Deletion of TeamTO
editDear Deb,
I'm user TeamTO 2012. I noticed you deleted the TeamTO page. TeamTO is the company I work for and its page is not an advertising. Our aim is to inform people that our studio exists and what we've made since 8 years. We've already got a page on the french wikipedia. To build this page, I took Xilam page (which is the same kind of french company) as an example. All information was referenced according to both internal information from the company website and external information from other websites. Please let me know which sections aren't relevant or highlight the sentences you believe require rewording and those who you believe require additional references. Thanks ! Also, I've planned to edit new pages about our TV shows, so what should I do to be sure that they will be allowed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TeamTO 2012 (talk • contribs) 09:22, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of Cenex
editDear user,
I am user Andrei.Varban and I noticed you have deleted the Cenex page. All information was referenced according to both internal information from the company website and external information from other websites. Please highlight the sentences you believe require rewording and those who you believe require additional references. If not additional external references (links) exists this doesn't mean the information is not accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrei.varban (talk • contribs) 11:56, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately references from the company website are not considered independent, and there were no others. Deb (talk) 11:58, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
How could I add information about the company and its projects if other independent sources have not talked about it? How much can I use from the company's website? Finally, could you provide me the deleted page code via email at andrei.varban@cenex.co.uk so I can redo the work in the sandbox and try to find independent articles mentioning the projects? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrei.varban (talk • contribs) 12:06, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
"How could I add information about the company and its projects if other independent sources have not talked about it" ...sums it up. If they haven't, you can't. Ciao! Basket Feudalist 12:10, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
Ok I will look for third party sources. Could I please have the wiki code back as I didn't save my work and would like to have the structure Please email it to andrei.varban@cenex.co.uk and I will include sections for which I can also have independent references? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrei.varban (talk • contribs) 12:17, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Debate
editIn your deletion comments, you claim: "CSD:G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: no refs except a spammy link"
- I note that you totally failed to abide by the condition that "improvement or deletion of an offending section, if practical, is preferable to deletion of an entire page".
- You could have, in this case, removed the alleged "spammy link" but you instead opted to delete the page.
- I have read and understood "Reasons for deletion":
1. Content that meets at least one of the criteria for speedy deletion As you glaim, G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion
"Pages that are exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic. Note: An article about a company or a product which describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion. "Promotion" does not necessarily mean commercial promotion: anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organisation, a point of view, etc."
So my intention with writing the page was to "describe the subject from a neutral point of view". Apart from poor style, I think my article did indeed do that and I simple linked to the two currently most popular community hubs / repositories for 3d printed objects.
2. Copyright violations and other material violating Wikipedia's non-free content criteria n/a
3. Vandalism, including inflammatory redirects, pages that exist only to disparage their subject, patent nonsense, or gibberish n/a
4. Advertising or other spam without relevant content (but not an article about an advertising-related subject) According to G11, you think the page was unmbiguous advertising? Who was I supposed to be advertising for exactly?
5. Content forks (unless a merger or redirect is appropriate) n/a
6. Articles that cannot possibly be attributed to reliable sources, including neologisms, original theories and conclusions, and articles that are themselves hoaxes (but not articles describing notable hoaxes) n/a
7. Articles for which thorough attempts to find reliable sources to verify them have failed The page was deleted so quickly we did not even have the chance to look and find more sources!
8. Articles whose subjects fail to meet the relevant notability guideline (WP:N, WP:BIO, WP:MUSIC, WP:CORP and so forth) n/a
9. Articles that breach Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons n/a
10. Redundant or otherwise useless templates n/a
11. Categories representing overcategorization n/a
12. Files that are unused, obsolete, or violate the Non-free policy n/a
13. Any other use of the article, template, project, or user namespace that is contrary to the established separate policy for that namespace. I believe I got the naming / capitalisation right?
14. Any other content not suitable for an encyclopedia 3D copyshops are real places just like 2D copyshops (photocopying shops) are real places. The technology is just newer.
Desired Outcome / Resolution
edit- With great power comes great responsibility young wiki editor. Please refrain from using the delete button before the edit button.
- You appear to delete first and have other people ask questions later and in this case, your actions killed the collaborative process which was meant to create a great page. I suggest you open a dialogue with users in the future in accordance with your own communities guidelines.
- I would like you to restore the deleted page immediately and please don't simply delete it again without discussing it first. Samthetechie (talk) 7:47, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of List of Major Appliances
editWhy on earth did you delete my page? I had just created it less than an hour previously and am still writing/editing it. Nyth83 (talk) 13:57, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Now I see you changed the title of the article. I was in the middle of editin and my page dissapeard on me and I lost a bunch of edits. Very frustrating. Could you please check with my before you make a change like this? The name you changed it to is not appropriate as there are many gas burning ranges in the list and there are also a few wood and coal burning ranges also. Nyth83 (talk) 14:41, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- You called it "List of Major Appliances". That would mean "Iron", "Cooker", "Television" and so on. Please give it a bit of thought. Deb (talk) 14:44, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- The article title included the word 'major' to specifically exclude small appliances. I inserted a reference to the article Major appliance in the summary intro. I also moved the article to remove the word 'electric' from the title. Nyth83 (talk) 15:13, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, but it didn't include the word "manufacturers", which is what you actually wanted to list! Deb (talk) 15:15, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- I left 'manufacturers' in for now even though the list includes both the brand names and the names of the manufacturers. Most consumers, I do not believe, make a distinction between the brand and the manufacturer. It is even more confusing because of parts sharing. For example, I recently service a Kenmore refrigerator that had an LG water valve in it. If you have a suggestion about how to title the article to clarify this I will gladly move the article again. Nyth83 (talk) 15:55, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- No, it's fine, it's just you are missing the point about the difference between an appliance and a brand/manufacturer. Deb (talk) 19:25, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Line and Space Article
editHi Deb, I disagree with your speedy deletion of this page, I don't believe it was advertising. Line and Space is a prominent architecture firm that has been designing buildings for over 30 years and sources from books and notable magazine articles were used clearly supporting statements in the article. Thier buildings are often used as precedence studies for college students and I thought it would be helpful to have an article on Wikipedia. I hope you can help un-delete the article or let me know what led you to think it was advertising so I can edit the page. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emstarace (talk • contribs) 22:41, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi Deb, I've looked over the articles that you have referred me to and still feel that article that I wrote is relevant. There are many articles on Wikipedia about architecture firms and architects that are in the same tone as mine that lack citations, and those pages were not deleted, I think they were left posted to give other contributors a chance to improve them. I don't understand why this article about Line and Space is not afforded the same opportunity. If you can be more specific about which statements you feel are advertising or lack NPOV I can edit them or add more specific citations. Thanks Emstarace —Preceding undated comment added 18:19, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Disagree with your deletion
editHi Deb, I created the Perry Noble entry, not as a means for promotion, but rather to start a page that had never existed for a prominent person. The article was written from a neutral point of view, highlighting a few notable events in the person's life. I also did my best to cite sources. What specific changes would you suggest in order to create the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonhortonsc (talk • contribs) 17:22, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello Deb,
It seems as many pages have been deleted by you, some maybe deserving of your decision, but I was reading a page yesterday about pbolist and today it is gone with indication that you had flagged it for deletion. The article seemed to be written from a neutral stand point and did have crappy sources, but I have also worked with pbolist and know that it is a credible company operating out of florida, maybe you could post some revision suggestions instead of simply flagging pages.

Deletion of Vicidial Page
editHi Deb,
Vicidial is an opensource project and the page was just a start to get the community to start to contribute. I don't understand why it was taken down. The are pages for microsoft office, Ubuntu linux, ect. all kinds of software. Please put the page back or explain the difference? I understand why you would think it is advertising, but it's an opensource porject. I never once say it's the "best" or "grandest" or left my own opinion. referencing ect will follow as soon as the community approve. So before I reference the article and fix the technical aspects that got it removed - what about the content was "offensive"? - I've followed the process on this and decided to give it a try myself, here is my version of the Vicidial page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DomeDan/sandbox I'm (as Rudolf) a user of the software and have no interest in advertising it, been reading the guides and have tried to write it by the guidelines, but notability was a bit hard, found at least one third-party source but the rest is mostly companies describing vicidial because they commercially offer the service of installing it and I don't want to use that as references. DomeDan (talk) 14:55, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

- I'm not sure if I understand what's going on. I was discussing reasons why I didn't feel that the page I created should be deleted and provided an example. In doing so, I hoped I could get feedback on what would be more appropriate information so the page isn't deleted, but it just seems like you're very smug about deleting pages. Gareth's comment was useless as well, as CubeSmart was just an example not a page that I created. My foot is unharmed. Regardless, I am not trying to pull a fast one or trying to be slick by any means, just trying to put my company's facts and history online. So let me try this again. Deletion of Jim Munroe, Magician page
editDeb, I created the initial Jim Munroe, Magician page due to the fact that I search for "Jim Munroe" and only found a page for Jim Munroe, the Canadian author. The basic page I created was for the purpose of providing clarification on the other Jim Munroe. This is not an attempt at advertising but an honest attempt by a fellow, al beit novice, wikipedia member to expand the information presented on wikipedia. Please restore the deleted page. Jimdmurphy (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:30, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Deb, when you reverted the changes that I made to the Jim Munroe, author page, you left a comment "even if there was an article on him, it wouldn't be at this title", but did not give this novice contributor a suggestion on the proper title. I am assuming that "Jim Munroe (magician)" is the appropriate title. Correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimdmurphy (talk • contribs) 14:00, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Parvin Mirzazade
editDear Sir/Madam,
I am working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and created a page for H.E. Parvin Mirzazade, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Unfortunately it has been deleted. Please instruct me, how to restore or create the same page without having any problems.
Here's the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parvin_Mirzazade
Deletion of Online Journal of Communication and Media Technologies
editHi Deb, Today you deleted an entry I did for the above mentioned journal and mentioned "advertising" and "soapbox." In no way was I "advertising" anything with my entry about a FREE online access journal to which I am not affiliated. I am a graduate student at the University of Houston-Downtown in the Master of Science in Professional Writing and Technical Communication program and this was an assignment for my class. Please explain to me what you feel I was "advertising" and what "soapbox" you feel I was on. Msjameecox (talk) 17:24, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Msjameecox
Deletion of ecoPayz
editI fail to see how the page i created could be altered to make it so that it doesn't appear as advertising.
This isn't advertising as I am not asking people to perform any sort of action. This is purely an informational piece. I fail to understand how you can write an article detailing the information of a company, product, term without giving all the relevant information.
This is an article describing the company. Many other pages give information on companies. Indeed on of our competitors Neteller also has a page on Wikipedia which is very similar to the one i wrote.

DELETED Liam Hanrahan Page, could you point out any advertising or such from that page, otherwise it needs re-instating, no links or anything were put on it, Tom Sefton
Could you not just take out the #teamhanrahan bit? sounds a bit drastic taking the whole page out, just saying!!
Congratulations

Notion Press
editHi Deb, I don't realize how the page Notion Press came under speedy deletion category. It was clearly not written in advertisement style. It has notability. Conitnious Deletion of Azilen Technologies
editDear Deb,
I have earlier created the Azilen Technologies's article and you deleted that, I agree with you as it was in a promotional manner.
But, This time I wanted to explain in detail about the significance of this company as well as i was sure that it was going to be newsworthy for users. I request you to please mention a proper reason that which thing in it leads to the deletion(a speedy deletion). It will be a great help.
Hi Deb, I saw you deleted the article on Booklikes. Because it offers "no explanation of significance (real person/animal/organization/web content/organized event)". I beg to differ and if you have a look at the statistics Alexa.com has on BookLikes you can see that it is a fast growing website ranked #19,513 in the US. An article on it can be found the Huffington Post.
Gittav (talk) 14:53, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
__________
Hello Deb,
yes, I was curious about this deletion as well. FWIW, the links that Gitta mentions are only some of a large number of newspaper articles on BookLikes. The site has also received coverage in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and on Microsoft's Technet Blog, as well as on Techcrunch and numerous blogs. This is clearly one of the up-and-coming sites of the World Wide Web, and it has a legitimate place on Wikipedia IMHO. I was actually extremely surprised to find that it didn't have a Wikipedia entry before today. (For the record, I'm a BookLikes user, but have no ties whatsoever to its owner(s) -- I just happen to be one of a growing number of people who like the site's features.) Your deletion of this Wiki entry, and the reasons given by you, explain why there is no entry yet -- but like Gitta, I would ask that this decision be revisited and the Wiki be restored. Thank you in advance!
Themis-Athena (talk) 16:21, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
YES, BUT THE POINT IS YOU HAVE TO REFER TO THESE SOURCES IN THE ARTICLE!!!!! They also need to come under the Wikipedia definition of reliable sources. Deb (talk) 17:19, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of page created by Graham Berrisford
editHi Deb
You tell me you have deleted a page I created - I guess Avancier Methods? Why? It is open, it exists in the public domain, it is used by people without payment of fee. I inserted merely a descriptive paragraph. Please can you reinstate it?

Avancier Methods
editBut Deb - it was/is not promotional! It was/is purely descriptive of a free information resource anybody can find in the public domain. How could it possibly be used to advertise or promote? I can't think how. You can't find it in Wikipedia unless you already know the name "Avancier Methods" If you Google on that, you'll find the resource directly, not via Wikipedia.

User notification re Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
editHi Deb. I am notifying you as an editor who has participated in a previous discussion about a closely related topic (at Talk:Edward IV_ of England#Unexplained removal of content), and also as an experienced editor with expertise in the field of royalty and history. We have multiple reliable sources for the descent of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge from Edward IV. However, Virgosky has added sourced information which appears to contradict the finding (a typographical error according to Patrick Cracroft-Brennan) and repeatedly removes a sourced retraction of the same information which I subsequently added. The consequent edit warring is futile and harmful to Wikipedia. I would appreciate your help building consensus on the talk page in order to resolve the dispute, and/or any advice you can provide in this regard. HelenOnline 10:34, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
