is unrelated, I am not saying you are wrong but it sounds dubious to me.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:49, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- I left you a note too. Ships in the night indeed - I got an edit conflict when posting on your page! I made all the appropriate updates and created a new binghamton-specific ACA article. You are right this org should keep the top-level name.
Orphaned non-free image File:Binghamton-seal.png
editThanks for uploading File:Binghamton-seal.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 07:12, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Notification of automated file description generation
editYour upload of File:Binghamton Blues On The Bridge.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! - Another one of your uploads, File:Binghamton JulyFest 2005.jpg, has also had some information automatically added. If you get a moment, please review the bot's contributions there as well. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 13:31, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:12, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

The article Lourdes Hospital (Kerala) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unreferenced. Claims not substantiated of oldest. No indication of notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Alexf(talk) 10:22, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
2019 US Banknote Contest
editUS Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
