editHi Deepon,
Welcome to WikiProject India. Thanks for joining our WikiProject community! You are not really new to the WikiProject and we are glad you joined up. :) I'm a volunteer for the WikiProject and the first guy to approach if you need help! :)
Do consider joining the WikiProject India Mailing List (https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-in-en) which provides communication for the community.
For other lists which may be of interest to you, see http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Mailing_Lists.
You may also like to add WP:INB to your watchlist.
Be sure to update yourself at Geographical distribution of Indian Wikipedians in case not done already. (You'll need to create a user id for editing it).
Deepon, talk to me! Your major edits so far are this article but it STILL needs improvements. Off the cuff, I can mention two :
- Copyvio. This needs to be done by you.
- Detailed referencing.
What's your plan for all this? AshLin (talk) 12:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi AshLin, sorry for the late reply, yes I know I need to work on the article. I can assure you that there are no copyvios at all. I need to & will enhance the article...:)Thanks & regards,--Deepon (talk) 18:51, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Deepon. I have your talk page in my watchlist as you were one of the Campus Ambassadors for the India Education Project and thought I'd help out here. I've removed one section as it was pretty much a verbatim copy from the glossary pages at http://www.semi1source.com and hadn't been credited at all in your article. I couldn't at first sight find any other instances of copy-paste or close paraphrasing, but you need to check the reminder of the article very closely to make sure you haven't done this elsewhere, possibly from other sources. I formatted the one source you listed (Schuegraf, K. F.; King, C. C.; and Hu, C. (1993)) and removed a Wikipedia article which you had listed as a second source. Wikipedia can't reference itself. I'm not sure of the degree to which you have actually used the Schuegraf source, but if you have used other sources as well, you need to list them and add inline citations. You also need inline citations for any information coming from Schuegraf. Let me know if you have any further questions. I'll leave some advice below on how to avoid copyright problems. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 13:28, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Voceditenore, Thanks for those details. Yes, I know I need to work on that article, but I can assure you that there are no copyvios whatsoever. All the informations are from my own knowledge I gained during my masters on VLSI (even the pictures are drawn by me), I know I need to work on the references and I will. I checked the link you provided (http://www.semi1source.com) and couldn't find that amount of similarities to invoke a copyvio. If I have missed something, please let me know, in the mean time I'll reformate my article. Thanks for formatting the reference, looking forward for your help...:) Thanks & regards,--Deepon (talk) 18:51, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry Deepon but a significant portion of the Conclusion section replicated virtually word for word that source. Observe these sample searches on the key word strings [1], [2]. Editors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. I'm going to revert you again. Please do not re-add this section until it is entirely in your own words. Note that leaving a few words out or changing one or two words is not sufficient. Please read the links in the guidance I've given you below. Voceditenore (talk) 19:06, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Voceditnore, yes there is no doubt a significant amount of similarity. I don't know how this can happen, as I wrote it entirely myself. Perhaps, the author of that website wrote those lines after reading the same book like I did. Anyway, I have changed the words, you can check on it. Thanks again for pointing it out. Deepon (talk) 03:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Avoiding copyright problems
edit- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source if public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest
editHello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

editWelcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page National Institute of Technology, Agartala do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. On top of making three external links, you also linked to the user space, and made an edit which was very obviously promotional. Please don't repeat that. Muhandes (talk) 20:46, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, the external link refers to the Annual Tech-Fest by National Institute of Technology, Agartala. That external link is not to the website of any third organization and hence does not fail WP:ELNO #19 as mentioned by Nearly Headless Nick in the talk page. I will leave this matter to experienced editors like you to decide further. Thanks, Deepon (talk) 18:30, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- Just so it is clear, the above note was about external link you added to the article body, which the guideline forbids. It is totally unrelated to the subject of external links in the "External links" section which is now going on. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 11:53, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
April 2012
editPlease do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to National Institute of Technology, Agartala. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Please stop promoting yourself. Please also read the guideline about external links and WP:CREDENTIAL. Muhandes (talk) 05:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing it out Muhandes, I have posted my reply on your (talk) page under the section NIT Agartala. --Deepon (talk) 18:24, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi Deepon. I've done some formatting of your recent changes/additions to make them conform to the Manual of Style. It's a bit better now, but I think it's still probably a long way from "B" class. As this is a very technical subject, I encourage you to ask someone from WikiProject Electronics to assess it for you. They may be able to give you tips on how to improve the content. Normally, editors do not assess their own articles beyond "stub" or "start" class. It's considered good form to ask an independent editor to assess it for anything higher than that. Voceditenore (talk) 15:31, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help Voceditenore. I saw the members list, but honestly speaking most of them are undergrads in electronics. The scope of this article is far beyond Bachelor's Degree. I have a masters degree in the VLSI Design & even I sometime feel that I know nothing of MOSFET. I searched for PhD stuents on the list but none of them are working on device modelling so that they'll be able to help me out on this. If you personally know someone who can help me out on this to assess my article, do let me know. I will also try to reach out to some other scholars regarding the same. Thanks, Deepon (talk) 23:45, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Tag
editDo not additional information tag in a very newly created article which might be similar to WP:BITE when you can guess the newly created article is under construction and it can be expected more information will be added soon, as you have done in Parno Mitra article. The two asked information DOB and POB were already added. Though I agree the article needs some more additional information before we can call it a start class article! --Tito Dutta ✉ 15:46, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Tito Dutta! first of all tagging a newly created article helps in attracting other editors to contribute to that very article. It falls under New pages patrol. Secondly, I don't know how you are comparing it with WP:BITE, perhaps my tagging was too soon, but I haven't reverted/commented on any of your edits so far. Of course you are going to improve the article. Please avoid jumping the gun, I meant no harm, so Assume good faith. Keep editing.. Deepon (talk) 16:25, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Stubtag is better here, which serves the same purpose which you have mentioned. You can try it.
- A very good number articles lack basic important information. So, the tag is applicable in many articles. But stubtag is better. There are some scripts by which you can tag stub easily.
- I don't know how you saw this page unpatrolled, since my articles get autopatrolled. And I think you found the page's link in Mumtaz Sorcar
- The article is under construction. I guess this article (because of the model's popularity) will attract some vandalizing IPs too. I don't think I'll be able to collect a non-free image of this actress. Let's see! --Tito Dutta ✉ 16:46, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Karate logo.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Karate logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Sfan00 IMG, I have mailed Dennis Jones for an email mentioning the official permission for the logo (if he can provide one), I hope he will reply back soon. --Deepon (talk) 23:12, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Mumtaz Sorcar!
editPlease give more details on the source of the image. You have written "Mumtaz Sorcar herself". What does it mean? --Tito Dutta (talk) 10:20, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, Tito Dutta, it means that when I approached her for a photograph, she mailed me a pic from her personal photoshoot, copyright free. --Deepon (talk) 10:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have two questions, first one is: how did you approach her, do you know her personally? (this is just personal curiosity)! The second question (might be the harder one) follow! Please add a talkback in my talk page! --Tito Dutta (talk) 10:57, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

A favor
editHello Deepon--
Can you do Wikipedia a favor and hop on your bike/in your car and run on over to Golpark to take a decent picture of the Swami Vivekananda statue? The photo we have, in Swami Vivekananda statue (Golpark, Kolkata), is really bad. Thanks! (PS: I'm quite serious. It's up at DYK, and if you take a good quality shot we might could run it with a photo, in which case you'll also become famous.) Drmies (talk) 21:47, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Drmies,
- I agree, didn't notice it earlier, otherwise I'd have changed it. But currently I have shifted to Bangalore, I'll ask one of my wiki friends there to take a snap. Thanks for pointing it out. (If the image is not updated within 1/2 weeks, I'll update it myself when I go back in October).--Deepon (talk) 05:46, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
