This from Wikipedia:- "In measurement: Gage is a variant spelling of the word gauge"

Maybe you'd want to swap that around as it's obviously wrong as well. As according to you "gauge" is the incorrect spelling of "gage". While you're at it, perhaps you should write to every railway company in the world and tell them that their rails are measured in gages and not gauges. Have fun with that :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.192.224.56 (talk) 14:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Welcoming templates

Not a biggie by any stretch, but just to let you know that I'm not a big friend of welcoming messages. Clever people, the kind we want around, will find their way into WP without them. Other people shouldn't be helped in. I don't usually remove those messages, this was just an impulse. But handing out WP:BEANS is a uniquely bad idea, no matter how well-intentioned. --87.79.229.232 (talk) 11:22, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • there are several responses to welcoming templates on my talk page that are quite favorable -- I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was speaking on behalf of anyone else but myself. Like I said, I'm not a big friend of welcoming messages.
There is also a very clear cross-project consensus in favor of welcoming templates -- Again sorry if my comment evoked the impression that I claimed project-wide consensus was against welcoming messages. I personally believe it is very clear from my words above that it wasn't my intention. Let me note though that responding with an appeal to authority when someone just voices their own dissenting opinion comes across as a tad defensive, in my humble opinion.
I pride myself on maintaining a very high welcome to warning template ratio -- Do you also pride yourself on your personally-formulated message to template ratio? I would, but I personally regard "pride" as kind of a strong word for something like that.
you will note that we are an egalitarian sort of place -- Some argue we are too egalitarian. Catering to a wide audience is of course great. And it's also great that, in principle, anyone can edit. But not everybody should be editing Wikipedia. As a great mind once wrote on the en.wp mailing list (I may be paraphrasing), even mediocre writers are usually brilliant readers. --87.79.229.232 (talk) 15:55, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Username Doug on the Italian Wikipedia

I'm the other Doug, the user from the Italian Wikipedia. You have my permission to take over my username. You can check my user talk page for confirmation. Write a message there if you need to contact me. I'm glad to help. Good luck! --79.16.247.5 (talk) 19:15, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you can go to this page and follow the instructions to post your usurpation request. I or another burocrat will then contact the current it.wiki Doug and ask him what new username he would like to have. Ciao, Ary29 (talk) 06:29, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Simple question

what happened to my user name DOuG - see entries for Norwood Green?? will I ever see your reply? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.5.38 (talk) 03:39, 13 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea what you mean. The account User:DOuG appears to exist, I don't have anything to do with that account. I also don't understand "will I ever see your reply?" as I have never heard from you before, nor was I even aware of the unrelated, though similarly named, account DOuG. If you have forgotten your password but have e-mail enabled and still have the e-mail account, you can request a new password. Otherwise, I suggest you get a new account because there is generally no way to recover lost passwords unless you have e-mail enabled. Sorry.--Doug.(talk contribs) 18:11, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Translation of Stronghold Kingdoms article to other language wikipedia's

Thanks Doug, for opening up my talk page. I've been looking into having the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stronghold_Kingdoms translated and added to the other language wikipedia but having read all the links I still find it confusing. I could supply translations probably in many languages but not sure if this is allowed. Any help or advice on what to do/not to do would be greatly appreciated.VoltairSHK (talk) 16:25, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Have you seen this discussion

とある白い猫, Have you noticed: Wikipedia talk:Signatures#Signatures that don't contain the exact username? I mentioned you there. Some users believe everyone needs to have a latin or latin-derived signature.--Doug.(talk contribs) 11:03, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Follow-up, it has expanded to Wikipedia_talk:Username_policy#RFC:_Use_of_non-latin_or_unicode_characters_as_usernames, a much broader and ridiculous proposal to simply prohibit non-latin usernames!--Doug.(talk contribs) 08:27, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Seriously? We are going to ban all unicode? This has been discussed before as I vividly remember username policy explicitly banning non-unicode before SUL. Anyways I will post something later today. I am simply too baffled by the weirdness of the proposal! :-D Thanks for letting me know. -- とある白い猫 chi? 19:41, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Bit stuck.

Hi Doug, please excuse the crappy formatting, 2am here, woke up after a nightmare and saw an update to a thread on my talk page. Could you review this users actions and determine the appropriate action to take, as they have failed to listen to my comments and as I'm not an administrator what I say holds little weight. I'd provide more links but it's a bit hard on my iPhone. Thanks Doug. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 16:10, 21 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
