You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Dan Garrett (actor). This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. Flagging Dan Garrett (actor) for further review

Hello, Ddjgarrett … I recently encountered the article about Dan Garrett (actor) and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging Dan Garrett (actor) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I have created this initial entry on your Talk page because you are either the original author of the article, or else a recent contributor to it; I will leave more detailed information regarding my specific concerns about the article on its Discussion page … please respond either there or on this Talk page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation.

Notability of Dan Garrett (actor)

Hi Dan,

The reason I have requested that your article be deleted is that it seems to me to clearly fail the test for notability of creative professionals. See Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers: the relevant quote is:"Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television, stage performances, and other productions." Please don't take this as a personal insult; it was not meant as such. In fact, a Wikipedia article can be a serious liability if you don't have legions of fans who will monitor the article for vandalism!

You seem to be a uniquely qualified person with much to offer the project, so I hope we can convince you to contribute more edits on a variety of topics, like this one, and not simply see Wikipedia as a vehicle for self-promotion.

I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Question about BUD/S training in article Chris Kyle

I have a question about your Chris Kyle page -- (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Kyle) -- The article states that: "However, as he was leaving, the U.S. Navy recruiter called him over and talked about the Navy SEALs. Kyle was interested and signed up, but he did not pass the physical test, because of the pins in his arm. A little while later he received a call and he had the chance to go to BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL school), finally joining the United States Navy in 1999."

How did he just get a call to attend BUD/S without ever having joined the Navy or even have passed the physical for entrance in to the Navy? I know there are pre BUD/S style training programs that young guys can take to see if they have what it takes to be a Navy SEAL but this part of your article doesn't make sense to me and I served in the USMC.

Is there any way that you could provide clarification on this section?

Thanks for your message! I wrote the original article, and last editted that article on January 6, 2012 to this version. From the articles edit record the Anon IP 98.232.43.40 added that text on April 16th. If you are not happy that the reference supports the text, then either tag it or remove it. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
